Pros:

-Acne improves while on it but not completely..
-Loses efficacy

Cons:

-DONT TAKE IT FOR TOO LONG
-causes yellowing of the teeth!! really horrible side effect!
-drink with plenty of water!!! (once it got stuck in my throat and was super painful! could hardly breathe! scary)

If you have mild to moderate acne dont bother! antibiotics are not good for you and not a permanent solution! I was on it for just over a year and it caused a lot of yellowing of the teeth, looked as if i had been a heavy smoker for 15 years. NOT WORTH IT.

Pros:

Took away acme 100 percent. Had severve acme and this with retin a a iis only product that worked

Cons:

Ask your dentist. I have black roots on all my teeth and my permant teeth did. Not fully develop. All dentist I have see and spent thoasands of dollars with say that my teeth issues are from minocycline. I took product fo 7 years and dentist were able to tell I took product without me telling them. As soon as they pulled a tooth they asked about me taking minocycline due to the blackness and lack of development of teeth

The use of this product has destroyed my teeth. Causing me to have ulcers and losing half my teeth. This produxt should not be given to teenagers until teeth r fully developed. Would rather have hbad bad acme for my teen years than have the dental issues I now am facing

Pros:

-Reduces Redness
-Stops breakouts
-Not a mircale drug, stops redness but thats about it, still have acne
-Cheap, mine was free

Cons:

Side effects outweigh the benefits
-Diziness
-Lightheaded
-Vision problems (scary!!)
-Takes a long time to see improvements
-Dont feel/act like my regular self

Hey everyone its me again. So i have been on minocycline for 2 weeks now and today i have decided to stop taking the pills. I was taking 2 capsules of 100mg daily. Bottom line is that it makes me feel terrible. My diziness subsided slightly but now im having vision problems which i am extremely concerned about. In general i feel spaced out all the time, and the only way i can describe how i feel is like im in a 3rd person version of myself watching my life through a television. So about 5 minutes ago i just decided that its not worth it, and am now writing this review. Im not gonna say dont take it because everyones different, what i will say is give it about 2 weeks and if you are experiencing side effects, consider alternative methods. I have ultimately decided to try Accutane as a last resort and will be on that next week when i go to the doctors, fingers are crossed hoping that it works and il let you know how i do on te acfutane review page. Above all im just excited to get back to reality and feel like my regular self. like many of you i got this product and was extremely excited about it, but like everything i have tried it did not work and I am now back to square one. But hey im not gonna let it get me down, confidence is key, try not to get to worried about your acne and it will make your life a whole lot easier, Good luck with minocycline and acne, it just did not work out with me. Thanks

Pros:

Clearned acne somewhat.

Cons:

Terrible side effects- migraines, loss of appatite, dizziness, blurred vision PSEUDO TUMOR.

I was on this antibiotic for about 3-4 months. it worked minimally, no significant improvement. In december i started getting migraines daily at the exact same time. Over christmas break that got so bad i couldn't move from laying down or pass out. I was taken to the ER give a thousand of tests. i had my eyes checked because it was getting very hard to see. I had a pseudo tumor resulting from the minocycline, which is an increase of spinal fluid that gives sever headaches and causes vision impairments. i had to stop it immediately and can never take it again. overall, not worth it even a little bit. the pain i went through as a result was like being tortured. a week straight on the couch because i had a spinal tap to remove the fluid, and the pain only got worse. now, about 2 months later im almost back to normal and acne free!

Pros:

Helped decrease acne on my face and back after I'd been taking it for about 1month

Cons:

I had SEVERE vision problems while taking this. After about 2months of taking this I started to have really bad throbbing headaches with neck pain, I couldn't focus my eyes, adjust to light changes and had bright colorful blotches and lines across my vision even w/ eyes closed. My peripheral vision also decreased a lot. After I stopped taking these my vision started to get better right away but 3months later and my sight is still not 100% back to normal :(

I thought it worked pretty good before it started to make me go blind. With my insurance it cost about 10 bucks I think, but my overall Dr. bill for figuring out what was wrong with me is over $1,600 (with more visits scheduled for the near future) my optic nerve is still off the charts inflamed and I still have neck pain and decreased peripheral vision.....so i guess if you want to risk it go for it but I'd really recommend that if you try it that you keep track of how you feel on a day to day basis so you can consult your dr. with any health problems. Mine weren't sudden but gradually got worse over the period of about a month before I went to the Dr.

Cons:

4 days in intensive care...severe reaction. Docs said I had multi-organ failure. I was on this drug for about 8 or 9 days when I got sick. Thought it was a virus. couldn't breath and kidney's were in shut down. Very dangerous. Be careful and go to the doctor if you don't feel well

Stay away. Too many side effects and dangers.

Pros:

- no side effects
- easy to take (pill size)
- reduced inflamation

Cons:

- hard to remember to take all of them, i.e. one in the morning and one at night and have to be close to 12 hours apart
- didn't really clear up my acne, just reduced inflamation

ok well i went on 2 courses of minocycline (Minomyicin and Akamin was the brands i used). The first course, which i didnt fully complete cleared my skin slighty, more just controlled breakouts. I had to stop taking it because i went on other antibiotics becasue of sickness and then never went back on it. I was on it for approx 4 out of the 6 months. Acne did return about 6 months later so the doc prescribed me another course. This did not help at all. To a degree, it did reduce inflamation in the last half of the sixth month but acne will still obviously there. If u want my advice, I wouldn't dick around with antibiotics, just go on Accutane (isotretinoin), I am on it at the moment and already seeing wicked results, 55 days in and have no active pimples, just has to heal now. Im 19 years old, bout the only guy who has acne still at uni and really wish i had got on accutane earlier. Goodluck anyone who is reading this! dont let your acne get you down!

Pros:

Cons:

Headache, dizziness, rash, hives, fever, itchiness, body swelling.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE. I do not recommend this drug to anyone. I had to be admitted to the hospital for four days because of this medication. I was taking it for two weeks and experienced some headaches and dizziness. Right around two weeks, my body had a severe allergic reaction to the medication. My entire body from head to toe was covered in hives and the itchiest rash.

Pros:

Cons outweigh the Pros

Cons:

Dangerous!

Please think very carefully before taking antibiotics for acne. I was using Retin-A along with Minocycline to treat my moderate acne for about a year when I became very sick. I was terribly fatigued and my joints began to ache. The fatigue and joint pain eventually became so bad that I was not able to function--I had to drop out of college and was not able to work (I was 24 years old and needed help walking!). I started to loose weight and looked very sickly (many of my peers speculated that I was anorexic because I became so thin). My doctor did many tests and it was determined that I had lupus and I was referred to a specialist. The specialist suspected that the lupus may have been induced by the Minocycline and I stopped taking it immediately. It took over a year for body to return to normal and the lupus symptoms to go away. This medication stole over a year of my life and caused me a great deal of pain (both physically and emotionally). It was also very costly financially--since I was not able to go to school (and therefore no longer covered by my parents insurance) or work I had no insurance and accrued thousands in medical bills. Please be very careful and do your research before taking any medication, I wish I would have!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
