I was a walking advertisement for Proactive many years ago. I was fed up with my adult pimples and finally tried Proactive. Then i would tell everyone about how great it works. I did still get 1 or 2 pimple onces in a while, but a lot better than the 5 or 6 on my face at any one time ALL THE TIME. Then after giving birth to my second child, my skin changed suddenly. It was a lot drier. So when I used Proactive, it instantly make my skin itchy and gave me rash on my face. So I stopped using it. Now after my third child, my skin is back to oily again and prone to breakouts. So I've started using proactive again. But this time, I'm only using it once a day because I don't feel my skin is as oily as it used to be before I had kids. Using it once a day didn't give me a rash and curb the pimples significantly. Proactive works for me as long as my face is oily and have a few pimple at all times. So i think it probably tend to work better on oily skin.

Pros:

Cost, Effectiveness, Moisture, Results

Cons:

None at all

Carley's Clear and Smooth Skin have created the most HONEST working relationship with their clientele. ALL of their products do exactly as they say they will. I am soooo in love with their line and couldn't imagine putting anything else on my skin! Especially since discovering their new mineral makeup. My skin is clear and sooo fresh and healthy! Not healthy-looking, really honest-to-God healthy. The scrub and the soap togther work amazingly. In the beginning it will take a few weeks to really see results because pimples are typically forming under the skin up to 3 weeks before they emerge, it takes awhile to clear out all the pores (I saw a dermatologist a lot before finding this product, hence the smatypants speak). After 2 months I completely stopped wearing face makeup unless I was going for a night out. Everyone is unique, but I have personally recommeded Carley's line to TONS of my friends and family and they are hooked too. The lip balm, the soap, the night moisturizer, the mineral makeup, the scrub, oh my goodness I love them all! I can't believe I'm writing this big of a review haha. But seriously, with a loofah and the soap in the shower my skin actually does SQUEAK clean :) Also I am an Indoor tanner and Carley's has improved a lot of my early aging signs due to the UV exposure (thank goodness). I wish the best of luck always to Steve Wills and his family and I hope these products always remain in production because I would have a permanent *panic attack* without them. Use it consistently and follow the directions and I promise you will fall in love as I have xo

Pros:

Extremely effective, gel form, inexpensive (per ounce)

Cons:

Redness, dryness.

Simply a phenomenal product. Obvious side effects are some redness and dryness, especially with folks that have dry skin (like me), but you stay clear. I know that when I use Dan's BP, my face will be clear in the morning. Supernatural stuff. Don't forget to moisturize!

Pros:

Nothing that I noticed.

Cons:

Doesn't work, makes skin worse.

I should've known when I bought the starter kit that it wouldn't work when the sales lady said your skin will flare up really badly before it gets better. I've used prescription acne creams and other various formulas that have worked with varying degrees of success and never has my skin acted up so badly as when I started using the Proactiv system Maybe I should have stuck it out and waited to see if it did improve, but my skin looked terrible for the 2 weeks I used it. Large, painful zits that weren't like the others I've had. My acne is light to moderate, but I looked terrible after Proactiv. Had much better, faster results with the Kiehl's Blue moisturizer.

Pros:

It works. It's natural. It's vegan. It's relatively inexpensive. It smells good. Customer service is outstanding. I LOVE it and I will continue purchasing it.

Cons:

In my case, it took a little while to start working but I love the formula so much that I stuck it out. $8 shipping is kinda pricey but if you get a lot of stuff at one time it makes it worth it.

I purchased the original formula around the end of Jan but by mid-March I wasn't seeing enough improvement so I purchased the industrial strength formula and in late Mar I am seeing results. I also use their daytime and night time moisturizer, Regenerations moisturizer, and natural bar soap...all of which I LOVE!! An excellent buy and I definitely recommend buying it. I got my boyfriend hooked on it and he's a hard sell.

Pros:

Big bottle lasts a while, natural soap and sample moisturizes come with it

Cons:

I believe the product changed

I've been using this product for about a year now. This last time I received my bottle, as soon as I put it on, it smelt and had a different texture. In the past, I have had great luck with the product and it cleared up my skin nicely. Since I gotten this bottle, I've been breaking out soooo badly. I sent an email asking if the product changed, and they said no and even sent me a new bottle, I've been using it for a few days and am still breaking out. Has anyone else noticed a difference in the product?!?

Pros:

Eliminates acne faster then any other brand.
Inexpensive.

Cons:

Causes dryness, which is expected with aggressive acne treatments.

I suffer from adult acne. I try to switch to lighter face washes and my skin breaks out bad. I'm back using it now and it is already eliminating the acne. I like how one user said, "no frills". There are no fancy smells, cucumbers, great packaging, just the 10% benzyl. When I constantly use this product I have close to no acne.

Pros:

Smooth skin, not necessarily pimple-free though
All natural
AMAZING customer service
Great pricing

Cons:

Everything else
Scars your skin
Bigger cysts begin to develop under your skin
Doesn't feel like it, but scratches your skin and damages

Honestly, all the bad reviews that people left seem to be the only ones that are valid

I broke out even more after using this, and though it may have gotten rid of pimples, where the pimples once were, were dark, deep scars that wouldn't go away even after 3 months. It was as if it just scratched it off. I did give it time, as they told me to be patient over and over, but just didn't work for me. Hoped for the miracle everyone promised it would be, but good luck to you if you try it!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
