Pros:

it works really well gets rid of all acne if you used it right

Cons:

dries out your skin, expensive

its expensive but worth it. if you use it every night its great but dont over do it and use it in the morning too. in the morning just wash your face and use a really good lotion and your face wont dry out and will be fine:) plus proactiv works pretty fast too my face was pretty bad and it cleared up in about 3 weeks but you have to use it every single night.. hey its worth it .. about 5-7 minutes every night and no acne? whats better than that.

Pros:

Affordable, not tested on animals, effective, great customer service. I love that everything is done in the shower so once you are finished, there is nothing else to apply or anything. I've had no problems with bleaching, which I did with Proactiv.

Cons:

For me, because I use it on my face, chest AND back, it obviously doesn't last as long. A bottle lasts me about a month so it costs the same as Proactiv did but it's still well worth it. Also, it took long to work for me (3 months) but it worked!

Let me start off by saying that this product definitely works BUT it is not a "quick fix". It took 3 months for the mild-moderate acne on my chest and back to clear up. I had been using Proactiv to treat it but it didn't seem to work so I switched to Carley's but I really had to be patient. I was still using Proactiv on my face (I had clear skin) but wanted to just use one product so I switched to Carley's for my face, too. As expected, I had an outbreak that lasted about 5-6 weeks, where I developed tons of tiny little pimples all over my forehead, my jawline, chin and nose. It was EXTREMELY frustrating but Steve explained to me why this happened and just asked that I be patient. I hung in there and it has now been about 3 months since I started it for my face and I am about 95% clear. It was really hard to stick with it but it was so worth it. Just remember to follow the directions EXACTLY or else it can delay the effectivenes. Don't give up if it takes long, IT WILL WORK!!!

Pros:

Loved this wash, got the generic and for the price, it got rid of those nasty cysts I had. I wear a mask all day, so I need something that is effective. My chin gets it the worst.

Cons:

A little drying, but it's worth it. Especially if you use it at night, by the morning, you've produced so much oil that the dryness subsides

Get this wash and try it. I've tried everything, and this works. You have to find out what works for your skin. It's so embarassing and frustrating to have acne, especially in my mid 30's. I even had someone make a rude comment to me about my skin. Now I only get good comments.

Pros:

Saw immediate results
Cheaper than proactiv

Cons:

none

I have had moderate to severe acne since i was 11 years old, i am now almost 22. So for the past 11 years I have been trying every product on the market (clearasil, neutrogena, glytone, clean and clear, anything and everything.) Nothing worked. I have been to a dermatologist many times and tried many things (tetracycline, minocycline, retin-a, etc) , though the oral medication did help, it had horrible side effects and I still had moderate acne. As I got older I developed cystic acne along my jaw line. Someone mentioned this product to me and i decided to try it, since i had tried everything.I bought the severe acne treatment. The morning after my first use I saw results. I have been using this product for about 3 months now and my face has never been so clear. I just started using the pock-mark filler and have seen excellent results in just 2 weeks. I think my search is over for an acne product that actually works. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Pros:

none, (except i got it for christmas so i didn't have to pay for it.)

Cons:

Pain, Redness, Dryness, and Worse acne.

It made my face BRIGHT RED, and it burned for over an hour. I ended up crying the whole time. I had an ice pack on my face and I layed in the dark. Also, after all the pain, my face only dried out and I got more acne that i started with. P.s. i only used a small amount. (aka. reccoment dosage.)

Pros:

I did not have horrible acne but this stuff worked for breakouts. I use it religiously twice a day and had good results

Cons:

Took about 3 weeks to see a major difference.

I will continue to use it, since i have not broke out with anything for a long time.

Pros:

Works very well - at a much better price than other over the counter products.

Cons:

the bottle ( cream ) has a weird gritty ingredient, which i can't stand. needs to be shaken well - best for spot treatment. Usage all over will produce an extremely dry almost powdery film. Can only be bought at Wal Mart.

I just started using this a few months ago, as I could not afford another similar product - I was very impressed with the results. This might work perfectly for people with light acne, but I am battling problem adult acne.

Pros:

worked quickly on my oily skin- left it clean, smooth, and clear.

Cons:

After nearly 2 years I realized that the wash was bad for my skin because it made my blackheads worse-and my skin around my nose was rough. One day i woke up and had huge, red scars on my face-it left my skin WORSE in the long run.

Do not use this product. It gives quick results but does years of damage to your skin in the long run. I'm in college now and have to deal with acne and scarring which has lowered my self-esteem. Proactive is not worth it.

Pros:

Looks pretty. I like the facial cleanser.

Cons:

If you have severe adult acne, steer clear. My face seemed to get better after a few weeks, only to divebomb into the worst breakout I've had since I was a teen. I'm still battling some big, scar-inducing ones!

If you just get the occasional pimple and want a nice easy system to maintain your face, here you go.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
