Pros:

-Easy packaging for travel/after gym
-Low dose of benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) doesn't dry/irritate face
-It works!

Cons:

-Hard to find in drug stores
-discontinued ! :(

I absolutely LOVE this product! It worked wonders on my skin. I used it once at night after cleansing to get rid of all left over makeup. It helped get rid of dirt, bacteria, makeup, and dead skin cells. This product was very gentle on my skin and never caused it to be irritated. I have used several other pads but have not found one that was as effective and that has benzoyl peroxide instead of salicylic acid. Hopefully this product will come back!

This works!! I'm 25 and I've battled with acne for a couple of years but it got worse after I quit birth control pills in December. My skin went through explosions of breakouts this summer over a period of 2 months. I had at least 5-6 new zits every day. It was horrible, I could barely leave the house. Makeup couldn't hide the bumps on my skin. Even my parents looked at me with pity because my face was covered with whiteheads and cysts on the jawline, cheeks, chin and forehead. The zits on my forehead subsided before starting on the BP treatment but I still got these pesky clusters of pimples on my cheeks, temples and jawline. So while I was planning my new skin regimen, Dan's treatment came to my mind. I was on the treatment for mild acne in the past when I was 16 but I quit because I had just started on the birth control pills so my skin improved and I didn't need the BP. I'm on Day 16 of the BP treatment and my skin has massively improved and I don't have these awful bumps on my skin anymore. My skin has returned to a matte/normal look - no more oily cheeks, nose and forehead! I'm using Desert Essence Tea Tree cleanser for Oily/Combination skin and Emu oil as moisturizer. I still have a couple of pimples but they're quickly going away. My face is pretty robust so I've already upped the amount to a full-length (not so generous though) and only spot treat during the day. My skin hardened during the first week and then it started peeling. My face is quite flaky and it seems like a new old layer of skin is constantly coming off. But I'm happy it does because it has helped peel away my old red marks! I only have faint traces of pimple marks left. The newest marks are quickly fading - I think it's because the BP shortens the healing process of the pimples, reducing the scars. Looking forward to more peeling actually! I work from home so I don't have to go out often. My confidence is slowly but surely coming back! Thanks Dan for giving

Pros:

Works really well
Cleared up my acne quickly
Much cheaper than other things I tried
Also helps with ingrown chin hairs
Sinks in quickly

Cons:

I have slight flakiness around the outside of my eyes even though I don't put the Treatment there. I consider this a minor con and its easily fixed with a drop or two of jojoba.

I started the regime using "on the spot", Cetaphil Cleanser and Cetaphil Moisturizer. I was thrilled that it worked and worked quite quickly. I love Cetaphil so I've decided to stick with those products but for convenience I decided to order a tube of the 2.5% BP Treatment from acne.org and it works so much better. It sinks into my skin better, its not as white as the on the spot cream and I find it gentler (or maybe my skin became more accustomed to the BP). I find the acne.org treatment gel cost effective and great on my skin.

Pros:

Gets rid of acne and prevents new acne...for the most part.

Cons:

bleaches my hair, makes my skin feel extremely tight, never fails to make my skin shiny all day, burns, causes my skin to get red and itchy whenever i sweat, you have to take it 3 times a day or else you will severely breakout.

Dont ever get this product. You would highly regret it...trust me. I have been using this for over a year now because there is no other medication that really works for me, but thats besides the point. This has made my brown hair completely blonde in the front, made my skin feel as if it were trapped underneath of a mask all day long, made my skin awfully oily and shiny and wherever i go, people ask me why my face is so shiny and ask me if i have highlights in my hair and im sick of it. If you are EXTREMELY desperate to get rid of acne, buy this product, since its your only hope but if you just have average to minor acne, dont get it.

Gives you acne

I'm shocked this stuff has so many positive reviews. Well I was sucked in by them and used Carlys for a little over 2 months and my skin broke out worse then it ever has in my life!! I followed the directions exactly using the washcloths and my skin just got worse and worse and worse the longer I used it!! I kept using it hoping my skin would turn around and it would clear up as they say it takes a while but that never happened. I went back on Dan's regimen and my skin is clear again! The only reason I went off of it was because the idea of just using one product in the shower and that's it was appealing to me. The time saving and simplicity of it drew me in. HUGE MISTAKE!! My skin is clear but I have acne scars from how bad I broke out while on Carleys.

Pros:

-Affordable
-Not too abrasive on sensitive skin
-Convenient packaging (water doesn't leak in while using in the shower)

Cons:

-Too much fragrance

I really like this product when using it 2-3 times a week. I would not say this is an everyday cleanser. I feel that it is too harsh on my skin if used morning and night. This is more of my 'backup' when my skin starts acting up due to hormonal changes. I like that it is easily available at almost any grocery store. I am very pleased with Oxy products so far. Will continue to use.

I'm in my late 20s and I used to get severe acne on my chin. Deep, red, painful zits that would take forever to clear, and whenever they did finally start to clear another round of acne would show up. Nothing I tried would make the acne go away. I finally decided to try Proactiv. I was a little sceptical having read mixed reviews on the internet, but at this point I was desperate for anything that might work. I started the treatment about 9 months ago. I had a small break-out about a week into the treatment, but have not had a SINGLE breakout since!! This stuff works (at least for me)! I now only use it once a day (sometimes less). I am pimple free and I feel great! I definitely recommend this product!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
