Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Flattens zits

Cons:

Terrible scarring when zits are dried up

This product is horrible. It actually made my acne worse. It seems to work overnight, but really what it does is dry out your acne to the point of irritation. It ends up leaving a scar. I never used to scar before, and now I have several dark/red spots where there was a zit about 2 months ago.

Pros:

Feels pretty good on the skin. Not too harsh, but not too fine. It has a bit of a cooling effect.

Cons:

Smells BAD. Does not clear away blackheads or minimize pores. It actually causes little whiteheads on my face whenever I use it!

I used this product every 2 or 3 days for exfoliation, except that it doesn't seem to be exfoliating anything. I am very disappointed in this product. It does not at all do what it says it will and I find the smell pretty offensive. I am throwing away a bottle that is half full; something that I have NEVER done in my life.

Pros:

I don't have severe acne...... But this clears it up very quickly. In about a day, but you have to use is 2-3 times a day.

Cons:

Burns! package not very big, smells terrible, peels off if you put on too much, and you have to use it 2-3 times for best results. (i can't remember to do that every time i have a pimple)it is also very pricey

It works very well but it does burn. It's well worth it though. It's very pricey for something so small. I did buy it again

Pros:

I use the standard size one that's just for general use for my face. Much cheaper and I'm pretty certain it is more or less the same thing.

Cons:

It's just a moisturizer (shocking, I know).

I like it. It smells nice and softens my skin majorly.

Pros:

Love the sent. Works well with my skin after time. Non leak packaging. Bottles small enough to store easily.

Cons:

Toner comes out way too fast. Pills do nothing so i dont take them. Takes time to start working. Must use consistently or will not work.

It worked great with my skin which i have been trying to clear up forever. All of my friends were amazed.

Pros:

I bought this last night in the kit with the face wash and spot treatment. After using the kit once last night and once this morning my skin looks surprisingly better! my blemishes have almost cleared up completely:)

Cons:

price. $20 for the kit. still cheaper than proactive and about the same as other acne kits in the aisle.

try it, I assume it works for some and doesn't work for others.

Pros:

It makes it smaller nd sumtimes reduces the redness. Smells good

Cons:

way too pricey nd can give you reverse results if you dont use it correctly.

give it try
May 27, 2007

Pros:

Tightens skin, make skin look nice, dries out acne not your face, smells good, you can feel it working. It makes acne appear small. It's AFFORDABLE!

Cons:

The hole that it comes out of is too big and you need to get cotton pads to apply it on.

GET IT NOW if you have moderate acne and oily skin.

Pros:

Not irritating, skin feels smooth

Cons:

def. didnt work in 3 days, no true results yet

I think its good for prevention, but use something else if you already have acne.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
