Pros:

Clearned acne somewhat.

Cons:

Terrible side effects- migraines, loss of appatite, dizziness, blurred vision PSEUDO TUMOR.

I was on this antibiotic for about 3-4 months. it worked minimally, no significant improvement. In december i started getting migraines daily at the exact same time. Over christmas break that got so bad i couldn't move from laying down or pass out. I was taken to the ER give a thousand of tests. i had my eyes checked because it was getting very hard to see. I had a pseudo tumor resulting from the minocycline, which is an increase of spinal fluid that gives sever headaches and causes vision impairments. i had to stop it immediately and can never take it again. overall, not worth it even a little bit. the pain i went through as a result was like being tortured. a week straight on the couch because i had a spinal tap to remove the fluid, and the pain only got worse. now, about 2 months later im almost back to normal and acne free!

Pros:

-works great if your body adapts to it
-cleared up my skin

Cons:

-induced lupus

Bottom line it worked great for me for two years. I was on and off. I took it for a year and cleaned up all my acne, I would never break out, only occasionally during my mestrual cycle. The second year I was on and off, only took it when I started having break outs. Three months ago I started having horrible pain on all of my joints and could barely walk or move my fingers. I would get that pain 3-4 days a week. Went to the doctor and they found out this medicine induced lupus and gave me all the symptoms of it so sadly I had to stop taking it. My pain is gone but started breaking out again:( Bottom line this is a great medicine if your body doesnt experience all the side effects, as you can see it worked for me just fine for 2 years. I do recommend it!

Pros:

Reduced bumps, redness, cystic acne, white heads, etc

Cons:

Gave me nausea at times

I have tried all the over the counter products, Proactiv/benzil/salycic acid/tee tree oil etc. I recently broke out bad, going from moderate acne, to severe.... and it was really getting me down and depressed (my confidence is usually never low) but I was experienceing very low self esteem. I recently went to the derm and he gave me minocycline and prednisone. I take one 100mg Minocycline and two 20mg Prednisone. I also use topical creams retin-A at night and metro gel, during the day. its my first week and I can see and feel a difference. I can at least now cover some of the redness up with my bare mineral ID (bare essentual) makeup (the only thing that doesnt make me break out). I hope this helpes for people out there wondering what to do about severe acne. I am waiting a few months then may start accutane so my acne goes away for good.

Quite good, Little to no side effects
I used this consistently for about 3-4 months, but my doctor took me off of it because you're not supposed to be on an antibiotic for all that long. I had severe breakouts around my jaw and chin and they were cleared up within a month or two. My Hyperpigmentation then took about 2 months to go away and I still have reddish tint/patch coloration which I know will also go away. Just remember to take it regularly and not to skip dosages. AND PLEASE get it from a real doctor and don't just order it off the internet.

Thrilled
I had no results until about week 4 and I noticed I didn't have any new acne. Now at 6 weeks I am clear with only an occasional tiny pimple. This has been great for me.

Pros:

This completly cleared up my acne. It was only moderate around my skin and forehead but something that I was very annoyed with.I have been trying out treatment for about the last 5 years (am 23). Am left with no scarring. Can go out with no make up. I take it before I go to bed at night. Have been on it for 7 months now.

Cons:

This cannot be taken within the same time period as other pills such as iron supplements. I is rather expensive.Paid €37 for a months supply. There are cheaper alternatives apparently but I'm sticking with what I know

It cleared my acne up withing a couple of weeks. Was told last week I had lovely skin. I haven't had any side effects.

Pros:

-Clears up acne.
-Cheap.

Cons:

-Took about 5 weeks to go from moderately severe acne to light acne.
-Started to feel tired and lazy.
-Sensitivity to sunlight.

I've been on Minocycline for about 7 weeks, and I am very pleased with my results. I had moderately severe acne that I was so self-conscious about. I now have light acne. It took about 5 weeks, though, to see these results. I'm sure my acne will be completely gone within the next couple weeks as I continue to use this product. I definitely recommend it! Enjoy :)

Pros:

Cleared up acne and body acne

Cons:

I started getting too many side effects

I still had some acne after taking this for 1 month so my dermatologist told me to start taking 100mg twice a day instead of once a day. I started getting extremely nauseous after this so I went back down to 100mg, but the nausea didn't go away. When I first started taking it I got extremely dizzy and had horrible headaches for about a week then my body adjusted. I also had indigestion problems for a while. This does do a good job eliminating acne, but for me the side effects just weren't worth it.

Pros:

stopped much of breakouts, pimples which did appear were not as deep or painful

Cons:

did not have significant effect on body acne

i took minocycline for a little less than two months - please do NOT take this medication for longer than a few months, because it can built up resistance and that's not a good thing. this is a very good medication for people who want to clear up their breakouts and give their skin a chance to recover from constant acne. i stopped taking this about two weeks ago, so i'm not sure if my acne will reappear, but so far my skin has been great. it's the best it's ever been in the last year (about a year ago i started getting more severe acne), and so far it's only been getting better... even after i stopped taking the pills. HOWEVER: i think that part of my improvement might be attributed to a no-milk diet i have been trying. i used to drink milk a lot; every morning i would have cereal with milk and then usually i'd have another glass throughout the day. i recently stopped drinking all milk (but i still eat my usual amount of dairy products) and i really feel like my acne has significantly improved. i urge everyone to at least give this a try... it can't hurt.

Pros:

-Cheap If you have insurance, was free for me.
-Kills Bacteria preventing new pimples/acne
-Anti_Inflamatory effect, reduces the redness of acne.
Capsules look awsome (just sayin)

Cons:

Side effects will come. Yay :) I have been on minocycline 100mg twice daily for about a week.
-Doesnt work right away
-I have experienced extreme diziness after 4 days of use
-Sense of uneasiness
-Today developed significant fever/cold
-Extremely hard to get to sleep(couldnt't sleep until 1am second day of use and had an exam to write early the next morning, fun). I hope this doesn't result in insomnia cause i still can't sleep properly and am always tired
-Headache

So basically been on it for a week, havent seen much of an improvement other than the fact that the redness of my acne has been decreasing. Also no new pimples have formed but i think thats cause i have stopped eating bannanas. Im already sick of the side effects because it is interfering with my school, but hey il basically do anything to clear my acne cause im tired of having it. My main concern is extreme diziness/spaced out, i can't even explain it, my heads just always spinning, pretty weird. I Just hope it works and my acne FINALLY stops ruining my life, if not then accutane to look forward too, even better. Hopefully it just takes awhile to really kick in.. Will update in a few weeks on progress. Have a good one and good luck with mionocycline and acne. Acne sucks lol

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
