Pros:

It helped to clear up my acne within the first week I took it

Cons:

It is difficult to find the time to take it if you are busy, like myself because you have to take it one hour before eating or 2-3 after eating.

I didn't have any side affects but I have some friends who felt dizzy and had nasea. If you have severe acne, I would recommend something else. But for those of us with the occasional breakouts on our face, this product will work for you

Pros:

It worked the first two weeks I was on it.

Cons:

Stopped working after about two-three weeks. Dizzy, stomach aches, headaches, etc.

I've been taking this for about a month now and I'm not impressed. It cleared up my acne the first two-three weeks but now I have small red bumps everywhere with pimples popping up here and there. I certainly do not want to take this forever . . . I've called my doc to see what he recommends.

Pros:

Somewhat effective against acne

Cons:

Upset stomach, can't take 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating, caused serious side effects for me

This was the first medication my dermatologist put me on. It caused serious respiratory problems for me so I was immediately taken off after about 3 weeks of use. It seemed to be working somewhat effectively aside from my side effects. The upset stomach problem is very common as well is dizziness and disorientation, both of which I also experienced.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin.

Cons:

Started making me nauseous after a while, and my skin got severely worse after stopping.

You have to take it indefinitely, and along with the bad stuff it kills some of the healthy bacteria in your body. That's the danger with antibiotics.

Cons:

I developed a severe allergic reaction after taking this for two weeks. My face is extremely swollen, I have a stiff neck and a high temperature. I think it has sensitized my face to creams.

Still don't know how long the swelling will take to go down. Wouldn't touch it again

Pros:

no side effects, wasnt too hard to take or get, stopped most breakouts, insurance paid for it alllll babeh

Cons:

stopped the breakouts but didnt improve much

ive always had a bit of acne but only stuff i could really notice cuz I'm a freak about my skin, im 16 now and this summer was when i started getting acne where i never did before which really bothered me, so i told my mom to take me to the doctor and they gave me minocycline,i was on this drug for about 9 weeks, and within the first 2 weeks i saw some results and some people even said my skin looked great, my skin isn't too bad in the first place but its one of my top priorities, and its always on my mind. my progress just stopped so i kept taking it with minimal results, i dont know if my dose was too low but i was taking 50mg twice a day. so ive recently been to the derm and instead of uping my dose he just prescribed me accutane, i didnt know my skin was bad enough for that but i guess any level can take it. we will see how it goes though wish me some LUCK! oh and ill recommend it cuz its worth a try right.

Pros:

Cleared a little of my acne I THINK.

Cons:

Can't eat before or after medicine...

I think it helped; however, my regime contains both retin-A and Cleocin-T gel. The first week after using it, my skin got worse! it was HORRIBLE!!!! I skipped school for a week, before my skin actually got better. I looked like a burn victim for at least a week... Hopefully this will help clear my acne. I see SOME improvements though.

Pros:

Stoped acne from flaring up as much.

Cons:

I took this for a long time(about 6- 8 months) i took 2 a day which appears to be too much compared to the other reviews. Towards the end of the use it did not effect my ance at all and i developed a yeast infection in my genital area.

maybe works for about a month or two but after that not worth it.

Pros:

Minocycline keeps pimples at bay but doesn't quite completely clear skin if you have moderately severe acne lesions.

Cons:

You break out worse than ever once you stop taking the drug. For naturally tanned people (olive skin), it causes a blue-gray pigmentation on the skin which may occur on the face, or body because of increased skin sensitivity to the sun.

After beginning this medication, in a matter of days, my skin lost his lustre/glow - I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. When the dermatologist told me that tetracyclines when used long-term may cause hyperpigmentation, I was horrified. I quit the drug after 2 months of taking it and my face has broken out like never before. I was better off having not taken minocycline because I could actually look at myself in the mirror before. My dermatologist has now prescribed Accutane after taking a look at my skin after using this.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
