Pros:

helps get rid of the nodules and redness, however using a topical cream really helps knocking out the rest!

Cons:

some nausea

minicycline helps if you take it at the same time everyday i am using this medication alog with diffren gel which works better than just the antibiotic alone.

Pros:

less breakouts after a week and a half of taking.
After stopping i didn't start breaking out bad again for a couple weeks.

Cons:

I was on Minocycline twice a day before i had some kind of allergic reaction. It basically happened over night. All over body aches...swollen hands and feet, some joint pain, mainly all over muscle soreness and stiffness. There wasn't a muscle in me that didn't ache in some way. I stopped the medication because my dr. thought it was related to the minocycline. He put me on naproxen and vicodin because I literally could not get out of bed without extreme pain.
He then sent me to a rheumatologis

I had a bad reaction to minocycline which is weird because i was on it when i was a teenager with no issues. It works great, just be forewarned that reactions can happen..and they can be very serious.

Pros:

1) See results within a month
2) Cleared cystic acne

Cons:

1) Results only last 2-3 months, then you're immune.

Profile: 28 yr old female South Asian Poor Diet Moderately Sever Acne/ Mainly cystic acne around chin/neck I was on Minocycline 200mg/day for 3 months only because that's as long as the results last. By the 4th month you should find something else to use. My derma said this is a beginner antibiotic. However it is stronger than Doxycyle but the results def. do not last long.

Pros:

Started clearing my skin as little as 2 weeks.

Cons:

Made me nauseas after taking it for a week.

Might work for you, because it did work, just made me extremely nauseas for hours and vomit. Can't wait to be off it and on something new. 100 mg x2 a day.

Pros:

Cleared up skin for the most part, but... TRY VITAMIN D FIRST!

Cons:

Acne returned upon discontinued use
Dizziness and an odd detached from self sort of feeling (only lasted for the first week or two)

While I was happy with the fact that it cleared up my skin, I found a much better regime that is natural, safer, and seems to get to the root of the problem: TRY VITAMIN D!!! I have been taking 4,000 IU daily as well as using a Clairsonic exfoliator twice daily and it has been the best thing I have tried yet. I get very little sun where I live which means I get very little vitamin D, and I believe this to be the cause of my acne. I now get very few pimples now and then that last only a day or two. Upon a little research, it seems that many have found this same thing to work for their skin, so I would strongly recommend you try this before resorting to harsh antibiotics that have severe side effects. Also, it is much much cheaper; about $6.00 for a bottle that will last you months. I say, always try the natural method first! I am a strong believer that there is a natural remedy for most anything, and have little trust in the big drug companies and am suspicious that they collude for 'business'.

Pros:

Keeps my skin somewhat clear
Doesnt Bother my stomach

Cons:

DIZZINESS!
LIGHTHEADED!

I was using doxycycline with 2 creams and that cleared my skin up drastically but not those little bumps all over my cheeks and forehead but got rid of cystic- my dr said try this to see if it clears it all up. The doxy made me throw up and this does not bother my stomach however I get severly lightheaded and dizzy and totally out of it. I have more pimples now than when I was using the doxy and I would rather have stomach aches then deal with these side effects. Overall Im trying whatever my dr tells me until I find what works.

Pros:

Turns cystic acne to small bumps and white heads, clears some acne, makes breakouts less severe

Cons:

Sometimes made me dizzy and nauseas, but nothing serious, you still get breakouts while on the treatment

I have pretty bad acne. I have small to medium bumps all over my forehead and cheeks. The first couple of weeks, the results were great. All my larger acne bumps turned into small white heads and small bumps, and i thougt in a week or so my skin would be completley clear. Then, when i got my period, the time i usually breakout the most, all the progress and improvement in my skin just went away ): i broke out badly so im back to where i started. Im still using minocycline, hopefully it will improve my skin again. If not, i think im gonna use accutane.

Pros:

It helped out with my back and chest acne, but it hasn't completely cleared it up

Cons:

Blurred vision
Depression
Dizziness
Change in my... reactions, idk... i get scared more easily
I cant feeekin fall asleep at night!! It is just
soooo hard
I dont see any results on my face

I take 200mg of this stuff, and it barely helps Im really scared of getting those more serious side effects, im worried about that I feel more depressed and thats a problem, because i dont feel the same anymore and all of a sudden my mind is filled with the negative things about life. Its hard to go to school. Life feels hard to deal with now.... I have been on differin gel, clyndamycin phospate lotion, this, and prednisone My derma will soon prescibe accutane and see how it works out for me... i really hope it works, i heard very good reviews, but im scared of the sideffects Hope my acne gets better....

I've been on 200mg a day for a month and it's cleared all my whiteheads. Still get normal acne of just bumps though. My doctor said I could upgrade 50 mg a day but there's just no way I could with all the constant dizziness I have now....

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
