Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

It helps with existing acne, keeps face soft.

Cons:

Doesn't prevent acne from forming, needs to be used consistently, not the best smelling product

I noticed a difference in a week after i started using it. It made most of my pimples either go away completely, or made them much smaller. I'm not really all that happy with how it smelled, but it could have been a lot worse. I love how my skin feels after I use it, it's so soft!

Pros:

It makes your skin soft
it helps reduce pimples and clears skin

Cons:

It only works for about 2 months
acne and pimples come back

It is good up until 2 months then your skin gets used to it and acne pimples stress and problems start to come back

Pros:

OMG worst product ever i put it on next morning i HAD A RED face of marks on my forhead and checks and every where...

Cons:

Nope its deffenitlyy the worst product ever .. never will use Clean and clear again.

Its supposed 2 reduce redness but made every pimple GLoW Red and Dry and i cant even cover it up .. anyways bottom line they do this for you to try there secondary product. Just try Natural stuff. Because chemicals will just make your face worse and even if it did work you will have to apply it for the rest of your life so they make money and if u dont apply it you will have the worst face.

Pros:

Didn't cause excessive dryness

Cons:

Didn't really make acne disappear and did not see a difference in 8 hours or 2 weeks either

Was disappointed as far as a Neutrogena product. I thought it would be more reliable.

Pros:

scrubbing beads

Cons:

redness, burning, not much help

worked a little but for the most part left my skin red and still prone to breakouts - was hoping it'd live up to the stress prone breakouts (which i have) but didnt seem to do that

Pros:

Clean feeling, really does unclog pores, smells great, skin becomes smoother, does NOT dry out your skin

Cons:

if your skin gets too used to it then it stops working

i like it, i think it works great

Pros:

Helps somewhat but not worth the price.

Cons:

This stuff stinks badly!!

I bought this product like a dummy hoping it would raise a sunken acne scar. What a joke, it will not take that away. I tried it anyhow and it wont fill in the missing skin. I used it for hyperpigmentation as well. It doesnt do much. Not worth the price. Lemon juice is alot cheaper and would be more effective. I think its for red marks after the acne subsides. Overall, the products sucks. It does soften the scars but doesnt do much else. You have to apply it 2x a day and you will only see results after about a month of applying it as it says on the box.

Pros:

Gets rid of dirt on pores

Cons:

Only gets rid of dirt on pores

It does a real good job of getting the dirt off the pores, however it really isn't much of a medication, so you should continue to use another medication that is meant to clear acne, not just the pores.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
