Pros:

pretty cheap (I got a card from the derm. from the manufacturer)
worked a little at first

Cons:

Doesn't work anymore
Used to give me headaches/dizziness
Used to make me sensitive to the sun
never completely cleared skin

I was prescribed this medication almost a year ago and I've been taking it all along. It started to clear up my skin but never completely and it seemed as if you start to get an immunity to it. I hard moderately severe acne. Especially on my back. It did help my back tons! and my back completely cleared, but like i said after a few months it started coming back. I was also using clindamyacin phosphate lotion and a benzoyl peroxide wash on my back, so maybe that's really what cleared my back. They clindamyacin was basically supposed to help the scarring on my back which it did, but it also felt sort of oily. I stopped taking it about 2 months ago because I wanted to try birth control and This interferes with Birth control. The birth control isn't working at all for the acne. I'm going to the derm. this week and I'm going to try to get a better topical treatment. sodium sulfacetamide maybe?

Pros:

Too early to tell

Cons:

Dizziness/ light headedness/ nausea

I was prescribed 30 days of 115mg Solodyn for perioral dermatitis. I took one pill at night, and was nauseous the next day, so I stopped. Instead, I tried apple cider vinegar. After about 3 weeks of ACV (drinking and applying), the perioral dermatitis didn't clear up entirely. So I'm trying again with the Solodyn. I'm on day two, and the nausea hasn't returned. However, I am very lightheaded/dizzy. It's manageable, for now, though, so I plan to stay on it. I am hoping this solves the perioral dermatitis once and for all...(I'm keeping up the ACV concurrently, because it can't hurt). As for the cost, my doctor gave me a card from the manufacturer that makes it only $10 for each 30-day supply.

Pros:

- Not too expensive
- Made my skin a little less oily
- Almost no side effects
- No big breakouts once I stopped using it

Cons:

- Didn't really do anything for my acne
- Made me a little dizzy the first week
- Hard to take every night at the same time with a busy schedule

I took Solodyn for about 2 months and it did almost nothing. I didn't have many side effects, but my skin barely improved at all. It's not worth taking it daily because the results weren't spectacular, but I wouldn't discourage you from taking it because different things work for different people. I have quite stubborn skin. For the past five years I have been battling acne and nothing has changed. I have tried almost everything. My point is that your skin may respond better so give it a shot.

Pros:

does NOT bother your stomach like regular minocycline. I could take this on a totally empty stomach and it was fine. And I have a sensitive gut.

Cons:

Almost no insurance carrier covers it so I had to deal with their silly coupon cards. It was SUCH a pain to get any refills.

I'm pretty sure it helped keep my acne at a slightly lower level than usual, but truthfully, I didn't notice much of a difference when I went off it.

Pros:

the first couple of weeks it cleared up my skin really well

Cons:

After 2 weeks my acne stopped getting better
I had some side effects that i wasn't ok with like sever headaches and vaginal itching and swelling

It worked well for the first couple of weeks but for me the side effects weren't worth what it was doing for me. So i am going back to my derm to try something different

Pros:

-> worked at first, and did a great job at managing my acne; however, it stopped working after about a month or two!

Cons:

-> just stopped working
-> became ineffective
-> skin was still breaking out, didn't really see a huge change.

This was the first prescription medicine that my derm put me on. I was really excited about trying it about for about 2 to 3 weeks, my acne seemed to be under control. However, after awhile, this just stopped working. Some of my acne came back. I wouldn't really recommend this, because I have seen much better results with *Spironolactone* instead!

Pros:

Doesn't upset my stomach as other antibiotics have in the past. Only have to take it once a day. Seems to work for me.

Cons:

Expensive as my insurance puts it at the highest co-pay.

Suffered from acne off and on since high school and am 35 YO now. Use Solodyn, Benzaclin and Retin-A. Not sure which has done the trick but been clear for a few months now, except for the occ. pimple around my period. Had been using Clindamycin but tried Benzaclin to clear up the whiteheads on my forehead. Benzaclin has cleared them up but my face super dry and even the DML didn't help even though usu. have oily skin. Started to wash my face only at night (Cetaphil for oily skin) and use the Benzaclin as a spot treatment and preventive on my t-zone. Also cut back on the dairy, switched to organic milk for my cereal and stopped eating soy. My acne is hormonal and stress-related so believe it or not but think yoga helps me too. Not only does it relieve my stress but I think the breathing is cleansing. I still have bumpy scars around my mouth but hope they'll reduce over time. Also had two chem peels by Dr. but not convinced they help.
