Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

works well- my skin looks a lot better from just a week ago. I love the cleanser- it makes your skin tingle.

Cons:

Does not work in the advertised time- 1 day? Yeah, right. But I knew going into it that it wouldn't work that fast.

I have only used this for 8 days and my skin looks so much better. It's not perfectly clear, but it's getting close.

Pros:

I am telling you girls the truth. I used to have so much zits on my forehead and it was embarrassing. I used it around the forehead and within the next morning, it shrinked. ALOT I MUST SAY.. I've been using it for about 5 years and it's still workin

Cons:

The only thing that isn't all that great is, your skin can get dry. That's why you wear face lotion when you're done washing your face. Once you do that, you should be good to go! :D TRUST ME... well, it works on me.. so yeah..

Some people may not like it because your face gets dried up, but like I said, use lotion to see if it helps, if not, it's up to you whether you want to use it anymore or not. It doesn't hurt to try something new.

Pros:

Reduced The size and severeness of my acne quickly. Within days.

Cons:

Since i started using this, the corner of my eyes have been a little red and sore. Not sure if this has to do with the product, but i'm putting that out there.

It's just great for Clearing skin of acne fast. It does tingle a little sometimes, but hey, at least we know it's working. I bought the entire kit, and it's doing wonders.

Pros:

smelled alright
worked for awhile
felt good on my skin

Cons:

made me breakout really badly after awhile
dried my cheeks out

This product worked for about 2 weeks and then i had one of the worst breakouts of my life. Even though it didn't work for me, I guess it's worth a shot because I know other people that have used this product and have great skin.

Pros:

It makes my face feel fresh and clean right away. It's softer right away. Smell is ok. Didn't make my skin dry.

Cons:

Doesn't really reduce pimples or size of pimples. Made my face really shiny. Didn't reduce redness.

I've been using this product for about three weeks, and it hasn't really done anything besides make my face feel soft and clean. It does not do a good job of clearing acne.

Pros:

This product didn't make my acne worse or anything but it certainly doesn't work within 8 hours...thats for sure!

Cons:

it doesn't work within 8 hours... i dont know why they say that- they have to know that it doesn't work like that.

if you have really bad acne, i would give it a try... just dont believe the 8 hour thing but try it anyway. it might help for some people... it cleared a little of my acne!

Pros:

goes on easy, foams up good, feels great and clean afterwards, helps acne heal, helps oily skin.

Cons:

it may dry up skin a little bit for some people, doesnt completly get rid of body acne.

this is a great product i would definatly recomend it to a freind to help with acne. though it may not be the-best product out there it is well worth the price and worth a shot.

Pros:

smell, vegan, not harsh and drying to my very dry skin

Cons:

waiting for it to come in the mail

I have used it for 4 days on my dry, yet breakout prone skin and I am imoressed. My minimal blemishes are not gone but the redness around them is! My face feels soft and smoother. I am more used to a heavier moisturizer that is thicker and richer, but I am getting used to this one. Haven't tried the vitamins yet. So far I would recommend it in addition to eating well and taking better care of your body from the inside out!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
