Acne.org’s Real World Take
Due to its antimicrobial properties and ability to absorb skin oil and dry out the skin, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for various skin conditions, including acne. However, it is normally reserved for noninflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads), because it doesn't work as well as other over-the-counter medications for inflammatory acne (papules and pustules).

Pros:

Cons:

smells so bad it smells like your face was burned

I used this product for 3 weeks and almost all of my acne is gone I think all the people who used this product never realy used it and there trying to make murad look bad. and some people are saying the spot treatment drys your skin your only required to put that on your pimples to speed up healing

Pros:

The skin perfecting lotion is superb. The Retinol is the key.

Cons:

1.7oz is great, but a little small.

If you find that one of these products in the regimen works for you, buy it separately. Do not be a bias idiot after one use. I doubt after one use your face is catching on fire; lets get a grip people.

Pros:

clears skin. evens texture. reduces redness. controls oil. works for on-the-spot treatments. like an all-in-one product. does everything you want in a mask.

Cons:

can dry out skin a little. cant buy in stores.

AMAZING stuff. i loooooove this stuff so much!!! just put it on, leave it on, wash it off, and voila! great skin is yours. (after a few uses) i couldnt believe some ppl actually said no to this product. i dont like proactives 3 step solution. this is the ONLY proactive thing i actually like. and i love it. try it. really is best thing ive put on my face (and ive tried ALOT)

Pros:

works amazing!

Cons:

can stain your pillow-case if you use it overnight

This stuff works GREAT! The entire proactive line works great, but this refining mask is amazing! You can use it once a week to smooth your skin, and control breakouts, but if you get a random big pimple/zit - all you have to do is dab on some before bed, let it dry and keep it on throughout the night. In the morning you just wash it off, and the pimple has visibly reduced! Do this every night for a couple of nights and youre pimple will be gone!!!! yayness!!!!

THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!

Cons:

NONE!!!!!

THESE PEOPLE ARE STUPID THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST PRODUCT, EVERYONE KNOWS YOU BREAK OUT THE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS WHEN USING SOMETHING NEW!!! GIVE IT A CHANCE

Pros:

price is on par with other mid-range treatments, smells & feels clean, has GREATLY improved my skin, I have not at all had the irritation that others seem to have had, good mix of active ingredients including retinol

Cons:

the acne spot treatment (sulfur) is a little drying, but if you take a break from it for a day it is no problem

I am confused by all of these bad reviews; I started using the Murad acne complex about 2 months ago and love it! I have had pretty serious acne my whole life (I'm 29!) and have tried everything (prescription & OTC)...was on Accutane (most powerful presc acne drug) 3X...the limit! Each time, my face would look wonderful for about a year but the acne would come back. I tried ProActiv years ago; I never liked the way it felt on my face (it never felt totally clean) but it did work ok. Murad has actually done the best of anything (besides Accutane) I have tried to date. There is a purging process like they say, but it hasn't been as bad as I expected and it is almost done. My skin is smoother than it has been in years and it continues to improve. Not willing to claim a miracle yet, but I have DEFINITELY not had the bad experience many of these reviewers have. I recommend the product, as it has done wonders for me so far. If you're searching, you should least give it a try.

Pros:

Works consistently for me.

Cons:

Alittle stinky - but worth it.

I'm over 40 and having hormonal acne that has been just awful and distressing. I bought this product, like many other folks, as a what-the heck, I've tried everything, attempt to get rid of my acne problem. It consistently reduces the size and swelling of the pimple and helps speed up the drying and healing of the bump. I've never had this product "give" me more pimples EVER... so I'm not sure what is up with those remarks by other people who tried the product.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
