Pros:

Cleared my skin quickly
Prevents breakouts (no new zits)
Nice gel texture

Cons:

Can take a bit of time to rub then let dry (I use Dan's suggestion to wait 10-15 mins before putting on moisturizer)
Dryness

Dan's regimen is the only product to get my face infomercial clear. My skin cleared up faster than what it says on his "What to Expect" section and I never had purging. My skin became gradually clear each day, and I was using two pumps by the second week. The product takes a while to apply. I recommend putting on one pump first because it dries quickly. Then apply the second pump. If I glob it all on at one time it takes much longer to soak in. Then I wait 10-15 minutes. You'll feel the drying, but it helped expedite the process of clearing. Apparently the drying is helpful to the skin. Because the second step of applying BP took so long I tried Max Clarity which made some serious promises about not needing moisturizing and not purging but it was a fail for me. So I came back to what works. My skin is back to its radiate self in about a week. The product require a great moisturizing. Dan's moisturizing is the only one I find to not be a nuisance due to pilling. However, the moisturizing you need is so intense that it can cross the fine line between glowing and oily shine.

Pros:

Have been using this product for over 2 years now and it still works! Great customer care. Have tried loads of other acne care products including prescription antibitoics, stiemycin gel and even a dermatology referral for roaccutane. (That worked but acne came back as soon as I finished course and had max of 3 courses)

Cons:

Shipping expensive to UK

I would gladly recomend this product to anyone with mild to moderate acne. It's not a cure but then they don't sell it as one either. I'm a nurse and would even recomend this to patients.

Pros:

This is fabulous! I was skeptical at first but I am so happy I bought this. I have only been using my cleanser and treatment for 3 days and my skin already looks better to me. I don't have bad acne but it was enough to be a bother to me and some of them were under the skin. So painful! I definitely recommend it. Thank you Dan!

Cons:

Not to many! The benzoyl can be a little bit drying at first, just don't use to much. I followed the instructions very specifically. I haven't noticed any bleaching on the towels either. I didn't purchase the moisturizer because many of its reviews said it made the skin oily, and mine already is. The moisturizer I do use is Aveenos Daily Moisturizing Lotion(in a green and beige bottle), and that works well for any dryness I do get.

If you are frustrated with your skin, give this a try. It won't clear everything up in a week, but it makes your skin look a lot better after just a few days. I am going to continue with this regimen for as long as it continues working for me. Once my skin is used to the treatment I am going to begin using the Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2-in-1 fight and fade gel again. This works very good for scars. Highly recommend it for those pesky little marks left behind! Don't give up on this if you don't see results right away, like anything you should stick with it for some weeks. I am very pleased with it.

Pros:

Toner removes makeup

Cons:

Dries out skin
Aggravates pimples
Doesn't clear up moderate-severe acne

I used Proactiv for more than a year, and my skin began to get increasingly dry. It felt like permanent flakes around my mouth, and I couldn't find a moisturizer, mask, or treatment that would fix it. Finally, I stopped using Proactiv because it DIDN'T clear up my acne WHATSOEVER. It simply aggravated existing pimples and smelled bad. As soon as I stopped, my skin was perfectly moisturized. Figures. The only good thing was the toner, which removes make-up. I wouldn't waste the forty dollars per month that this costs, the only people it works on is extremely mild cases. Just because celebrities endorse it DOESN'T mean it's good, clearly. None of them have acne anyways. Don't waste your time, guys.

Pros:

Clears blackheads and surface pimples quickly.

Cons:

Dries out the skin.

This product is the only thing that has actually cleared my acne. I have had horrible acne for 15 years and I found that nothing seemed to work. Deeper pimples usually take longer to disappear, I found after 2-3 weeks they started to clear properly. It does make your face dry but with an oil free moisturizer it won't become a problem. I highly recommend this item for sufferers of acne, but moisturize your skin!

Pros:

This product has helped me tremendously. large acne take a little longer to go but the little ones go almost overnight. It also prevents acne from coming on.

Cons:

Sometimes there is a little over drying but it is nothing as compared to having sore acne and marks from the acne.

I am forty nine years old and have had acne from a teenager. For the first time in all my life I have found such a product on the market that is so successful for me. I also recommended it to others, most of them were equally amazed and pleased.

Pros:

doesn't smell, works quickly, easy to use, makes skin soft

Cons:

expensive

i had large pores, whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples on my chin, nose, cheeks and forehead. i'd probably have about five or six regularly, with a few more around my period. my skin was dry and oily at the same time. basically i had no hope for this product but decided i had nothing to lose. i've been using it for a few weeks and i have not had a new pimple since. my acne usually leaves scars, and the pimples that have cleared up have left none. my skin is soft, even, and clear. my only complaint is that the refining mask does not seem to work, and my skin gets irritated if i'm out in the sun for too long.

Pros:

Dries up spots - fast.
Reveals a fresher complexion very quickly.

Cons:

A bit of tingling a few minutes after application.

I have very fair English skin and wasn't sure what to expect with this as most people have reported mild to severe irritation. Because I wanted to follow Dan's regimen, I bought a tube and I have used it for two days now. I can already see the difference - my skin just looks fresher somehow. I still have a few blemishes but there are whole swathes of healthier-looking skin to compensate for the "unwelcome visitors" - YAY! I even got a builders' wolf whistle yesterday (still didn't have the courage to look him in the eye though!). I don't know if it's because I'm moisturising immediately on top of the product (once it's settled in) but I have no redness or flaking and I would consider my skin to be very sensitive as there are a lot of products that I cannot use. So not having any side effects to this product is a mystery but I'm not complaining. Try it and see - you never know but go slow and build up. Good luck!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
