Pros:

Completely cleared my skin, best acne treatment I have ever used.

Cons:

Bleaches towels but you are warned about this in advance and advised to use white towels

I have chronic moderate to severe hormonal adult acne. On the oral contraceptive pill I found I had completely clear skin but I wanted to come off the pill after 10 years of using it (I'm 36yrs). A couple of months after I stoped the pill my acne was back with a vengance. I've been using 50mg of Spiro daily and that has helped somewhat. I started using ProActiv two weeks ago an dhave had NO NEW BREAKOUTS SINCE. I am amazed how effective it has been, it is the best acne product I have ever used, my skin has never looked better. There was initial irritation/flaking/peeling but stick with it, the skin that is revealed after peeling is dewy and glowing and I feel that I look about 10 yrs younger.

Pros:

Completely heals existing acne
Prevents new acne from forming

Cons:

Drying
Leaves skin looking a little dull

This treatment, in combination with acne.org's other products and DK's Regimen, completely eradicated the acne I struggled with for almost 18 years. Nothing else worked. I have now been acne-free for months. The flakiness subsided on its own after about 6 or 8 weeks, but I started using the AHA+ and my skin is glowing. My skin actually looks better without make-up on! I never thought I would say that!!

Pros:

-Did relieve my acne,

Cons:

- Takes a while to actually start working
- Can irritate skin a LOT (very drying, can sting, can make your face burn, causes redness, etc)
- Don't get it on your eyebrows, it will bleach them
- Very small bottles
- You must continue to use it EVERY day, or else the effectiveness will wear off

I think the price you pay for this is far too high, especially considering the fact that the amount you get is so small. I honestly thought Proactiv saved my life for the first 6 months-1 year, but after that it started to have the side effects mentioned in Cons, and I think in the end it did more harm than good. It does work, but what you have to pay (money and side effects) doesn't seem worth it.

Pros:

-Contains 2.5% benzoly peroxide
-Clears skin quickly
-Left skin smooth
-Diminished red marks/acne scars

Cons:

-Drying to sensitive skin
-Increased sensitivity to sunlight

I ran out of Dan's BP and didn't have the cash to buy another bottle. I saw this at Walmart and figured it was worth a shot. I've used Proactiv in the past, and it make my skin worse. Cautious, I only bought this step. It cleared my breakouts in about 2 weeks, then my red marks began to fade away much more quickly than before. I need to wear a moisturizing sunscreen while using it, but that kept my face smooth and clear. I used Equate Beauty Lotion.

Cons:

ALL

They will steal money from your account and tell you they are doing you a courtesy. I bought one shipment and much to my surprise they sent out another kit without my authorization and charged my account. NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. Do yourself a HUGE favor.

Pros:

- Did not over dry my skin
- No smell

Cons:

- Didn't help my acne at all
- Left a thin film of skin over my pimples
- Left scars

I bought this a couple weeks before graduation in desperate need to get rid of this huge pimple on my cheek. I used it before I went to bed and in the morning when I woke up. It didn't work at all. I saw no improvement in that one pimple. It probably irritated it even more. It also left a thin film of skin that COVERED my pimple. The only way to get rid of my pimple was to peel the skin off so I that skin didn't block it. Doing that made me scar so either way it didn't work. The only good thing was that I didn't smell anything and it didn't dry the rest of my skin. Other than that, don't waste your time or money.

Pros:

It worked for me!

Cons:

I began to eat foods that I could not eat before before and now have a weight gain.

I have never submitted a review before on a product but I just had to share my experience with AcneFree.. I am 56 years old and up to age 54 suffered immeasurably with acne. I tried everything on the market from diets, stringents, medication such as Accutane (went away but came back a year later) and all the various cycline meds. I saw this product and started using it two years ago and of course I was skeptical at first but I had almost immediate relief over a course of two weeks and have never looked back. I even started eating things I thought I could never eat again. This product may not work for everyone but it sure worked for me. I only wish I could have had AcneFree back when I was a teenager, my life most certainly would have been changed. Thank you AcneFree!

Pros:

-Great for acne
-Doesn't irritate the skin
-Dries out pimples

Cons:

-Smells kinda weird

If you need a benzoyl peroxide wash, get this product. At first I had some regret buying the product because I thought it was going to irritate my skin due to the "maximum strength" label. After using this a couple of weeks, I noticed that I don't get as much pimples as I did before and a lot of my redness that I had on my face has faded.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
