Pros:

worked well in the beginning.

Cons:

it took about 6 weeks til it started working, then after six months maybe, it didnt work anymore. when i stopped taking it, my acne was still bad, but no worse.

works til you get used to it. oh yeah, and it only worked when it made me throw up every morning. as soon as it stopped bothering my stomach, it was no longer helping. some people it seems to help more long term though, so give it a try.

Pros:

none

Cons:

made acne worse

I have moderate acne on my face, chest, shoulders and back and was prescribed minocyline. I took it for a little over eight weeks... i didn't have any side effects but it did make my acne worse, although they were small pimples added to my already existin acne they were annoying all the same.

Pros:

Kept face semi clear of acne.

Cons:

Severe Dizziness.
Nausea.
Vertigo. Fatigued Feeling. Sun Sensitivty

Seems to work okay, but I had a horrible experience twice. The first time was when my doctor told me to double the dose I was taking. After I did the next day I seemed to get very dizzy followed by vomiting. This lasted for 2 days. A year later I tried to go back on the "mino" and the same thing happend.

Pros:

i was on minocycline for almost a year. after the first two months my face was totally clear, and stayed that way. i thought it was a miracle!

Cons:

two months afteri went off the drug my skin looked worse than it ever had before. it was the first time i had ever gotten cystic acne. i'm now undergoing my second round of treatment with it, been on it for two months with no real results.

don't take it unless you want to be on antibiotics for the rest of your life.

Pros:

I didn't see any pros.

Cons:

Expensive (with my insurance), gave me yeast infections the entire time I was on it.

I was on 90mg of Solodyn once a day and using Ziana gel at night. While it did help the nodules go down some and the redness go away a little bit, it did not work much than that. I was only on it for a month, so that's probably why. The entire time I was on both of these I had yeast infections, so I was glad when I got off of it. Am now on 30mg of Sotret twice a day and glad!

Pros:

None that I could see in 4 weeks.

Cons:

Broke out in hives after 4 weeks. I was compelled to post this after I read about someone having the same problem in Arizona. I was in agony. My eyes swelled and I had painful swelling in my hands and wrists. It was horrible.

As I can see from other"s posts it works for some people, but remember you are taking a huge risk when you start taking this medecine. I wish I never had.

Pros:

None at all..

Cons:

I didnt do anything for me I took about refills and it seemed to make it worse.

I eat extremely healthy everyday no junk food and not much alcohol. I also hit the steam room everyday and take a show immediatly after and my back still broke out with Minocycline. I am now tryin Doxycyline to see if any changes

Pros:

My skin seems to be slowly clearing up.

Cons:

I get super dizzy, and light headed. I feel like I am in a fog.

I'm not sure about this at all, I think i might go off it. I think having a healthy body and feeling well is more important than a my acne. Perhaps a hormone level check with my doctor is what is need.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
