Im 13 and was struggling with acne on my back and chest for about a year. I tried a bunch of different products and nothing worked until I tried panoxyl. It cleared up my skin and completely stopped new break outs!

Pros:

Controls 'average' acne
Brings acne to their 'heads' quicker
Seemed to reduce the size of my pimples
My skin is crazy soft
Wide range of follow up products
Handy sized bottles

Cons:

It's given me embarrassingly oily skin
I'm sick of the smell
It dries out my hands and face
It makes my skin "tight, shiny and red" after cleansing.

I tried ALOT of over the counter products like many other people here, and they did barely anything for me, and I did not want to go on a medication so I decided to try acne.org products. Unfortunately the only product from that regimen that is still handy to me is the cleanser, I love it. Once I had accepted that acne.org was not working for me ( I really thought "this is the one") I turned to Proactiv. Seconds into using the cleanser (first step) I could feel my skin getting so soft and smooth, and it got me so excited. After a few uses, my pimples were smaller dots and my acne was more controlled. After a few months, I've noticed that it prevents new pimples up until my "time of the month stages" (I believe I have hormonal acne).I only have a couple "clear skin" weeks until my hormones do their thing (and I get pimples), and proactiv doesn't seem to be able to control that much. But I have confidence that it's fighting for me all month round. It also gives me incredibly shiny oily skin, even if i don't moisturise my skin will look like I had just put massage oil on my face. So right now I'm trying to control that with a moisturiser, and blotting sheets but I hate how they make my skin feel. Bottom Line: If you've tried everything, and still not satisfied with acne.org, do give it a go, Proactiv has worked the best for me out of all the other products I've been through.

Pros:

- works wonders
- cheap

Cons:

-can be drying

I want to start off by saying that I suffered for years with back acne. I tried everything... Apple cider vingar, lemon juice, sycilic acid, doctor tablets, everything. Nothing ever worked for me. After doing years of research I realized why my back was so hard to treat. The back is a very thick layer of skin that needs strong products. I strted using pan oxyl 10% and I wax sure it wouldn't work. After a week of my skin feeling extremley dry and getting worse breakouts it finally started to work. After my skin got used to it, it's now completley clear. I had the worst back acne you could imagine too. I would recommend starting off the first week using it once a day and leaving it on for 2 minutes. After that use it twice a day and leave it on for 3 minutes each time. Please try this product. Only thing that works because it's so strong.

Pros:

Really clears up the acne!

Cons:

May dry out your face.

Okay, so I've always wanted to try it since it was on TV but my mom always said that it's fake and crappy. One day, her friend recommended it to me. It dries your face out first, but that stops! ;) Oh and after a while you can use a little more step 3. And DO NOT apply the refining mask to your eyelids/ under your eyes!!! Oh, and only use the mask twice a week since it really dries skin. Well, I've been using it for 60 day and I'm almost clear!! You GOTTA give it TIME! Trust meee:D Sorry that this is so long, but it seems like my face is totally clear. You cannot see any acne on it! Before proactiv i thought a clear face would make my life soo much better, but once youre clear, the only thing is that your not embarrassed and you ARE prettier. But its not like exciting. trust me. Acne or not, light or severe: You. Are. Beautiful. !! Trust me:) Anyways, give it a try. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!! :)

Pros:

cleared skin
it works!
no chemicals
keeps new acne from forming

Cons:

occasionally stains towels and clothes
can take time to work

first of all, this is the first time ive ever taken the time to post a review of a product ive seen on this website. for years ive had light/moderate acne, it was never severe but i definitely had days where i didnt want to leave the house and i felt insecure even with makeup on. sometimes i got my face 90% clear but then i would constantly wake up with new pimples forming. the product did take some time to work but after about 3 weeks, i saw my skin getting better and better. ive used carleys for about 7 months now, every so often i may get a minor breakout(usually around my period) but carleys has significantly helped my skin and kept it clear when no other products worked. believe me i tried over 50 products over the years...yes even proactive and murad. i use the day lotion and tamanu cream (to treat any redness) with the face wash every morning and night. for any person that may be doubting any reviews the see on here about carleys...you have to understand that not every product that has good reviews is going to work for you. everyones skin is different and it will react different. while i cant promise it will work for you, i can tell you that i 100% back and believe in this product, and it has been the ONLY thing that has given me clear skin again.

