Pros:

I have suffered with acute acne to cystic acne almost 35 years. My face looks awesome, no spots or boils. AT ALL. HOwever I am also on Differin .3 and Finacea and Benz Perox wash as well as a glycolic wash plus a mud/vinegar mask

Cons:

I have never had a weight problem in my life but now I have gained 30 pounds. I was always skinny so the weight actually doesn't look bad, but I am still gaining & can not stop without stopping meds.

Everyone reacts differently to medications. For me and my above mentioned cocktail this works. I am not in pain nor horribly embarrassed as has been the case for so very many years

Pros:

It starts working right away if it's the medication for your system (my acne didn't respond to Doxycycline, all the topicals, etc.). Worked well in adolescence and just started it less than a week ago and it's cleared up more than 50%.

Cons:

It kind of makes me feel nauseated at times and it is an antibiotic so it kills all the good bacteria in your stomach. It is tolerable and I took it for over a year without any side effects.

it seems to have jump started my acne recovery (yet again) and is giving me hope!

Pros:

Works.Cleared up pustules made by retin-a (fights in conjunction).clears up redness. works mega fast. within 3 weeks all my pustules were heading on down yippy cay yay.now its a matter of time.

Cons:

none! dont complain about drinking loads of water because it will only help ur acne! pff. also you better follow the directions on the bottle! take on empty stomach and it means EMPTY in your small intestines too! or this will not be digested correct

will work if you do it right. will save ur face. will work fast. will not give you stomach pains if you drink that water. will work wonders on redness, pustules and give you your smile back. i had took doryx which wasnt for me and this is what did work for me. you know what antibiotics work if you are noticably getting better and noticably not getting more pimples too dramaticaly. i am using it in conjunction with retin-a, and finacea gel. GoodLuck and i do highly recommend you find out what works for you. i did not suffer anywhere near vertigo or stomach pains. does kinda make you have a small loss of apetite which is good for me LOL. :D dont give up.

Pros:

Works very well with little side effects.

Cons:

Is not permanent

I took this for almost three years in highs school and I remember it working really well, however, after a while the effects began to wear off. My Dr. put me back on it two months ago after five years off and it cleared me of active pimple in almost two weeks. I now only get maybe one pimple a week which is really good for me. Try it, it might work for you too!

Pros:

Started to clear my skin in about a month, completely clear after 3.

Cons:

Kind of expensive (not with insurance), scary to take with birth control.

GREAT! Take it, you will feel great.
July 17, 2008

Pros:

Cleared skin completely, have had no further break-outs

Cons:

The very first 5 days I experienced lightheadedness, however, it subsided and I have not had any side effects since.

I would DEFINITELY recommend this product. I will admit it was tough fighting through the lightheadedness the first five days or so, however, I stuck with it and let my body get used to it. Do NOT stop taking it if you are lightheaded, it will only take longer for your body to adapt. My story is that I had developed cystic acne after starting work and it cleared up completely within a month of being on minocycline. I have now been on it for 4 months and have not had even one more pimple. I go to my dermatologist once a month and she is recommending I stay on it for a couple more months to be safe. I am also using Retin-A, Duac, and Lustra which are all creams or gels that I recommend. Your dermatologist should have samples of all of those creams for you to try.

Pros:

Cleared up my acne immediately after a week. I've been on it for about a year with only a few pimples here and there.

Cons:

Can cause diarrhea
Pimples come back as soon as you stop taking it

I'm curious what the long-term effects are if I take it for the rest of my life. I'm only 25

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
