Stick it out?
I'm really trying to give this product the benefit of the doubt. I tried it because I would always have 1-2 pimples on my face at any given time, and I'm sick of looking like a teen (I'm in my early 20s). However, I've been using the product for exactly 3 weeks and have gone from 1-2 pimples on any given day to 8-10. They say this is the "purge" phase and it'll all get better, but if it doesn't start to work in the next two weeks I'm giving up. Sincerely disappointed, as this is something I've struggled with for a couple years now and am starting to get desperate.

Same here. I was told I'm in the purge stage and I'm in day 60. Finally saw a dermatologist and they said the purge stage is false. There is no purge stage. They said it is a false theory. I was informed to quit the product. I would say after having 4 pimples in the beginning to about 25 now at the age of 42, I will gladly STOP!

Finally
Proactive has benzoyl peroxide in it....that's y it bleached my sheets and towels...proactive also worked wonders for me. I stopped using it because the billing was always screwed up they would charge me extra sending bills in the mail. It's been 2 years hunting for the perfect skin care regime trying new things...and nothing has worked like this clear zit cream. I have super oily shiny skin, and this has perfected my skin into a matte appearance in just two nights and two days. Yes it does dry out the skin, but it's perfect becUse that's the skin that you need to exfoliate off anyway. It also dries up acne scars that I've had for years....now all I have to do is put on a great moisturizer or oil...and I'm super happy, burns like crazy wether you put a lot or a little on..but so do chemical peels...so it's safe.

Product used: The Regimen
It works!
I was on Proactiv for 10 years and had a great skin. I decided to stop using it thinking I was in good shape as an adult. Within a month or two I suffered terrible break outs... the worst of my life. I saw a dermatologist and tried a bunch of things: Epiduo, Clindamycin and Doxycycline. Nothing was working so eventually the dermatologist suggested nipping it all in the bud with Accutane. I was pretty nervous about it and ultimately felt like it wasn't worth the potential side effects. I went back on Proactiv and saw moderate results. They changed the formula and I wasn't really all that happy with the overall results, and I decided to give The Regimen a try. It sounds cliche, given all the other posts here, but I wish I had just tried it from the beginning. I remember reading reviews for all the different treatments that I was trying and also reading the reviews for The Regimen, being a bit skeptical. It's been about 5 months now and my skin is as clear as it's been in years. Some blemishes here and there but now anything that pops up is much smaller than ever and way more manageable. What blemishes that do surface usually disappear within a day or two. I know this probably isn't a forever solution but I would recommend The Regimen pretty easily and quickly.

AMAZING!
This product is AMAZING and is the only things that helps my acne. I've tried EVERYTHING on the market and have suffered from acne almost my entire life. THIS IS THE ONLY STUFF THAT WORKS FOR ME! AND MY SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL! (something I never thought I would EVER say!) The company is also AMAZING. Not only are they cruelty free and animal product free, but the customer service is OUTSTANDING. An order I placed somehow was not sent to me (which in the 4+ years I've been a customer has NEVER happened.) Not only did they give me a full refund, $25 store credit, and the product I ordered, but they sent me TWO ENTIRE acne regimen kits for absolutely free! I've never been let down and the one time that I was slightly disappointed, they completely made up for it and more. CONSIDER ME A LONG TIME CUSTOMER, AND CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!

CAUSES UNATTRACTIVE FACIAL SWELLING!!! Stay away!!!
I had used essentially every brand of OTC benzoil peroxide available, and had settled on a personal fave (walmart's equate brand 10% Max strength) when I was forced to give Zapzyt a try a couple of weeks ago. I had a pms-fueled forehead breakout and few sporadic zits on my cheeks and chin, and Walmart was *gasp* out of the Equate kind. Zapzyt was the next in line for being the cheapest, so I got it. That night, I applied in the usual manner as I would for the other bp creams and went to bed. The next morning, I woke up to my face feeling itchy. When I got up and took a look in the mirror, I practically jumped back at my reflection. MY EYELIDS, MY UNDEREYES AND MY CHEEKS WERE SO SWOLLEN THAT I LOOKED LIKE A CASTMEMBER OF REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS!!!! Or maybe just a young (super young, I'm under 30) version of Joan Rivers. Not kidding!! The swelling was awful. I looked like I had gotten my face pumped fill of fillers. Catlady of NYC, move aside! GuhROSS!!! It took two days for the swelling to subside, during which I had to apply ice and popped antihistamine like skittles. And after allllll that, my pimples didn't even decrease in size!!! I wish I were joking. Definitely do not recommend. Stick to ANY other brand but this. Unless of course....you want to audition to be a Housewife. ;)

I'm dead 💀 haha I love you! You should totally have a comedy blog about your everyday life you are hilarious, that being said I'm sorry you looked like that lady that injected cement and oil into her face, must have been painful not to mention the sun makes it worse. It says don't go out in the sun with it lol like so I guess you just have to sit the complete darkness whispering to yourself until it works or makes you look like a squirrel.

