Pros:

Easy to use one pill in the morning and one pill in the evening. Currently taking 50mg pill. Cheap using generic.

Cons:

Absorption is usually decreased by 20% if taken with food especially dairy products, as it is a tetracycline derivative. I try to take it on an empty stomach, so it's harder to manage when considering meals throughout the day.

I have been using it for over a year and have actually stopped for a period until going back. During the time off I did break out more especially when eating foods that are high in Saturated fat like chocolate. With this medication there is an improvement, but I still have to manage my diet and lifestyle.

Pros:

For the most part does what it's supposed to do. Cheap if you have insurance, mine covered it.

Cons:

None so far...I could be picky and say it's not 100% effective but I'm nowhere near the full process taking time yet.

If you are thinking about trying it, just do it because it just might work for you. Since starting I'd say 95% of my acne has gone away, and to my surprise very fast. I only have one pimple on my nose right now and I'm hoping it will go away soon too. For those worried about the possible bad side effects I would say not to worry, I've had none thankfully, and hopefully won't. I realize things work different for all of us, but if you were like me and just got sick of your acne (though I will admit mine was light) don't hesitate to try this.

Pros:

Works very well. Cleared my face up completely, no side effects for me, besides a few stomach aches. Still worth it.

Cons:

The occasional stomach ache. and the first time i used it I had a weird fungus growing on my gums but another presription healed that.

It works well, but my acne wasn't that bad either. I'm back on it probably only for a few months because my acne was getting bad here for awhile. So try it out, but i've heard that long term use isn't so good.

Pros:

it worked amazingly. i have bad acne all over my face, espically my cheeks and chin and now my cheeks have completely cleared up and my chin is much clearer than before.

Cons:

you do break out worse than usual when you start it and it tastes nasty but its worth it

i started out hating it because it tastes bad, and my acne just kept getting worse, but after about 4 weeks i started to notice my acne going away slowly, and after awhile my skin was completely clear- you do get the random pimple here and there but its not big deal. i did hear that after a long time of using this product your skin turns silver, but i highly doubt it.

Pros:

-Increased Appetite. (i know its supposed to do the opposite)
-Free with insurance.

Cons:

No real side effects. First day had a bit of nausea. The next 5 i was completly fine.

Increased my appetite, even though it is supposed to do the exact opposite. It's good for me because i need to gain weight, and during the past 6 days i have gained 8 pounds. -Made skin less pale. I am a fairly light skinned person and often look ridicilously pale, especially at night if i am tired. However because my skin became more photosensitive i was able to get somewhat of a tan. I know its dangerous to stay in the sun with this medication without sunscreen, but if you're in it very briefly it should be fine. - HAS NOT done much for my acne. In fact it has gotten worse so far. But i think the main reason why that has happened is because of the Styevemacin gel i am using. Plus i do hear that it gets worse before it gets better. I just hope it doesn't take 3 months, like some people here are saying. Just thought id post a question. Did anybody here use the Styevemacyn gel? I was prescribed the gel with this medication but i find it only makes my sk

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
