Pros:

Clears up acne including cysts fairly quickly.

Cons:

Acne comes back once you stop. Doesn't do much for me when it comes to body acne.

While on minocycline my acne clears up 95%, having only small pimples that last a day or two. It does a great job of getting rid of the terrible cysts I get around my mouth/jawline. It keeps me clear for a few months but acne does return; though not nearly as bad as it was before. Unfortunately it hasn't done much for me when it comes to body acne.

Pros:

Cleared Acne
Cheap

Cons:

Nothing really
Got a small breakout during the course

It totally worked, i took it for 3 months, my acne was gone except some redness which goes away itself, I got a small breakout when i was about to stop it, but it was because i ate many greasy foods and eggs in which i have a kind of allergy.

Pros:

Acne clears up
Less oiliness

Cons:

Appetite increases
Skin feels raw

I started to break out HORRIBLY around December 2010. Before that I had virtually clear skin. I tried Philosophy, Proactiv, and other over the counter products, and nothing worked. I finally gave up and went to the dermatologist because the giant pimples on my face were unbearable and brought me to tears because of how painful they were. He put me on this antibiotic, and also gave me this Retin-A Micro cream. In about 2 months, my skin completely cleared up! Although, my face is now scarred with hyperpigmentation :(. The scars are slowly going away. I'm just so thankful that I'm not in pain anymore. I can actually smile. I almost feel like myself again. The only downside I've noticed from this medicine, is that it makes me extremely hungry. Ever since I started taking this, I have this huge appetite for salty, greasy foods. I don't particularly want any sweets. I feel like I've gained a couple pounds, but I've tried to keep up on my exercising so I don't balloon up. So far, I've been on this for 3 and a half months. I want to stop taking this so I can slim back down, but I'm scared my skin might explode again! Overall, if you are suffering not just from severe acne, but a full blown skin infection like me, take this. It does wonders.

Pros:

Cleared up breakout and existing acne.
Less redness.
Fast working.

Cons:

Scars are still there.

I had a huge breakout on my cheeks, around my mouth and nose. I started freaking out, so I went to my primary doctor and she prescribed me this along with epiduo. In just three days, my face was less red from the acne and the acne itself has gone down. I have not experienced any symptoms maybe because I'm drinking like 8 bottles of water each day.

Pros:

Clears skin!
Cheap with my insurance

Cons:

Took about a month to notice results

My acne was severe. I had a very bad flare up that consisted of painful, under the skin, acne. My dermatologist gave me this and it cleared my skin in a month. Now just waiting for red marks to fade.

Pros:

-stops almost all new acne from forming
-no more acne since starting it
-no side effects for me, idk if im lucky or just normal

Cons:

-I will eventually have to come off it
-Pain in the A** taking it without having food in my body for awhile

Drink LOTS of WATER while on this pill and you will likely see no side effects. I've been on it for about 2 weeks now, maybe 1 1/2 but its kept me clear for now. I have maybe 2-3 bit zits a week on average so i guess its pretty good. Note: i drink at least 64 oz. of water a day, Bottom line, Drink lots of water when you take it and during the day and you should see no side effects.

Pros:

Works for some.
Pretty safe compared to stuff like accutane...Bleh.

Cons:

Stomach burns a little and changed eating schedule, but just man up.

Alot of the problems people post on here are Probably not caused by minocycline. How can an antibiotic mess up your emotions? Yellowing teeth should only happen to kids under 14 who's teeth haven't even developed yet. Yes its a temporary fix, what do you expect? One magic pill wont cure acney forever...without messing up your whole body. Many people here have other problems besides acney. Eat yogurt during the day to help with any side effects. If you take it with other topical creams it works really well, please dont expect one pill to fix up acney. Shouldn't effect oil since its purpose is to kill acney bacteria.

Pros:

Basically everything.
It's the first thing to actually work.

Cons:

Nothing.

I've tried everything. But this is the only one that actually works. Sure, it took a month or so, but it was totally worth it. I don't really have big acne. just looks of small ones. But not any more. only a few tiny ones that i really don't care about seeing as it used to be a whole lot worse. i've been on 100mg a day for 1.5 months now and i'm so happy. I don't want to be too quick to review just incase it does get worse again so so far i'm happy. My skin is a lot smoother and Waking up in the morning is no longer a time where i have to look in the mirror and moan. I've seen a lot of reviews about side effects, which is bad but i have had none. although the first time i took it i felt a little bit dizzy, but nothing i couldn't get over in 10 seconds.

Pros:

Clears acne

Cons:

None really

I took this a year ago and was on a really low dosage (50mg) and it cleared my acne right away and I had no pimples. I went off of it and tried something else but when I went to college my acne got really bad so my dermatologist put me back on it however now 100mg twice a day but it didn't work like it had before except when I took both doses at the same time and now my acne is almost all cleared up. Yay! Acne sucks

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
