Pros:

It worked for me, and I only have mild-moderate acne and occasional cysts.
Here in Canada, we don't really have to pay much for treatments, and my mum works with the hospital, so I got it for free.

Cons:

Discoloured my teeth, and after noticing I immediately stopped the treatment, and went to the dentist (costed me nothing, just extra polishing and scraping)

It worked to lighten my acne, but discoloured my teeth. I had to stop the treatment. This doesn't mean it won't work for you! Give it a try if your doc prescribes it, but I would recommend going to a trained dermatologist first. They know alot, and you can ask questions.

Pros:

Dried up some of my bacacne

Cons:

Didn't have that much bacance. Maybe one of two bumps a month.
My vision has started to get unfocused.

My doctor is an idiot. I have moderate acne, maybe even moderate-to-mild and she prescibes me this? Sounds like it's suppose to be for ppl with more serious acne and the risks are way more frightening than the possibility of somewhat clearer skin. No, just no.

Pros:

I've been on this a week now to clear up moderate cystic acne, and it seems to be lessening the symptoms.

Cons:

This drug makes me feel dizzy, tired, and I have a mild tightness in my chest.

I'd rather deal with the acne.

Pros:

Umm i didn't react badly.

Cons:

I have now been taking it for 3 months.
And it has done NOTHING.
I went back to my doctor and he told me it takes 3-4 months to work, which is on the contrary to what i've read here.

I'm dissapointed that i stuck it out for so long, the doc just kept telling me it will work eventually, and i've just wasted time and money.

Pros:

After a few weeks, the results are great! I had good skin almost all the time, except for the random breakout. My texture was also very good!

Cons:

At the beginning I started to get an upset stomach, but then my body got use to the antibiotic. The other problem is, the minute you go off...your acne will come back. It's a good substitute until you find a product to stay on long term!

I started using this antibiotic on and off, until I could find a more stable product, but it just worked so well that I kept on it. I stopped using it about a month ago, and I had been on it for about 3 months. I stopped because I needed to go on another antibiotics for colds and stuff, and the minute I stopped I started breaking out...bad! Now, I've started back on it until I can go on the pill as well. My acne has gotten so bad though, that I don't know how fast it'll work!

Pros:

Strong, Cleared Up my acne

Cons:

Never wanted to eat while on this pill, I always have a sick feeling in my stomach, I wanted to lose weight at the time as well so I suppose it was sort of a pro, but not suggested!!!

Don't go for this product, go for Septra, works SOOOO much better than this and it's not harsh on your body, no headaches, stomachaches, or dizziness.

Pros:

It improved my acne... somewhat

Cons:

It didn't eliminate it

It's not worth the co-pay with my insurance. It didn't improve my acne any more than (cheap) drugstore topical treatments.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
