Product used: The Regimen

Pros:

cleared my acne
improved my complexion
gave me my confidence back

Cons:

must be consistent to see results

I don't even know what to say but thanks for changing my life, Dan. I had very bad acne before starting the regimen. I tried Differin, Retin-A and all they did was leave my skin dry, red, and flaky with no results. I tried using over the counter systems but none completely cleared my acne and after a month stopped working. I even got so desperate I thought it was a good idea to use 10% benzoyl peroxide and a big scrub brush on my face twice a day. My face was swollen and red it was so painful. I found reviews on the regimen and just had to try it. This system has completely cleared my acne and has given me my confidence back. If you are reading this and have acne please please please give it a try.

Pros:

Works well.

Cons:

Too pricey!

Used Proactive successfully for YEARS. Found that Walmart's Equate brand Acne Treatment System contains EXACTLY the same ingredients. After approximately 5 months of using the Equate product, there is absolutely no difference in the results I experienced all those years using Proactive. The 3-piece Equate kit costs $11.97 plus tax - almost a 30% savings. AND, you can purchase each piece of the 3-piece system separately, when YOU need it, for $4.12 each. Really? No brainer for me.

This is a very good product that I've used for a couple years. How come it is now out-of-stock everywhere I look? It's not even available on-line.

Pros:

Gets rid of flakes from the regimen
Got rid of tiny pimples/clogged pores from other cleansers that broke me out
Helps skin texture
Contains bp and AHA's

Cons:

Drying at first.
Must use spf because of the AHA's in it.

I am on DKR. I tried gentle cleansers but they always gave me clogged pores and small pimples. I'd go back to bp washes and they'd disappear only to return when I used a non-medicated cleanser. Enter this wash that also has aha's. They got rid of my bumps and any flakiness I had. I actually use the 4% and not the 10% since I use bp every night. I use this in the am and acne free oil free bp foam wash in the pm before using 2.5% bp all over. I'm very clear now from all of this.

Pros:

None

Cons:

My already moderate acne became so inflamed, so severe.... people thought I had hives.

I used Proactiv years ago not long after it came out. I don't remember exactly how long it took my skin to get worse but my skin NEVER improved. My mom called customer service (I was in high school at this time) and they urged her to encourage me to stay the course saying that many people don't see results for several months. I stayed the course for over FOUR MONTHS and there was never a hint that my skin would get better. It made my acne go from moderate to SEVERE. People didn't think I had acne, they thought I had hives or some allergic reaction. My face was covered in red inflamed bumps and pustules. Every time I see commercials for this product, my blood pressure raises just a little bit. I don't understand why it's still around. I don't remember how much it cost back then so I made an estimate for a monthly supply. I seem to recall it being somewhat pricey.

Pros:

Clears acne
Keeps new pimples from emerging and fights them under the skin
If a pimple forms, it is much less severe
Clear formula, absorbs fast

Cons:

Makes skin red
Makes skin dry
Makes skin itchy

This is the best BP out there. I was concerned that the 2.5% would not be strong enough because I have used as high as 10% in the past. However, the 2.5% is just perfect... using this BP morning and night as recommended really helps to fight pimples all day. From my own experience, I must say, for me at least, it was very important to START SLOW. I was using too much, too soon and my skin got very red and itchy. Once I slowed down and reduced the amount, my skin got much better. I feel that every person's skin is different, so everyone should use the amount that is right for them. So some people may never have to use the full amount that Dan suggests. But this BP is honestly great, its a clear formula that absorbs quickly into the skin and fights pimples very well. I only hope that I will continue to see the same great results, and then I will never stop buying this product!

Pros:

Did great at first

Cons:

Burns!
Red and Irritated Skin.
Dry Skin.
Takes to much time.
Made me feel oily and dirty.
Price
Company seems needy and greedy

Proactiv was great the first few weeks. Family knew a few people, who use and liked it. Sadly it didn't work on mine. And it is way over priced. We canceled our subscription and they won't leave us alone! Telling us we need to renew. hehe...no

Pros:

clears up acne - even cystic, skin showed improvement OVERNIGHT! absorbs almost instantly, lightweight, and no odor

Cons:

If you don't follow the directions for use at the very start of treatment then you WILL get a MAJOR amount of dryness and flaking!!! SO, USE A LITTLE AT THE START.

After a week of using the entire Acne.org regimen, my cystic acne is GONE. All I have are the dark spots left on my face where those cysts used to be. OH, and get this, the BP has rid ALL of my blackheads!!! I literally plucked the blackheads off my nose as if I were tweezing my eyebrow hairs hahah! I'm so thankful to Dan and his team! Life-changing for sure :D

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
