Pros:

helps clear
smells good

Cons:

your skin gets immune to it then it stops working after a month or so

this product never fully cleared my face, but it definitely helped keep it under control for about two months. after two months my face just became immune to it the same way proactiv did. fail...not worth the price paid. baking soda works better than this! and its like 99cents

Pros:

helps with blackheads

Cons:

Drys out your skin

I wanted to write a post because I had tried everything in the past. About 9-8 months ago I started breaking out so bad all over my face. I tried proactive, RX washes, RX pills etc. Turns out... It was my birthcontrol. I was taking loestrin 24 which caused my face to break out with acne all over. I finally figured it out and switch my pill and my acne is gone. So ladies if you are on the pill you might want to look into chaning it!

Pros:

...um. It doesn't smell bad.

Cons:

I don't know if I'm allergic to it or something, but it BURNED my skin. I put it on...lalalala....1 hour later My face was RED. I rushed to CVS to buy some Clear & Clear cleansing thing to wash off the clearasil and washing off Clearasil BURNED and I almost cried.

It..burned my skin. and BTW...Who would pay um more than $10 for this. You're cray cray.

Pros:

none

Cons:

everything

I had severe deep ance on both my cheeks and desperately wanted all the little stuff to go away hoping that after all the little stuff cleared up i could then focus on the big stuff. After five months i saw little change in my acne. i still got those little annoying break outs regularly and god forbid i missed a day because my face would freak out. i started to realize that this stuff wasn't HEALING my acne it was just holding it in. My pores actually were getting bigger. so i stopped and went to a dermatologist. To sum it up, if you have tried every face wash, cream, zit zapper, mask, bar, scrub like i have and they didn't work, proactive WILL not work for you either. none of these things have enough benzol peroxide in them. You need a face wash with 10% benzol peroxide in it i would highly recommend Panoxyl, it cleared my skin instantly.

Pros:

Works Quickly
Available locally
Cheap!
Effective
Clears blackheads!
Skin clears up in about 3 weeks

Cons:

Can really dry out patches of your face if applied too often
The dry patches take about a week to heal up

I have had acne for now nearly 2 years after having my son, I developed food allergies. I noticed that wheat is the worst thing for my skin but have found that even having lime juice and cheese makes things so much worse. I went raw vegan for a few weeks and my skin cleared up very quickly but it was very hard to eat like that all the time. I have tried everything for acne, take supplements like pure bio zinc 30. At night I would even use this as a paste on my skin it helped but didn't stop the acne. I've tried lemon juice, honey masks and natural clay etc I was so upset and fed up I thought for £3 I would just try the Panoxyl, nothing to lose. I cleansed my skin with loccitane rice cleanser, and used witch hazel after so skin was very clean. I originally applied the gel to the areas of acne like it says to do, but every quickly it burnt my skin and the patches came up. Everyone was telling me not to use it again but I stopped until the patches went away. So a week after I started using it again at night only and my skin has dramatically improved, I can't believe it. I have tried everything to solve my acne and this really has changed my skin. I have been using it for 3 weeks now and I would say by week 6 my skin will be completely clear! Looks really great!!! I cannot recommend this enough but be careful! I use a cotton bud and dot a tiny amount on each spot. Takes about 5 minutes but its worth it!!

Pros:

None

Cons:

Smells awful, dry skin

I will never buy again, it smelled awful, but I used it for awhile so my skin would get used to the product and hopefully work. What a waste of time that was, I feel like it's the reason my skin is so dry now, it made my acne worse, made my face look all flaky, and now I'm so nervous about trying products.

Pros:

No more melia
Clear, clean skin

Cons:

It burns, but not really bad.
I've bleached lots of towels and the collar on a pair of pajamas. You can buy BP-resistant towels now so that's a nice thing.

I love this product! I have always had, and I mean ALWAYS, melia (little white, raised "pimples") on the sides of my nose. I would scrub and scub to try to get rid of them, but it would always come back right away. I haven't had any melia since I started using this product! It's so liberating. (My dad has it too so I guess it's genetic.) The product also cleared up my skin overall. I don't get breakouts. I have nice, clear, clean-looking skin. I highly recommend it.

Pros:

Im sorry i have no pros to add does not work i would have loved to give a 0 but it wouldnt let me!

Cons:

This has got to be the WORST acne treatment i have ever used!! After 3 days of following the directions to a T,i woke up to a rash covering my entire face, my face looked horrible n hurt! I took benedryl as directed by doctor n was told to put cold compresses on my face....a day later my face is on fire, covered.in a rash n dry n cracking...i was told its considered a.chemical burn. I hope.this.does not do permeant damage to my face!

Do not ever use this treatment....spend the extra money n get proactiv!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
