Pros:

no new breakouts once i started this treatment. Cleared up in about 2 weeks!

Cons:

None really

I started taking minocycline after a reaction to my birth control which made me break out. AHH it was horrible. I started taking minocycline beginning of july and just finished this past week and i can't complain about it. I have post-inflammatory red marks from old breakouts but those eventually fade with time and with the Murad post acne fade gel I purchased. I hadn't had a break out until the end of september where i got one or two little ones but not like the huge ones i used to get. I recommend it, it's worth a shot. Now I'm on doxycycline even though i'm not sure why the doctor switched my medication...we'll see how it goes.

Pros:

Reduced Inflammation
Reduced Redness
Reduced Severity of Outbreaks

Cons:

Did Not Stop Outbreaks

Overall its a antibiotic worth trying it reacts with people in different ways, what doesn't help some might be a fix to others. I only took it for a month and maybe I didnt see its full benefits. Saying this though I used Epiduo gel along with monocylcine.

Pros:

So far so good only on day 3 but I've been doing my birth control and differn .3 and my face is smooth except for 1 bump that is almost gone on my cheek. I have not gotten ill or anything on mino. Hopefully when next month comes around ill be okay

Cons:

Nothing.

I wanted to prevent my monthly cycle break outs that consisted of cyctic acne all over my chin and jawline so I went on birthcontrol, Yaz, for about 2 months and it cleared me up but still would get a few break outs on my chin and jawline so went to derm and she reccomnded mino and difern, so far so good now I can work on getting rid of all this scaring from my past break out. Id deff say gve it a try and see if it works for you. Oh my derm put me on two 100mg pills a day to start off with. Ill update in a weekor so. I started off with moderate acne before going on my birth control now with the differin and mino I only have one bump that is practically gone.

Pros:

Makes skin very smooth, seems to be clearing acne up well

Cons:

I became increasingly tired, headaches, sensitive stomach

I have been minocycline for just over a month now, and have seen an improvement with my skin. Although it is not a huge improvement, it is an improvement none the less. I visited my gp yesterday, and he prescribed me with another 2 months dosage. He is very happy with the results so far, and has ensured me i will be clear soon, and to be patient, as it does take a long time for the drugs to settle in to the system. I seem to be doing fine witht the side effects, not as bad as some. A few headaches here and there, bit of tiredness, and stomach sensitivity, but its woth it to have clear skin.

Pros:

works well and cleared up acne fast!

Cons:

It caused liver damage, and my liver is still trying to recover from it. I had to stop taking the medication after a year, but my acne didn't come back. just make sure to get you liver checked so you don't end up like me!

be careful! I recommend it only because it worked well.

Pros:

Worked well

Cons:

If you use it for a long period of time, dark spots will form on your face. Sort of like scars, except not from picking.

I was using it with differin and my face was great. Not completely clear, though. Some small pimples on my hairline, but it was okay. Then my mom and derm. switched everything on me and my skin got horrible. Now if I switched back, it would be too weak.

Pros:

Made my acne a little better, easy to swallow, can take in morning or night, didnt make my tummy upset, cheap with insurance. It was 32$ with no insurance, but 8.75$ with insurance. THANK GODD!!!!!

Cons:

Well.. its didnt really clear up my skin, it helped but it didnt fully take it away. Well with every pill, i always forgot sometimes LOL

This is a good product if you have light acne, i think light acne sufferers would benefit more. JUST TRY IT!

Pros:

cleared up the deep acne that retin a couldn't get rid of within three weeks. reduces swelling.

Cons:

you have to watch what you eat when you're on it. dairy decreases its effectiveness. you're not supposed to lie down for half an hour after you take it.

i had been on retin-a micro for a year, and while it had helped control my acne, i always had a couple of pimples left that were deep and hard. this got rid of them pretty much right away.

Pros:

I have taken Minocycline for nearly 6 years and it has proved very effective at controlling my acne and reducing redness/scarring. I cannot fault this drug as it has been a life saver for me.

Cons:

None

After having had 4 (!) courses of Roaccutane during my early 20s to tackle my very bad acne (which particularly effects my back and chest), my dermatologist prescribed Minocycline as his preferred antibiotic to control my condition. It has generally worked very well for some years and it is with much sadness that I now have to stop taking it as I am about to try and start for a family (not sad about the family bit of course, just that I have to stop taking this drug). I have had no ill side effects and I would recommend this antiobiotic for anyone who has moderate to severe acne that needs to be controlled. It significantly reduces inflammation, redness and oiliness. Unfortunately within 2 weeks of coming off it though, the spots and redness have appeared with a vengeance. I have now been prescribed erythromcin which is apparenlty ok to take if you are pregnant. I'm hoping it's as effective as Minocycline

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
