Pros:

I take Dynacin. My skin looks amazing, clear and acne free!

Cons:

I get nauseous, fatigued, get headaches and joint and muscle pain, blurred vision…
I can’t tan. Its expensive, $50 deductible with my health insurance. If you don’t have health insurance, it will cost you about $600.

Price wise, you get what you pay for. You will feel like'well, you get the idea. But take heart! Lol you will look amazing! And that's the honest truth you friends, but lately I've been having some difficulty breathing and that's beginning to scare me' I think I will be having some serious discussion with my dermatologist in the near future and that is the reason I am doing some research on long term affects of all types of acne medication. Make sure you know what you are putting in your body. I will most def. consider using Retin A cream alone, herbal remedy, healthy diet, stress management, exercise, taking care of my body and skin, vitamins, supplements

Cons:

This made me very dizzy from the beginning but you can kind of ignore it.

I was only Minox for a week when I started getting an allergic reaction to it so I had to come off it but I didn't notice any improvement to my skin because I obviously wasn't on it long enough.

Pros:

got rid of acne while i was taking it.

Cons:

acne seems to be coming back now that i've stopped taking it.

i would like to try something else considering the fact you must avoid sun exposure while on it.

Pros:

Cleared up my moderate acne. I had PERFECT skin for a couple months (this was probably more because of the SUN of summertime and CLINDOXYL).

Cons:

Your body gets used to it. When you stop it comes back worse. Makes you feel lazy/dizzy.

I have been taking Minocin for about 1 year. I have now decided that my PERFECT SKIN all last summer (and many months after summer) was NOT because of Minocin but mainly because of CLINDOXYL!! and Sunlight. I understand that sunlight does long-term damage to your skin but I think it gave me PERFECT skin for a couple months!! The BOTTOM LINE w. ANTIBIOTICS such as this is that you keep having to up the dosages, and you cannot stop taking it. This is not healthy for you. I want to stop taking this before I get too deep into this unhealthy self-perpetuating cycle. I'm 18, hopefully my acne will clear up w. time. For now, SUNLIGHT is AMAZING and CLINDOXYL is the best treatment of all. I may take a year off school and go South. The winter makes my skin terrible.

Pros:

Clears up persistent body acne within about a month.

Cons:

Antibiotic resistance can develop with on/off use; predisposes your skin to phototoxic rash from sunlight exposure.

Minocycline is a bacterioSTATIC drug; it does not kill the bacteria responsible for acne, it only keeps the populations at bay. Once you go off this drug, your skin will get worse again. Use BP in conjunction with Minocycline to kill the bacteria as well. The effectiveness of mino has all but diminished for me, so I don't take it anymore.

Pros:

It really hasn't worked for me yet in 21 days have been on Minocycline for 21 days and my skin worsened w/ a bad breakout 7 days after starting. Now, I am waiting for my acne to disappear.

Cons:

I get upset an upset stomach if I drink milk accidentally w/out a 2 hour nterval

I am giving it a try. If I get no results at the end of my 2 month period, I will ask my dermatologist for Accutane. I read Vilante has less side effects.I do modeling and need quick results.

Pros:

Clears up your face for a couple of weeks and then its back to the same old ish. It would be clear for one week, then the next week I would have pimples and I was combining this with Differin.

Cons:

I never saw any changes and I was on it for about 4 months. I dont even think it did jack, because my face was still breaking out. I ran out of this medicine and was only using differin and my face cleared right up.

Its dissapointing but my doc put me on Doxycycline and Ive been on that for about a week. Acne is a real pain in the ass and I wish I never inherited the stupid disease. It makes me feel self-conscious and it makes me angry to think that anybody may be judging me. I hate acne and everything to do with it. I hope the kids that i have dont ever have to go through this.

Pros:

Works well and is easy to use. Side effects are minimum. Not too expensive.

Cons:

Took a while for it to really kick in. My acne gradually got better. Although results are expected within 6 weeks my case took about 10.

The bottom line is Minocycline is a great product. If it doesn't work at first stick with it for a while. Results may come slowly.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
