Pros:

It virtually cleared up the all the persistant modorate acne on my face. Began working quite quickly. No side effects

Cons:

After approx. 6 months acne slowly began to return. Now, after 8 months of taking minocycline, it has stopped working completely and I'm back where I started :(

It worked really well for a while until I built a resistance to it.

Pros:

It works for my rash that I have and clears it up, but you have to take every drop.

Cons:

It makes me extremely sick. It makes my head hurt and my arms numb, it caused me to have a cat scan because i thought it was migranes and come to find out it was this medicine. It really makes me sick and im not taking it no more.

It works but makes you feel crappy.

Pros:

i'v been on this for about six months, and my skin has been flawless! i dont even need spot treatments, and my skin care regimen only consists of a mild cleanser, its all i need.

Cons:

i have a sensitive stomach and lately the side effects have been pretty bad. nausea is the worst, but its worth it because my skin is perfect

good as long as side effects are manageable

Pros:

After taking it, I got less breakouts. It helped my acne.

Cons:

No cons because it works and I got no side effects.

It worked really well since I got less breakouts. I would get breakouts about every few days but now I don't breakout as often. Also, the sizes of my acne have gotten a lot smaller.

Pros:

clearing acne as we speak. absolutley no side effects for a month and a half.

Cons:

mass breakout on start of month 2 on it. red marks are left!

buy it if you havent given it a try before. it may or may not work. but nothing usually works for me, and this is looking very promising. i have moderate/severe breakouts, and sometime i have minor/moderate but this stuff has only just kicked in for me and has stopped the daily breakouts im getting, while my skin in trying to heal the old marks and scabs from the breakout i had one month into the meds. i have been on 50 mg twice a day, but have recently just uppped myself to 100mg twice a day to see if this helps. only problem with that is that ive only got 4 rpts left on my script and hopefully the doctor/derm with give me more scripts.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Well, i dont think there were cons. My skin became much more oily and therefore my acne got much woese in the time I was on it but I dont think this was related to the drug.

Doesnt do much if your skin is just too oily. Maybe it will work better if your acne is more of thr inflamitory type.

Pros:

I had acne for about 10 years but it worked & reacted quickly..
I've tried all kinds of ance product and laser treatments but minocycline works the best.

Cons:

I took it for two weeks and stopped.. then ance came back in a month.. I'm not sure if it was the egg I ate since I'm allergic to eggs.. also I've been having a major depression! but it could be because of a breakup w/ my bf.. who knows what it is..

It doesn't hurt to try... It works pretty good.. However, it seems that ance may come back once stop taking it.. Everything has pros & cons.. You're the decision maker!

It started to clear up my acne in just a few days - I used this product with Differn Gel 0.3

Cons:

It made me dizzy and feel slightly nauteous

Works if you can handle the slight side effects

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
