Pros:

These products feels clean, fresh and light on the skin.

Cons:

None

I was lucky to have perfect skin during my teenage years, the acne came after the age of 18. I have tried everything from peels, diets, pills and creams, but the acne has followed me into my adulthood. When I came over these products on eBay, I must admit to have moderat expectations due to all the failed attempts. It would turn out to be an unnecessary concern. During the 2 years with these products, I have gradually seen a big improvement. My skin is much clearer and the break outs now appears rarely. I enjoy the fact that it's not a bunch of products, it is an easy procedure to follow morning end evening. These are quality products, with natural ingredients and discreet smell. Also, the products lasts for a long time, so the monthly cost is very affordable.

Pros:

It works so well to get rid of my mild acne. A friend of mine who had severe acne says it has efficiently reduced the amount of severe acne he suffered from and said that he used it as a face wash and a spot treatment before he would go to sleep.

Cons:

It drys your skin out when you use it too often, and it also drys your skin out when it is very dry outside. It burns a little bit when you first start using it. And when you stop using it for a day or two your acne starts coming back asap.

I SWEAR BY THIS STUFF FOR MY ACNE!!!! It is easy to carry around, but the lid of the bottle breaks kinda often. The last 3/5 of my bottles lids have broken. I've learned to keep the lids of the bottles that still function properly for later use.

Pros:

Steady (but slow} improvement. I feel I have control over my acne, and possibly a long term cure.

Cons:

The instructions seem to be focused on getting people to use as much as possible, so they can sell as much as possble. Actually its a good product but you have to find what works for you and ignore the instructions.

I have mild/moderate but very, very stubborn acne, and sensitive skin, but I still got this to work for me. I use it only twice a week and that is all my skin will take but it improves very slighly with each use. So - bottom line - ignore the instructions, see how your skin reacts and, most important be patient. Inbetween using proactiv I use a very mild skin wash (cetaphil) once a day.

Pros:

Good Return Policy!!

Cons:

These products did nothing that they claimed to do. My skin got really dry and irritated, aswell as my few pimples here and there have turned into zits everywhere!

I used these products for 2.5 months and have given them a fair chance to work, but they have made a big mess of my skin and I have not seen any improvement since. I am far worse then when I started! I just returned the products today for a full refund! Awful Awful Products!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
