Pros:

my inflammatory cystic acne cleared up in 2 days

Cons:

it s an antibiotics, a mild one, but still ...
made my vaginal flora more sensitive
a bit dizzier than usual

It s the 2nd time I m following a 3 months minocin treatment. My acne problem started when I became a broadcaster for TV. I have to wear HEAVY foundation all day long. Within less than 2 months, I started develop cystic acne which would go on and on (especially around my period). I tried everything I could find here OTC, went to see 3 different dermatologists, even tried Proactiv (got it imported from the States). Nothing worked. I was REALLY desperate. Till, by pure chance, a plastic surgeon recommended me minocin. Cleared up everything in a couple of days. I also use Differin every evening, and did a laser treatment to get rid of the scars. In the first 6 weeks, I would have the occasional zit or whitehead, but easily removed, leaving no marks. Globally, my skin stayed clear for more than a year after I stopped. I still have the same job. The same inflammatory cystic acne is slowly getting back, so, I resumed taking minocin. Same positive results.

Pros:

Started working around the fifth week of using the product and worked really well for me.

Cons:

Took awhile to start working, still get occasional pimples, definitely worth it.

I would definitely recommend this.

Pros:

no more cystic acne, improved the quality of my skin

Cons:

it is an antibiotic, so its not a longterm solution for acne. i also often had diarrhea when I was on this

This was the only product that helped with my cystic acne (I would consistently have 4-5 deep, painful cysts that would linger for months). It also made my pores look smaller and my skin look brighter. I wish this wasn't an antibiotic so I could use this forever.

Pros:

It does a pretty good job. It didn't totally clear everything up but I would say it's about 75 percent better.

Cons:

I haven't noticed too many cons except I feel tired alot and I think it might have something to do with the drug.

Give it try. It's easy, cheap, and it might work well for you.

Pros:

This antibiotic works great. It's very easy to take, twice daily with or without food.

Cons:

None. Have been taking it for two weeks and love the results.

This has been working wonders for me. Before taking this about 3 weeks ago my skin was very red, and my chin was full of pimples. After two days of this antibiotic I saw results. My skin is now clear and I can finally see my radiant skin. I use Retin-A as well at night and this is making my skin even clearer. I also realized for people trying to have clear skin is; moisturize. I figured out that it's the most important step your skin needs to be healthy. Use Aveeno Positively Radiant, I found that works the best.

Pros:

Cleared up moderate acne and controlled it with few major breakouts.

Cons:

Bad breakouts when first begin usage. Wears off after about a year and half. Made my acne better but then a lot worse after about 2 years.

Good for about a year or so but make sure you switch once it wears off.

Pros:

I have seen a dramatic change in my acne since i started minocycline (about 6 weeks ago)My chest and back are clearing fairly quickly, and i have next to no pimples, just red marks on the jawline waiting to be cleared by the Stivea-A Cream i use.

Cons:

Can't be taken with food, I have yet to go off minocycline, so i really hope my acne stays away for good(i am only 18). Causes minor nasuae with me in the mornings

Great product, cheap, easy to keep on track with, minor side-effects, and the results you see can be seen within a few weeks of taking the pill.

Pros:

works

well until just recently after 2 years of use on the pill 200mg a day (100 mornin' 100 night) anyways... untill recently i would never have break outs while using the pill but for some reason i broke out about a week ago and it's still pretty bad. But if i remember right it took about three weeks for it to start working when i first started the prescription but i believe it's well worth the time put into for no acne

Pros:

cleared up my skin within a month (90% clear, fades away scars, skin feels smooth and soft

Cons:

none

This has completely worked for my moderate acne. I don't know if it's just the pills or if it's the clindoxyl gel also. Give it a try!!!! Also, if you're in Toronto go to Dr. Geller's acne clinic in Woodbridge. She's AMAZING!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
