please answer this question!
I am 13 and have been having acne for about a year. I tried a lot and my doctor just prescribed me solodyn. also onexton in the morning and ziana at night. I have been using this routine for about 10 days. I haven't seen much improvement. but I want to know does this product really work. and should I just give it some time? and if so how much time?

I’m on pretty much the same thing as you! I’m also thirteen! I also take spironolactone and use a retinoid instead of ziana. I’ve been using it for about a month and seen a slow improvement from about 2-3 weeks, so It takes awhile you just need to be patient but if it comes to like 3 months and there’s no improvement talk to ur doc! You should be fine so far though!

Works... But not for me
I've been using Solodyn for about 3 weeks now. My dermatologist has me taking half of a 115mg Tablet once a day along with Aczone and Acanya. It's definitely cleared up most of the inflamed acne but everything else is still present. I think this is because I have extremely oily skin so my pores are constantly being clogged. Before this I was on Doxycyclin for a little while which did absolutely nothing. Then Aczone and Acanya with little improvement. Hence the reason why my doctor threw in Solodyn. If cystic acne is your main problem then this will probably work for you. But personally I'm just waiting on my follow up date so that I can beg for Accutane.

Pros:

seemed to help clear up acne a little bit

Cons:

hives and joint pain, hair loss

At first, the medicine seemed to help: less breakouts, less deep painful pimples. I am now a month into it and yesterday I got hives! they are the most irritating, uncomfortable, itchy things ever, and it's all over my arms, stomach, legs and even on my face...much more embarrassing than acne :( My dermatologist told me to stop taking solodyn to see if that was the cause of this outbreak, which i am pretty sure it is because this is the first time in my life i've gotten hives. I have joint pain in my upper arms and in my knees as well. I also noticed while on solodyn I had began to lose a lot more hairs (I mean, I went from losing like 5-10 to 30, a day) Although my derm said that is really uncommon and probably isn't from solodyn, I disagree. Lastly, one day off this pill and i've already got a new deep pimple.

Pros:

-does clear up acne
-I personally had no side effects.

Cons:

-become dependent on
-can have severe flare ups when coming off

I have been on this medication for about 2-3 years, a lot longer than I should have been probably. But the very first time I tried to come off of it, I experienced the absolute worst breakout of my entire life. I actually though it was an allergic reaction of some sort, but the doctor assured me it was just acne. But I quickly when back on it to clear up my skin. So this medication did work for me, though I became exteremly dependent on it. It didnt completely get rid of my acne, but enough to make me comfortable in my own skin. I have recently started coming off of the medicene with no intention of going back on. I have started breaking out, but nothing close to what happened the last time. Hoping this is just a flare up that will pass when my body gets used to not being on the pill.

Pros:

Acne was less red

Cons:

Skin sensitivity got so bad my whole back got dry, red and patchy it looked disgustiong. These pills gav me HORRIBLE side effects: headaches, nausea, dizziness, dehydration, etc. it was too unbarable to finish the whole 3 months.

Works well, takes a while, bad side effects

Pros:

Cleared up Acne

Cons:

Hair Lose
Dry Skin

As a 30yr old Black Female I got tired of having breakouts. I finally went to the dermatologist and she prescribed Solodyn. I've been taking it since September. I noticed my hair was shedding bad after 2 months. My hair dresser noticed a lot of breakage. I checked online and hair lose was not a side effect. I called my doc and she has taken me off the pills stating that hair lose is rare but can happen. I'm sad b/c the medication has been great but I'd prefer not to be bald. Sigh! On to the next prescription......

Pros:

Cleared acne

Cons:

Had a new yeast infection every month I was on it never had one before and havent had one since stopping a few months ago. Also developed sun spots on my face from sensitivity to light

I did not continue on it related to the side effects. I had cystic acne before using it and it worked great to clear it up.

Pros:

cleared skin up within the first week of using

Cons:

felt dizzy the first few days and got the flu after about 4 or 5 days of taking it, which im not sure if it was a result of the medicine weakening my immune system or something else

Im 18 years old and I started getting acne when I was 11 and never really had clear skin since then. I would recommend this if you can deal with possible side effects from it. Ive only been taking it for about a week so I dont know if the side effects are gunna continue. My skin hasnt felt this smooth or looked this clear in a long time.

Pros:

worked well when I was taking it daily
no negative side effects

Cons:

acne comes back, sometimes in different places
not supposed to take this for very long

This worked the first 4 months I was on it. then the dr decided to slowly decrease my amount in hopes of stopping it completely, as this is not a medication you are supposed to take for long periods of time. my acne is slowly getting worse as my dosage has decreased over the past 3 months, i now take it every 3rd day. Topicals have not been effective in preventing acne from returning. so for short term, it works great, but long term doesn't help.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin

Cons:

Now I have back acne
Loss of sexual interest
Expensive w/o coupon

Works in some areas but causes breakouts in others. Is $900 w/o the coupon given to by the dr. I've lost sexual desire since being on this pill as well. That alone might be worth stopping it!
