Day 19 Imgur https://imgur.com/a/pyOTxU4
took under overhead lighting but scars look much smoother lol I guess no lighting is as harsh as my bfs harsh kitchenoverhead lighting lol. Thinking about taking some there soon to compare when I have the opportunity
Ive noticed my new skin has white fuzzy hair (something I never dealt with before.. Ive been doing laser hair removal but may also begin doing my face bc of this new hair beginning February).
I also am thinking of hopefully having my second peel in the last week of august, after judging them at six month period
I am quite pleased still. Its really hard to capture my scars in most lighting which is lovely. Even in overhead lighting, on some angles it can look so smooth.. something i never experienced before so i can see now what @gynoscar meant in their post regarding their phenol experience and how their face looks so much smoother
I plan to take some outside soon as well.
I havent begun introducing retinol or vitamin c back yet may wait until the day 30+ mark. Been relying mostly on Alastin. Bought another tube of it.Your skin looks sooooo smooth, you don't need a second peel.
Thank you but I still have some divots that are bothersome...if they don't improve in 6 months, I will want to do a second peel
Never thought I would but also kind of in the thinking now that "I didn't get this far to only get this far" you know? I think with a second peel, I could truly be content..
so close to it now
I agree it's an amazing procedure and Dr. Rullan is amazing too. Btw, did he say anything about retirement himself?

He didnt but I also didnt ask him upfront about it. He IS passionate about his line of work so I do hope he doesnt retire anytime soon. But his staff have mentioned him being indecisive and they arent even that sure themselves
so just gotta hope for the best I guess and think positive!
Its too soon to see. A fair point of evaluation after a deep peel is 6 month to a year. But so far so good. It just improves the overall quality of the skin. Plus make u look more youthful. Me personally I was getting swooned from girls after the peel which was interesting. But scars took a long time to get there. I would say 6 month to a year. Dont do any treatment for atleast a year and then decide if you need another peel. There is a regional peel as well where he just does the cheek area.
How long did you wait until you did the second peel?
was your second peel regional?and when did you stop seeing results after your first one?
I was impatient so after 3 months from my first peel I did a regional peel only covering the cheeks area. Because as per his study he said it can be done. But this caused my pores to temporarily enlarge after my second session for a long time, scars improved though. But in hindsight atleast 6 months to even consider a second regional peel.
I think Ill wait 8 months and boook it for the last week of august
im also scared hes going to retire soon
but after the first one when did you stop seeing results? Were you still seeing results after 30 days?
How long was the downtime for the second regional?
I would say skin keeps on healing in the backend. It just takes time. Immediately you see smoothness but on a long timescale it will start lifting. Bet patient and keep using your retinol

I am talking about the divots that you still see. It takes time to lift and stretch out.
Here is a comparison april 2022 vs today post phenol day 16 under bf same direct harsh lighting
This really shows how far you've come. Congrats, I feel like your skin is truly reaching the point where you will soon be satisfied with it! Really good.
I hope it continues to improve. I'm going for my second subcision tomorrow followed by suction at home for 4 weeks. I hope I can improve.
My first subcision + co2 laser had like 5-10% improvement total, maybe. In the first 5-7 days, wow I was blemish. But I guess that was the microswelling effect... after the first week, the scar began coming back until now where they're almost at the base level. My doc doesn't do filler, and I didn't know about the suction back then. Now, nearly 1.5 months later, I will do with the suction and hope to see some improvement! I plan to do another subcision + suction in 3 months, and then another in 3 months, and perhaps try to find a doctor to do filler later in the year...
Unfortunately, my thread got deleted/lost during this forum "upgrade".
Thank you. I sure hope so. Haha. What skin type are you? thats a good game plan. Treating your scars with manual methods should be prioritized prior to energy methods if youre at the beginning of your scar treatment journey
lol I wish they could sell microswelling in a bottle, I would be hooked.
I'm as white as they get. Blond and white. I did my second subcision, will start suction on the third day. Now with the microswelling + untethered scars, my big atrophic scar (which is the only one I really have and need to fix in my view), is like 90% leveled with the surrounding skin, looking great. Obviously, there are still some textural issues there, but that's another conversation.
Really, I just need to find a freaking way to make sure this doesn't re-tether again. If it remains untethered, even without microsweeling, I'll have like 70% improvement, which is crazy. Hopefully, I can achieve some of this with suction during the next 4 weeks! And in 3 months, I will go for the 3rd subcision and this time use filler (restylane lyft, recommended by the doctor to fill this area.)
Btw, the scar I'm talking about is this one (before subcision, 1.5 days after subcision). [edit: can't seem to directly post the link. try this: drive,google,com/file/d/1qDRndQ-JHwvmfFCAbsGihiPymPG9J7sF/view - switch commas for dots]
Thats a great before after wow
so just subcision and no filler to act as a spacer?
did they do tumescent anesthesia prior to the subcision? Whose the doc thats doing your subcision
lucky for you being so fair skinned. Can get away with a lot of energy treatments
Hello friend,
Yes, subcision leaves my atrophic scar completely leveled with the surrounding skin. It's really crazy to see like 90% improvement after the subcision (except for the texture). The problem is that as the days go by, the scar retethers and I'm back at square one. That was what happened in my first subcision. Now, on this second one, I am doing suction to try my best to prevent retethering. Hopefully, I can achieve some level of success because 3 months from now, I will go for another subcision but this time with filler (restylane lyft). Fingers crossed that this works...
My doc is just a normal dermatologist in europe lol, I'm doing there cause due to an insurance technicality, I only pay 50 bucks for each subcision. For the subcision + filler, I will pay just 150 bucks. Suction kit costed me like 10 bucks. Laser treatments and peelsI am leaving that for when the scar is filled up and leveled with the skin... that's about texture, and I think these two, according to my research, will definitely help. But for now, gaining volume on this crater is ALL that matters when it comes to my skin progress!
Day 28? https://imgur.com/a/eAsH5OQ
I can definitely see my scarring much more easily in harsh lights. But its softer than before for sure disappointing that a bunch of the preliminary results was microswelling but such is the acne scar journey, eh? Im much more pleased with the left side than right side
my next steps:
- combined RFM & eCo2 monthly
- filler with a derm Dr Rullan recommended in Toronto on March 2nd
- temple filler on Jan 22 (this will help fill in aging temples, make acne scars a tiny less noticeable)
- 2 or 3 day phenol peel in august 2023
Thoughts regarding my plan are welcome 🙂