Works for me

Pros:

easy to find
works for light acne
easy to use

Cons:

a bit expensive

I hate beeing the devil's lawyer, but after reading a few of the comments I think I have to. Proactiv did worked for me. I always had light acne and I think I've tried almost every treatment out there and Proactiv was the only one that actually worked. I only use it once a day tho, at night, before I go to bed, so maybe that's why I don't experience the dryness. And I buy it from the local farmacy so I don't have to deal with the customer service (I feel that people complain more about this than the product itself :D) Anyway, just wanna let people know that there are people out there that have good experience with Proactiv.

I love it!!!

Pros:

Works fast
Gets rid of your spots
Cheap

Cons:

Leaves you with dry skin

This month I've developed really bad acne on my chin. The spots were all red and I didn't even want to go out my house because they looked awful! So I ordered brevoxyl on eBay and it has really helped my spots! I'm on day three of using it and my spots are nearly all gone! I usually apply this twice a day leave it on at night and when I wake up use tea tree oil as well which helps :)

Godsend for Bacne!

Pros:

Gets rid of bacne FAST
Inexpensive
Doesn't irritate skin

I have stubborn bacne that doesn't respond to over the counter or prescription medications. However, on a whim I decided to try Terminator for my acne, and in two days my bacne went from bumpy and red, to nearly smooth and clear. And by day three, there was one small pimple on my back, and the rest was clear. Terminator keeps me clear and for the past several months, I've kept at least two tubes on hand. Highly recommended!

Product used: The Regimen

Pros:

not too harsh
rapid clearing of acne
less prone to breakouts

Cons:

drying
facial redness
non mattifying

not too sure yet to think of this product but its been a week and my acne is clearing, currently ive literally tried everything from supplements to "acne kits" and definetely for me benzoyle peroxide is a miracle worker the only downfall is that it is a bit drying ,but some jojoba will do the job, the only other complaint i have is that some facial redness has been occuring but at least im am clearing up. in case you were wondering of the supplementation of my products ( i do work at the vitamin shoppe) i take saw palmetto for excess testosterone, guggul for natural tetracycline alternative, zinc for scarring and immune system, and lots of fish oil since i work out and of course my aminos and protein for weightlifting..... but girls if you were wondering t balance your hormones if your acne is hormonal look into maca, or eveing primrose oil.

Pros:

Completely cleared cystic acne
smooth radiant skin
works quickly and is highly effective

Cons:

None that I can think of

I suffered from cystic acne since the age of 13, and finally discovered this product from doing some serious internet research at the age of 26 (January 2012). Before using the treatment, I was using Clearasil Ultra (10% BP), and suffered from painful and chronic acne that left me suffering from a serious lack of self esteem. I got engaged at 25 and wanted very badly to have clear skin for my wedding in September 2012, so after reading all of the reviews I decided to give this product a try. I only purchased the BP treatment, and used it with Oil of Olay foaming face wash, along with Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer (0.5% salicylic acid), and also began taking zinc every day, and my face immediately began to clear up within only a couple of weeks, if that. My face was completely clear and radiant for my wedding, with not a single pimple in sight in any of my wedding photos. I can't tell you how happy and confident this product has made me feel! My face has been the clearest that it has ever been since I was very young, and the cystic, painful acne has completely disappeared. I rarely get pimples now (April 2013), and my skin looks radiant and smooth. It's almost difficult to believe that this is even possible. I wish that I had discovered this product earlier, and avoided all of the pain that having horrible acne all those years caused me. If you are scouring the internet for a treatment for your acne, and are feeling like nothing will ever work, I am begging you to please try this product out. If you are using BP that is in high concentration, like I was, immediately stop because that is most likely the reason why you are breaking out so badly--it is very damaging and irritating to your skin, and in this case, less BP is definitely more!! Please take my word for it, and if you don't want to buy the entire regimen, at least try what I am using and see if it works for you! :) Good luck!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
