Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Doesn't clog pores
It's a good complement to the regimen(think about it, two of the best acne fighters working together?). It gives it a little extra umph.

Cons:

Tiny bottle
Pricy

This will terribly dry your skin!!! Especially in winter. Don't abandon your acne.org moisturizer or whatever default moisturizer you had for this one. Let me explain how I use it. Pay attention, because this could be your key to clear skin: I do the Regimen twice a day like always, but if I just had a breakout or I feel like one's coming, I use this right AFTER the BP application (I'll also do it occasionally to help fight the war on old brown spots and scarring). HOWEVER, despite this stuff being a moisturizer, it will tear your skin up somethin' fierce! Use your regular amount of moisturizer, but send in the troops on what would be extremely dry, cracking skin. By this I mean, grab jojoba oil and AHA+ for it. You will need it!! I guess you could say this is my unofficial 4th step to the regimen. SHHH! Don't tell Dan!

Pros:

-cleans skin
-prevents future break outs most of the time, and when it does happen it is very little and the pimples go away after a couple days after continued use

Cons:

-none

Best product I have ever used. I am using triple action oxy but this is the same. I used to use oxy deep pore when i was younger and never had any major break outs, but then I stopped using it for some reason. Thats when i broke out like crazy, resorted to accutane two cycles then retin a for scars and i pretty much screwed up my skin. Now since ive been using oxy pads i dont have any pimples and the scars have faded because of retin a and la roche posay thermal water. Trust me if you don't want your pimples to be large and cause scarring use oxy pads fades them quickly.

Pros:

I’m very happy with this product. I put it on for 1 minute once every 5 days and it keeps big cysts away. It’s been a month now and I’m starting to see patches of clear skin I haven’t seen in years.

Cons:

I have really bad acne and my skin felt like it was literally on fire the first time I put it on.. I had to wash it off after only a few seconds.

I'm using this with the Coral KAVI and am getting incredible results. I do have extremely oily skin (regular soap and I'm oily after about 45 minutes, with Coral KAVI, it takes about three hours).

Pros:

-Clears skin overnight. (not completely tho, of course)
-Leaves your skin feeling clean.
-Great for combination/oily skin.

Cons:

-Very very strong smell
-May sting if u have any open sores

I'm in love with these pads. Theyre super thin but completely drenched in whatever chemicals they use to clear the skin. The first noticed i used it i noticed a huge difference in my pimple size..a decrease of about 85%!! i use these about 4 or 5x a week, i dont use them everyday cuz i dont want my skin to become immune to it and start to break out. But it hasnt yet and overall i love these pads!

Pros:

It leaves a clean feeling. I used this for a day and 10 pimples cleared up! You can actually see the dirt that was on your face on the pad!

Cons:

It smells weird, but it is only because it has alcohol. Also, it only stings if you pop your pimples, so don't touch your face. If you did touch your face, you know it's working because it stings

This product is amazing! I would recommend it to anyone with oily or combination skin!

Pros:

Immediately made my face feel super clean
Makes your skin feel fresh
Effective

Cons:

Loses effectiveness over time

I love this cleanser. I was using Murad's kit for about a month, and my skin never felt radiantly clean. The minute I washed my face with this wash again, I realized how much I'd missed it. I look forward to washing my face at night. Used with the advantage spot treatment, my acne has significantly cleared up. I've noticed it doesn't do much for blackheads, though. After using Murad, my jawline broke out in tons of blackheads. I'll probably pick up the blackhead eraser sometime soon.

Pros:

Clears MOST acne.
Smells good.
Feels refreshing.
Doesn't irritate my skin.

Cons:

Doesn't clear ALL acne.

This is a really good product for people with LIGHT acne. It cleared about 90% of my acne. My skin is slightly oily and I have light acne. This product helped reduce my acne and oil on my face. I would recommend this for people with light acne and oil production. Also the smell is great right before bed to fall asleep smelling this!

Pros:

-Successfully destroys all acne
-Nice mild scent
-Leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed
-Tightens pores like it's nobody's business
-Makes skin less oily in the summer

Cons:

-It can be quite drying to your skin, but more so in the winter.
-If you accidentally apply it too close to your eyes, it burns, which is not surprising seeing as it is an astringent.

I've tested this product out for almost a year, and it has done everything that it promised: tightened my pores, treated my acne, and reduced surface shine. There's not much else to say. It did it's job, and I'm happy that I chose this product.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
