Pros:

No side effects whatsoever (this is primarily because my doctor told me to take it with food)
No visible acne anymore

Cons:

None so far

I just started this prescription medicine last week. I never thought I would ever be on a prescription for Acne but I guess as we get older our body changes. I am in my early 30's and I decided to switch from birth control pills to Mirena because of the convinience of it. I dont regret it but I wish I knew what was going to happen to my face. I dont think I have EVER seen my face with such painful cysts and huge pimples. My face was breaking out and I was very depressed about it. My skin was quite clear while I was on the pill. I would say I started with moderate acne and now Im onto light. I dont have visible pimples all I have left are mostly dark spots due to my picking and skin pigmentation. Before I got on the solodyn I started washing my face with a glentle face wash and did Dan's advise regarding the Benzol Peroxide this worked wonders and the pimples started to clear up within 2 days but I need it something to kill this bacteria from the inside out - this is why I took my doc's advise for the solodyn. So far I gotten no pimples and I am pmsing as we speak, by now my face would have 4 or 5 and I have none. I also noticed my skin is less oily which is a PLUS. I can't wait to see the results after a month. I However, if I hadn't gotten on the solodyn I would still be doing Dan's Regimen with the Benzol Peroxide. It does work and I still do it just @ night because it makes my skin too dry if I put it both morning and night. I suggest for those who Solodyn hasn't work to stop discouraging other people from trying it, each person's body is different and the medicine reacts different for everyone. Just a note, I also stopped eating certain foods. I completely cut out caffeine (which is BIG for me), anything fried or too greasy. I barely eat meats, etc. In order to help your body and skin you must change from the inside out, fixing the outside doesn't help the inside. I am so far happy with the results from Dan's regimen and the Solodyn. Drink LOT

Pros:

Clear skin!

Cons:

Not an immediate fix
Tiredness
Initial breakout

So I grew up with clear skin. I went through high school, and even my first year of college, with just the occasional zit here and there. But when I turned 20 that all changed. I would usually get a zit or two right before my period, but now I was getting five or six HUGE zits. They hurt really bad, and would last practically the entire month. I let it go on for too long, because I was in denial about actually having acne. Finally I went to the dermatologist, and he said I had cystic acne. He prescribed me Solodyn (80mg). I started taking the pill and I noticed that I couldn't get enough sleep. I was always tired! Also, the initial breakout was TERRIBLE. There were lots of tears, and I thought it was 100x worse and never going to get better. My advice is to just get through the few months of horrible skin, because the results are magical! After my third month of using this pill I suddenly had clear skin! I'm on month four now, and I'm slowly getting off of this antibiotic. I haven't had a zit in a whole month! I didn't even get one around my period! I'm so excited that it worked. It will work for you too, just give it the full three months.

Pros:

It really helped my acne
Only one pill per day

Cons:

Sensitivity to sun

I am 26 years old and broke out in horrible acne (the worst I've ever had) after stopping birth control pills. Nothing was helping, and after 7 months I went to the dermatologist. She prescribed me Solodyn. I was nervous to take it at first after reading so many bad reviews about horrible side effects. I've been on it for 2 months now, and so far it has been great. My face is almost completely clear! I take it every morning with breakfast on a full stomach, and I have not experienced any side effects as of now.

Pros:

Tightens pores, especially around and on nose.
Smaller acne blemished are reduced.
Skins overall tone is returning.
Oilyness is reduced.
Skin looks healthier.

Cons:

It does have a minor initial breakout where the smaller blemishes surface but they went away.
But now rather big non-discolored bump/cysts are starting to occur, they sort of just seem like swollen bumps.
Lightheaded/dizzy/tired at times

--From an early user's point of view.-- I was prescribed 2 months of solodyn, as well as using the topical creams epiduo and noritate. I've been using it one week exactly now. It's hard to tell if the good is out-weighing the bad yet, or even if the bad is caused by the solodyn and not one of the creams. I'm confused about it myself. My skin, as far as coloring and pore tightness goes, looks much better. Perfect in some places. But, I've gotten 3 big bumps, that almost seem as if they are bug bites rather than pimples, but they are not. Its hard to say, but they are large, about the size of a dime and swollen. They showed up after using solodyn, but they are the same color as my skin. My dermatologist says to just give it a little time and to see if it goes away. My skin everywhere else looks great, my cheeks look much nicer, as well as my nose. But those were my problem area before, and now it seems as if the solodyn reversed the issue, now my chin and forehead are breaking out, which is the exact opposite problem since they were blemish free. I'm hoping that it is temporary, and that onces these swollen bumps go away, that the solodyn will improve those areas as well. I'm about 50/50 right now. It made some areas look much better, but like I said, gave me 3 cyst/non-discolored bump type things. One tip I have is to avoid dairy when using this, it seemed to me that as soon as I had a glass of milk it, for some reason, did not keen to well with the solodyn, and that is when the bumps formed. You also have to stay out of the sun when using it as much as possible. Overall, I am happy with the way the majority of my skin is reacting to it, and hopefully the derm is right and the bumps are temporary, but we'll see. Perhaps I will make a second review after I have been on it longer. That's about all I can say thus far. I can't really say if I recommend it yet, like I said, I cannot tell if it is helping or not at this point.

Pros:

Easier to take and use than a topical remedy. More effective, too.

Cons:

Could give you stomach aches, but should be fine as long as you don't take it less than a half hour before going to sleep and eat something with it.

I've been through I don't know how many prescription skin medications, but nothing really helped clear my skin before this. I had bad cystic acne before, but now my skin is almost completely clear. People complement me on it. But, you really have to take it at almost exactly the same time every day. It takes a few weeks to work (took like six weeks for me), so be patient.

Pros:

This is my second week... My skin is clearing, don't know whether it is from this differin or clindamycin pledgets.... NO SIDE EFFECTS, except a bit more tired.

Cons:

None.

I hope this helps with my hormonal, jawline, cystic acne and CLOGGED pores on chin (that eventually turn into cystic bumps). I am thankful I didn't let all the negative reviews about side effects stop me from using it.

Pros:

Cleared up my acne very quickly, within a week I was clear but I do get an occasional whitehead.

Cons:

Expensive for me! 60.00 for 30 days.

I'm glad my dermatologist gave me the prescription as I was breaking out with new acne almost daily and cystic ones as well. I also use proactiv face wash, moisturizer and sulfer treatment on my new acne and nutragena spf30 oil free moisturizer over the proactiv.

Pros:

Works!

Cons:

Takes time.

Solodyn takes at least 3 months to work. I went to see my derm because i just had occasional breakouts. He prescibed solodyn. first month- nothing changed second month- skin got terribly worse third month- completely different skin. full results. amazing. you really have to have patience for this product. there were so many times when i wanted to give up, but i stuck with it and now i am happier then ever. solodyn is a wonderful product. if you can handle years of terrible skin, then you can take 3 more months. believe me, this is a wonderful product.

Works, but only when I'm using it.
I was prescribed Solodyn 105mg for the second time recently. What I can say is this: it does wonders. My face began to clear up about two days after I began taking the pill. It stops all breakouts for me as well as reduces the redness from pimples dramatically. The only issue is that when I'm off it, I begin breaking out just like before around a few weeks after I stop taking it. The first time I took Solodyn, I was using it for three weeks. I stopped taking it for around a month, and am now back on it after breaking out pretty badly once I was finished the first course. Solodyn works for me very well, but only when I'm taking the pill.
