Pros:

reduces little acne, after about 6-8 weeks but does not cure it. i recommend accutane which my brother used for cystic acne and worked tramendously.

Cons:

redness, some dry skin, about fifth week in i started to break out

get accutane there is more assurance on clearing up your face with accutane rather than minocycline.

Pros:

It clears some acne.

Cons:

I was a little drowsy the first week on this medicine I have my face clean just with some red marks from acne but they are healing away my problem is that I still have acne in my back, chest, arms. So my derm wants me to go on accutane next week..

This medicine might work for some people, but like I said it helps alot to my face but my chest, back and arms are kinda the same they have just improve a little so my dr says to go on accutane next week... I thought alot about it... and Im doing it.. Hopefully all works great

Pros:

good stuff

very good. do not take thios medicine with calcium or iron at the same time. you should have at least a 2 hour gap between taking the medicane and taking in food that has iron or calcium. if you eat breakfast at 8 am in the morning, you should only be drinking this medicine at around 10:30. then at 12:30 you can eat what you want. remeber anything with calcium in it like milk, cheese , butter wil absorb the minocycline and it wont work. you have to follow a daily routine and try to drink at the same time everyday.

Pros:

I've been taking it for only a week and have noticed big change in breaking out, it's stopped, except maybe one little pimple I have gotten since I took it.. My face used to be bad,got better, now it freaked out a lil again, so I took this.

Cons:

Side effects suck, So far I have gotten nauesa but that went away, I then got yeast infection. (Since it can cause irritation there) I've only been taking it for a week and this just happened a few days ago. I also think I have a bad kidney as it is.

Bottom line it works, and reduces redness.. but, if you want to suffer the side effects be my guest.. I might see if there's a better option for an antibiotic with not so many risks. Most people can have side affects.. Women who take this, there's high risk of vaginal irritaion because this antibiotic kills bacteria which the bacteria stops yeast infections. Weird I thought I would see someone pointing this out on the first page, maybe didn't want to let it all out.. But hey this is a big risk. I recommend this to people who don't care about side effects.. I might use it till I talk to my doctor about it to see if there is anything else effective that's an antibiotic. Insurence saved me 42.99

Pros:

Completely cleared acne

Cons:

Once in awhile would experience dizziness and would be sick to stomach

This product was my saving grace. I started this medication when I was 23 and continued to take it for 3 years. My skin cleared up entirely. I found a new Dr. and was told I shouldn't be on this drug for that long so I stopped and Acne has reappeared. So now I am back to square one trying to figure out something else that works. But I would recommend this product to anyone where everything else has failed them.

Pros:

This product works wonders on cystic acne as it targets hormones. Results are apparent within a couple of weeks. I believe most insurances should cover the cost, so it remains relatively inexpensive.

Cons:

You will still get the small acne that needs to be controlled with topical cream. My doctor told me she didn't want me taking it for more than a year due to harmful effects with prolonged usage.

I definitely suggest using this product if you have problems with painful, cystic acne. If possible, this product is nicely paired with a retinol like Differin (which should keep the smaller acne at bay). Once you have procured a Rx, make sure to discuss how long you will be able to use the product as doctor's opinions may differ. I believe the medication also makes you a tad more sensitive to sunlight so be sure to have a nice SPF of 15 or 30 in your moisturizer (which you should already have!) I also had some problems after a while with eyebrow waxing (my skin was overly sensitive), but I feel like the spa was just blaming the medication for their mistakes. Overall, I really appreciated what the medication did for my acne problems.

Pros:

It worked within days and I have had acne for over 10 yrs! I was bumpless for the first time since accutane 7 yrs ago. After 4 months however I'm noticing that pimples are coming on more and more...but I'm afraid to bump up beyond current 100mg bid

Cons:

Within a couple days I started to get this deep itchy sensation all over. In two weeks I started to get unbearable hives. I backed off and slowly got back on and 4 months later the hives or itching has never come back! But now the efficacy is less

The stuff worked for me. Never had any nausea or side effects besides strange itching and eventual hives - after backing off for a week to let my body adjust I did one 100mg pill every day, then 1 every 18 hours and then one every 12 hrs which is where I was supposed to be in the first place. Never had a side effect again and it worked awesome. After 4 months I am starting to break out again... not sure exactly what to do. The greatest part is I have no hypersensitivity to the sun which has plagued me with all of the other meds Ive tried for my acne. I'm thinking of getting off of it because I can feel its not working as well anymore and I'm also afraid of turning blue.

Pros:

Completely cleared my severe acne up other than the occasional couple of pimples a week after taking 200mg/day for a little over 2 months. No side effects.

Cons:

Been off it for 2 weeks because I'm going on a cruise and worried about increased sensitivity to sun exposure- I've just started breaking out pretty bad again.

It works as long as you're taking it...I didn't have dry skin or any other side effects I've had as a result of other acne meds. My skin didn't seem quite as oily as usual either. I do still have red/purple scars from pimples which my dermatologist claims will go away with time. I had an expensive and mildly painful microdermabrasion and chemical peel which made my face very dry but I think it somewhat sped up the process of the scars disappearing.

Pros:

It has worked really well for me i have been on it for 3 weeks and i have noticed a vast difference. I has on Doxy for the longest time and it just stopped working so i then i went to minocycline.

Cons:

I would say the dry lips, but i am also in iraq so that could be another reason. If you drink lots of water like you should be with any antibiotic you will be fine.

I am a in the army and overseas so my acne had gotten worst then ever the bottom line is this worked better then doxy and me being a medic i prescribed it to me and it was free.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
