Acne.org’s Real World Take
Due to its antimicrobial properties and ability to absorb skin oil and dry out the skin, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for various skin conditions, including acne. However, it is normally reserved for noninflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads), because it doesn't work as well as other over-the-counter medications for inflammatory acne (papules and pustules).

Pros:

Great Smell, Works an absolute treat.
Simple to use. Well priced for a treatment system (Have previously paid more for products that did way less).

Cons:

The first week my skin did "purge", but this was over quickly. Skin did dry/peel slightly but it is fine now.

I've not written a review before, but after seeing so much bad feedback about this product I thought it was nessisary for another point of view. I've suffered from acne ranging from mild to severe since I was 13, Now 21 It's fair to say i was fed up and tried this product as a last resort. it cleans the skins fantastically, smells great and is so simple to use. With this said, I feel like lifestyle has a big bearing with this product. If your going to eat rubbish, expect rubbish. If your going to cover your face with masses of make up to cover a break out, expect it to get worse/hardly heal (I'm so very guilty of this). I can say my skin right now is the best it's been since I was 13 and am actually confident enough to leave the house without make up. The spot treatment is definitely the BEST spot treatment i've ever used as well. It's less harsh on skin but does the job. Obviously, this product won't suit everyone, but look past the "purging" stage and it's worth it. I maintain, there is so many pro's to this product.

Product used: KAVI (Coral KAVI)

Pros:

I've been 90% acne free for 14 months and counting.

Cons:

Zero.

I'm 31 years old and have been suffering from acne since I was about 16. I remember my first year in college thinking my acne would clear up by the summer in time for going to the beach without the 150 to 200 or so cysts on my upper back. Well, my "teen" acne never cleared up, even with Accutane, ProActiv, and every prescription med out there until I spent $25 on three little pink bars. I don't know why I tried it and I didn't know about acne.org. It was like God was finally taking mercy on me. And from the second I felt tingling on my back from the soap, I felt this jolt go through me like this one was going to work. Next morning, I swear the red death on my back was looking different. Two days later, there was definitely a difference. I looked at my back with a hand mirror every 6 hours that first month, and last summer was my first summer at the beach since I was 15. I'd gone 16 years without the feeling of sand between my toes and saltwater on my lips because of dermatologists who want to prescribe expensive treatments and nonsense that doesn't work. If you've given up, you need to try this bar. I do not work for KAVI or anything like that so please do not call my story fake. Good luck and god bless. P.S. I also use their Toner, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and SPF. All great products.

Pros:

-On spot blemish control
-Noticeable difference overnight
-SIGNIFICANTLY reduces pimple size

Cons:

-Smells awful
-Solution dries out after a month or so
-It doesn't heal the pimple in its entirety
-Expensive

This is a great overnight solution to a breakout that needs to be fixed. Any time I've discovered a new pimple (even if it's underneath the skin), I've applied the solution to the spot with a cotton swab and received great results in the morning!! Some downfalls to this product are that it can SERIOUSLY dry out your skin; USE SPARINGLY. Also, it doesn't correct redness of breakouts, sadly...but it's perfect for any emergency! It's also possible to wear underneath your makeup.

Pros:

- reduces pimples fast
- reduces redness

Cons:

-difficult to wash off
- hard to get
- can be over drying when used with BP & regime

good quick fix to get rid of pimple redness and helps remove pimples fast. its difficult to wash off in the morning and can leave to irritation if you scrub it off. 4/5 cause it works as a quick fix but it doesnt prevent pimples so dont use on entire face only on pimples.

Pros:

Shrinks pimples, gets rid of blackheads and reduces redness. Makes skin feel smooth and gives a very fresh and clean feeling

Cons:

Can make face feel dry and must use a minimum amount or face will feel extremely stiff and irritating

When I first started using this it would really dry out my face, so I had to regulate it. For some reason now it doesn't dry my face out at all and I use it everyday after a shower. Immediately after I step out of the shower I put it on because the hot water from the shower really opens pores. I try to put a minimum amount on because if there's too much your face it can be so irritating it's almost painful. Since my face is still wet from the shower the mask disappears on my face and reappears after the water has evaporated off my skin. I can leave this mask on for 2 hours, forget about it and still wash it off with my skin looking very even and smooth. After I wash the mask off and let my face dry I put witch hazel on my face with a cotton ball that sort of "seals" my skin into a very nice healthy surface. I can't live without this stuff and it's an absolute must have for me. It's always gone off the shelves where I live and the last time I replenished the supply (today haha) I went to two stores and only Rite Aid had two left and I snatched them and high-tailed it outta there.

Pros:

Treats existing acne very will. I will put it on a zit and leave it on over night and the next morning the zit will be gone or it will be much smaller.

Cons:

Doesn't prevent acne, just treats the ones you get.

Great product. The whole proactive system didn't work for me, but i continue to use the face mask because it actually treats your acne.

Pros:

Totally eliminates oily skin! Eliminates or drastically reduces acne break-outs. Works quickly, lasts all day.

Cons:

None! (Smells a little funny, but no big deal.)

I am 50 years old and have had acne for more than 35 years. I have tried absolutely everything over the years, to try to get rid of this depressing condition -- from accutane to smoothbeam to proactiv. You name it, I used it. Some of these products helped to reduce my acne -- but none has ever (I mean ever!) worked as well as Pernox. I stumbled upon this product online about a month ago, while looking for something "new" to try on breakouts -- turns out this product has been around for decades. I just wish one of the many dermatologists I have been to over the years had let me in on this "secret." It is a miracle -- dries up my forever-oily skin, minimizes pores, reduces zits to nearly-none for me. It doesn't seem to dry you out toooooo much (like straight salicylic acid products). I just hope it keeps on working this well in the future -- so far so good, and from reviews I have read, apparently other people have used it for many, many years with consistently good results. It has given me a great deal of hope, in what has often seemed like a hopeless-to-cure condition. I highly recommend Pernox to anyone else who has literally tried everything to rid themselves of this cursed affliction! This came closer to doing that for me, than anything else currently out there. (And it's a lot less expensive than most treatments, too!) I'm a very private person, not given to reviewing products online (in fact this is my first ever). But I really want to pass this information on to fellow acne sufferers -- I wish I'd known about it 30+ years ago! I hope it works for you too.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Irritated my skin
broke out with a rash
Worst pimples ever

It was good for the first week. It made my skin break out so bad that I am embarrassed to show my face in public. I used it for 3 weeks and it gave me the worst acne I have ever had in my life. I sent it back a week ago and my face is still a mess. If you buy this you will just get pimples in a bottle. Worst product ever!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
