Minocycline is an oral antibiotic that works by fighting bacteria in the body, including in the skin, and also reduces inflammation. It should be used only short term (max. 3 months).

It is usually taken once a day with food, at the same time every day.

Pros:

Cleared up most of the achne redness, did a good job on my face. I haven't noticed it making me feel sick at all. Cheap!

Cons:

Hasn't cleared up the achne on my back and shoulders as much as I would like. It makes me more sensitive to sunlight, so I go red on my face after a day out exposed to the sun!

Quite good product, it's not perfect, but I would reccommend it - it's certainly a good improvement at a decent price.

Pros:

Works great for body acne. Covered by insurance.

Cons:

Took about 2 months for full clear skin. Caused hyperpigmation, yeast infection, and a little nausea.

I have moderate acne mostly on my chest and back. Minocycline worked better than accutane, however, I have hyperpigmation on my face which I believed was caused solely by minocycline. (This is one of the side effects.) My acne returned within the a week or two of stopping. 100mg daily for 6 months. I currently am using a sea salt solution after my showers and that seems to be working fine.

Pros:

Got rid of most acne. Easy to take. Cheap with insurance.

Cons:

Takes a long time to start working. Acne seemed to get worse before better. Can't take with food.

Overall this medicine has worked very well for my acne. Don't expect immediate results because it takes a few months to start working...but the end results are definetly worth it.

Pros:

BEEN USING IT FOR A WEEK... NONE YET BUT HEARD ALOT ABOUT IT.

Cons:

HOPE IT WORKS I HAVE BAD ACNE.

I BEEN USING PROACTIVE FOR 4 MONTHS AND NOTHING SO I DISIDED TO SPEAK WITH MY DOCKTER.AND SHE TOLD ME ABOUT ,MINOCYCLINE.

Pros:

It works pretty well, depending on people. Side effects are not so severe.

Cons:

Caused me a huge allergic reaction 3 weeks after .. Needed to go the urgence. !!!!TAKE ALLERGY PILLS!!!!!, THATS THE TRICK!!! USED BENADRYL!!!

A very good pill. I strongly recomende it but if you are allergic to certain antibiotics, don't dare touch it.

Pros:

Clears skin up effectively.

Cons:

You have to take it every day.
Makes me nauseous.

I was prescribed minocycline to use in conjuction with a benoyzl peroxide wash and tretinoin (retin-a). This combination has been very effective. I have visibly clearer skin now. Hardly any piimples. The only marks on my face are the scars from previous pimples. Otherwise, I would say the condition of my skin is excellent now. The medicine made me extremely nauseous in the beginning, so I started to take it about 30 minutes before I went to bed, which helped. One major con is, if you take this DO NOT have any alcohol, it makes you feel like you have a hangover x 100. I think the alcohol exacerbates the nausea. I'm not sure if I'm even suppose to drink on this, but when I know that I'll be having a few drinks, I don't take the med that night.

Pros:

7th week on Mino, 100mg a day. Helped clear up my skin to some extent. I still get 1-2 small zits per week, but there's definitely improvement. I'm going to continue taking it and see what happens!

Cons:

Initial breakout. No serious side effects. Caused mild photosensitivity. Quite pricey without insurance! Nearly $50 a month. :(

Pros:

This medication clears up my acne more quickly than about anything I've tried. I used it about 5 years ago, but then had to go off of it. Now am back on and once again before I've even taken it for a week, my skin is drying in clearing beautifully.

Cons:

EXTREME sun sensitivity. I went to a Pirates game and even though I normal don't even tan, I have developed a slight case of sun poisoning. This med also causes extreme itchiness because it has such a high tissue concentration level.

For me it works like a miracle drug, but you have to outweight the pros and cons. Make sure you invest in good sunblock before spending time outside. Girls, eat lots of yogurt. The worst thing about this med is that you can't stay on it forever. And i'm terrified of what will happen when I have to go off of it again.

Pros:

Cleared up my acne better than doxycycline within two weeks ( 200mg a day). My face is smoother than it has been in years.

Cons:

Unfortunately I may have to stop taking this medication. I have had constant headaches that started about a week after I started this medicine ( I've been on it for about a month now) I also had a yeast infection week 2

This product works great. Try it for a week. If you can deal with the side effects, then stick with it. If not, find something else. Do not put your health at risk for clear skin.

Pros:

Not breaking out as much as I had been.

Cons:

A bit of depression and I'm not one to be depressed.

Would recommend minocyclene over accutane because of the side effects of accutane. My dermatologists also has me using Tazorac, which he describes as liquid sand paper. Has helped smooth out my skin. Now contending with the hyperpigmentation (dark spots) from the acne.