Pros:

Cheap
Works fast
Leaves skin feeling soft, and clean
Continues working long after you wash

Cons:

Uncomftorable tingly sensation, long after wash (but this means, it's working)

It's really good, I've tried alot of things, and my dermatologist put me on 8% benzoyl peroxide wash, and I would use that and it would be pretty expensive around 20 dollars a tube. This is cheap, has the same ingrediants, and honestly it works better, it's a higher concentration and it keeps on working, it's a "time-release" so long after you wash it's still working. Cleared my skin really fast, definetly worth it.

Pros:

clears skin
goes on smoothly
feels good when you lather it on

Cons:

dries your skin really badly
takes time
irritated the corners of my mouth and darkened my mouth area for a while
have to keep using it

i didn't start having acne 'til my junior year of high school when i moved from california to massachusetts. i initially thought i started breaking out because of climate change. i've always had really clear/flawless skin and was one of those people who would stress over one or 2 pimples. i started using many various products which made me break out even more and i eventually developed terrible acne, all over. dark red/purple marks all over my cheeks and forehead. bumps on my chin. i freeeaaked out. i would never look people in the eye because my skin was so bad. i heard about acne.org and gave it a shot. within a month, it cleared the bumps on my face but i still had dark purple cysts on my cheeks, these didn't clear up til the 4th month of using benzoyl peroxide. i was pretty clear but still not satisfied because i had acne scars left on my right cheek. so i used ambi fade cream in hopes to clear it.....WAS A BIG MISTAKE. i put it all over my face and a couple days later, new pimples formed. so i suggest you really dont add in products. i was clear for a bit and eventually stopped using benzoyl because i ran out and didn't feel like ordering more. i began wearing makeup and well now im breaking out again. my fault. so now im back where i started. benzoyl really does help. You should consistently use it for results. At first your face will feel terrible and dry/flaky, you're going to hate it. I always got irritation around the corners of my mouth and it would darken my skin but eventually heal once my acne healed. So be patient, it really does work. I would say it takes a good 4 months if you have cysts and deep red marks like i did and if you never used this product before. Since I've used it in the past, it clears my skin faster when i get breakouts. The deep red scars took about 8 months to clear, so please be patient and don't pick at your skin.

IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SKIN TYPES: 1. Asian 2. Mediterranean 3. African 4. Latino OR if you are bi or multiracial.. PLEASE do not use Proactive. I have Mediterranean skin, which means I also have dry, sensitive skin. People with any of these skin types can't handle ANY of the benzoyl peroxide treatments. Proactive's treatments are not made for sensitive skin types. My acne was very light and I started to use Proactive mainly for longterm affects and I wanted clear skin in the future. I read a lot of reviews that said positive and negative things about this product, however, I, of course, was stubborn and had to at least try it. My rule is that I have to try something for at least six weeks in order to completely reject it. And that's what I did. My acne cleared up completely within the first week of use, however I would wake up some mornings, and my face would be so red and irritated that I would have to moisturize it every half hour. By the second week, my skin got used to the treatments and it looked as I would finally be clear of acne. I was so wrong. The next four weeks, my skin broke out more than it ever had in my life. Not only was I breaking out terribly, but the acne was leaving hyper pigmentation behind as well. I regret 100% using Proactive. My skin is awful now, and is impossible to keep under control. I have used all natural remedies, gentle cleansers, everything, to nurse it back to health, but nothing has worked. I've also been to the dermatologist and have been informed that I may have to start Accutane. Before Proactive, I would have never even been close to qualifying as a candidate for Accutane. I have hyper pigmentation marks all over my face, it's the most frustrating thing to look at. I did a lot of research before starting Proactive, but I wish I had done a lot more so I could have prevented this. I have now wasted so much time and money on acne treatments, it's ridiculous. PLEASE

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
