Pros:

Cleared up much of my son's (age 16) light facial acne.

Cons:

Hasn't been able to help with the cystic acne on his jawline or back/chest/shoulders.

Good for light acne but not for cystic. My son is now on vitamin supplements--the last step before accutane--hopefully the vitamins will work. We have tried everything. My husband took accutane and it worked for him, but it is a strong drug and my son is leery of the side effects.

Pros:

Used it for a few days and my spots disappeared!

Cons:

My skin is really dry anyway but, the cream left it worse than ever. Really dry and flaky skin! And it really stings, but after a certain period of time applying, stinging decreases. Got it near my eyes once and they swell like balloons, so be careful!

Best spot treatment ever. Surprisingly cheap and most of all effective!

Pros:

OH MY GOODNESS, EVERYTHING.
I'm so happy with my skin, I could cry.
Prevents breakouts.
Soothes.
Not harsh.
Smells okay.
It not only takes care of acne but gives you soft, glowing, beautiful skin.

Cons:

It stains clothes.
It might take a bit long to work, but it prevents any new blemishes. In 4 weeks, your skin will be amazing, or pretty close to it.

BUY IT. Amazing! I've TRIED EVERYTHING!!!!!!! And this works!!!!!!!!!!! I use it 2x a day, and I use the "terminator" on the spots, and it does exactly what it claims -terminates. I started using this on December 2nd, and its January 8th, my skin is spotless. I barely use the terminator because I don't have any spots. I keep using the system because it prevents the break outs from happening, and it does its job. I'm a faithful costumer forever!

Pros:

Clears cystic acne

Cons:

skin slightly dry

Great for spot treatment. Used on a cystic pimple. Redness and swelling reduced significantly. Will only use when needed.

Pros:

It works!
It does not flake up like the cream ones
Makes you glow
Affordable

Cons:

Medical smell

I have been on the regimen for over a year, using "On The Spot" with good results. I was spending so much money buying those little tubes every week that I decided to buy Dan's huge bottle. I am so glad I did, it took me from good to great skin! I actually cured my acne by making this switch. The gel absorbs quickly and feels lightweight. The only negative thing is the smell, which is something I can live with if it means I can have gorgeous, smooth skin!

Pros:

Made zits smaller.

Cons:

Dried and irrated skin very expensive. It is too much for its quality.

Not the best it cleanses but doesn't get rid. It upsets me that it started eating at me and hurting my skin.

Pros:

Prevents breakouts, somewhat clears acne scar.

Cons:

Really dries the skin

I noticed that i have a lot less breakouts since I used it. I highly recommend a type of moisturizer because it's really dry.

Pros:

Clears Redness
MAY clear spots.

Cons:

Dries skin.

I got prescribed this as since i was about 13 ive had quite bad acne, im only 16, and its knocking my confidence as it would anybody. I got prescribed it on Monday then used it till now. Wednesday, Ive been putting it on a night.. I cant say ive noticed any massive improvements yet, other than drying my skin, but i can say it has taken some of the redness away, and I dont see any new spots forming. my acne prone areas are WAY dry and are peeling a bit.. Ive been using E45 cream for that over some antibiotics I was given by my doctor.

Pros:

cleared up skin quickly, not too drying, refining mask is amazing, only thing that I've actually seen positive results from

Cons:

price, worried about it becoming ineffective after a while

I have mild/moderate acne and I've literally tried everything (topicals, antibiotics, accutane)! None of these have worked! I began using proactiv about a month ago and have never been happier with my skin. I would recommend it to anyone, to at least try it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
