Pros:

Seemed to slightly relieve the amount of breakouts.

Cons:

Does not reduce oil, acne seems about the same

I have been on the generic form of minocycline as well as an alternative form solodyn. Both of these medication did not provide much help and the are very expensive. Body also adjusts to the drug.

Pros:

-clears up most acne within a month

Cons:

-body becomes used to the minocin, making it less effective
-skin becomes sensitive to light
-liver damage

dont do minocin, just bite the bullet and take accutane. My body got used to minocin after about a year, and then I'd have to stop taking it for a few weeks just so it'd be more effective. Obviously the best way to go about getting rid of acne is to let it happen naturally, but if your going to decide on taking an antibiotic then just take accutane...Once you stop taking minocin the acne just comes back (worse at times), once you stop taking accutane ur skin stays clear

Pros:

It really cleared up the acne almost immediately.

Cons:

It sucked up my synovial fluid and I got severe dysabling joint pain. Once off the med. my symptoms went away. Now I am seeing a rheumotologist.

Very bad experience but you don't know until you try it.

Pros:

None. Do not use this Drug. Its not worth it.

Cons:

Avoid this Drug at all costs. I took this product for only a few days when My body broke out in Hives! I have Red, Extremely itchy, and swollen areas all over my body. My feet and wrists are very swollen. The itching is unbarable.

On day one my left eye swelled up to the point that my eye was only half open. And on Day 2 my left eye was almost all better but then my Right eye swelled up. Having acne all over is better then having Hives. I promise its just not worth it.

Have only been on minocycline for a week now in conjunction with Lanate cream. Normally i only seem to get little pimples on my top of arms & back. But since taking this ive noticed Ive been getting breakouts on my face which im not happy about at all!! Haven't experienced headaches apart from today but i think thats because i had a late night last night. How long does this stuff take to work and does it get worse before it gets better on mino? Ive read it works from inside out so maybe its my skin cleaning out the pores making way for beautiful skin!!

Pros:

My skin does feel less oily, no other pros. Been on it for a week.

Cons:

So far my skin has been worse than it was before, and I'm using it in conjunction with BP and Tretinoin

I've tried a lot of topical creams and tetracylcline with no long lasting success, hoping this antibiotic won't give me many side affects.

Pros:

can't see any as of yet (6weeks)

Cons:

made my acne much worse without signs of improvement

I am 20 years old an started to develop moderate/mild acne over the last year. I have been on minocycline for almost 6 weeks now. The first 4 weeks I noticed no change. The 5th week I started to break out worse than ever. I even took off from work today because I was too embarrased to see anyone. I am now in my 6th week and just added Retin-A Micro to my routine as per my derm. I am hoping this helps but heard this also makes acne severly worse before better. I am not trying to scare anyone from using this product.. but if you occasionally or rarely break out i would reccommend just dealing with it and skipping this all together!

Pros:

Free over NHS

Cons:

Caused an allergic reaction during 2nd month - hives all over body and chest pain.
Does not provide a long term solution to acne.

Minocycline didnt help my acne at all. Just some advice - if your experiencing an adverse/allergic reaction get an appointment with your doctor and they will help you out!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