Had been looking forward to your one-month update 🙂
Now I can see your scars. But overall, you have pretty good texture. Also your redness has faded a lot. Now I am redder than you as I am using tretinoin these days. I am thinking about not using it, as it cause a lot of irritation.
Don't panic. It will get smoother over months. Btw, what skincare do you use daily? Looks your face is quite clean. I am putting tons of moisturizer on my face every day. It's super uncomfortable.

Give your skin a break. This is a very deep peel. Also it really takes time to see results. Only do below the skin treatments if you want such as diluted radiasse or sculptra very good for collagen and plumping the cheeks.

What made you decide to do the second peel so fast? Did you feel you stopped seeing results? Now that I see some of my scarring again its hard for me to believe its going to improve tbh
but also in Dr. Rullans phenol article a significant amount of of acne scar patients did undergo a second peel
you may be right about rfm / eCo2 maybe its just best to wait for fillers

Are you more pleased with your result now vs day 14? I started using tret again last night
I do hope youre right about it getting smoother trying to trust the process
Ive been using a lot of Alastin, daily sunscreen and light moisturizers
noticed a pimple or two last night so Ive been doing spot treatments with benzoyl peroxide. I also incorporated vitamin c this morning and probably will continue vitamin c in mornings again going forward
Also fillers are needed. I got a cannula subcision and diluted radiesse which really helped get volume and improvement in scars overall. And in my experience it atleast takes 2 months to see results.
Do you regret getting the phenol peel? Or do you feel that it got you enough improvement to justify it?
im going for my phenol peel on 1/18. However my skin texture is absolutely terrible and I have pigmentation issues so I feel it will be good for me anyway.
Regarding the 3 day phenol peel, Ive been told that Dr. Rullan is considering a 3 day phenol peel for me. Apparently it is something he decides on the 2nd day of the phenol peel.
Also, how soon did you go back to work? How did it go wearing the mask?
glad youre recovering well and I do see a lot of improvement.

Oh super interesting, Id love to follow your journey. Is there a price difference for the 3 day phenol?
I dont regret it because I am very pleased with the left side of my face
ifs just the right side where a lot of the scarring has reappeared
But its more shallow now I do feel less self conscious about it
And I also know if I never did the phenol Id regret it because of the what if
i want to do a second phenol for sure. Maybe even 3 day phenol.. please tell me youll post a thread because Id love to see the results
what skin type are you?
I did the phenol 2 day on Dec 19 and 20 and I had my first day back at work on Jan 3 I think

It was only one shift on Jan 3 and my face felt super tight though
I was still seeing the scarring after peel which made me think that. Because I suddenly came across a harsh mirror. So that was an emotional response. In hindsight I should have waited 6 months for it.
Hmm good to know. Ill wait the 6 months but I likely will want a second phenol that does sound like an emotional response Im sorry
Ugh. The mountains we go through for our scarring.
how many subcision sessions did you do afterwards with radiesse?
Im also thinking the redness is likely enhancing things

Kind of the same. I can see every individual scar. Btw, my face is still pretty swelling (during the day, sometimes it feels more sometimes less). What about you?
I don't have large scars, but just a lot of ice picks and shallow boxcar all over the face.
The skin is extremely fragile. The epidermis can be easily scratched off. So be careful when using tret. I am considering stopping it.
Also, I'd wait at least 10-12 months to evaluate the final result. I remember once I did Ultrapulse CO2 (pretty significant), I only started to notice improvements in the second half of the year. So I believe phenol result takes at least half a year to accumulate. I don't think Dr. Rullan will retire that soon. At least not this year.

Really? How do you see swelling now? How do you determine that?
im unsure at this point if Im still swollen or not
Day 29/30 ? https://imgur.com/a/2z5Tz1v
my scarring is looking less deep than like a day or two ago which is odd to me lol tried to get under overhead unflattering lighting
I may likely be doing a second phenol last week of august depending on what Dr Rullan thinks (I just their office & Mary some of these photos today)

How do you compare the duration of the swelling of this last procedure that you've done against for eg. subcision with filler or suction?
