Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

This srub makes your skin really really smooth, has a nice smell too.Slather it onto yr face, esp on the pimples and acnes and leave it on for 5 min b4 rinsing them off.Blemishes are reduced after 3 days of use.

Cons:

The beads are really really huge.DO NOT SCRUB THEM ON YOUR FACE IF U HAVE LARGE PORES as srubing them will only make your pores larger.TRUST ME! just slather them onto yr face and leave on for 5 min.

Well, the tube is huge, price is cheap and can last u for quite a few months. The smell is really nice too.Just make sure u dont srub them if u have large pores. Just a note*this product is much expensive in singapore than in the us! so envious of ppl staying in the us...

Pros:

I use this along with the other products in the Clean and Clear Acne Advantage Kit. I've been on Tazorac, Plexicon, the Pill, BenzaClin, and RetinA over the last 10 years and finally decided to try something over the counter. It works well!

This tingles a bit but I don't mind. it only takes a small amount in the morning and then again before bed time. it works extremely well with the other two products in the acne advantage control kit you can pick up for $20 total at any pharmacy. I am really very pleased with the results of this cleanser. often i use an eye make-up remover first (because you shouldn't use this on them) and then proceed with the cleanser. i am 23 yrs. old and would def. recommend this!

The price is great, I don't have to get a prescription and i'm just overall very pleased with the kit. It has truly cleared up my skin when used properly. I wash once in the morning and once at night following the directions on the kit package. It has made my skin less oily and if i can feel something coming up during the day, i put on the spot treatment at night and by the next morning it is gone. fabulous!

Pros:

I found that by using the Pure Zone product my skin was much cleaner. My face was clearing from Acne and I was upset when I could not find this product in my area.

Cons:

I can't find this product line anywhere.

I want this product back on the shelf. I have even tried the Pro Activ and it is not nearly as good as the Pure Zone. My niece and I are very angry that a product that worked so well is discontinued.

Pros:

Love it! Love the feel of the products and it smells like peppermint. My Arbonne rep is very fun and is very knowledgeable about the products. You can buy the set or individual items.

Cons:

A little pricey but getting rid of acne is worth the cost.

I would recommend it for sure. I buy the product set.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
