Pros:

Works really well to eliminate the appearance of Rosacea, too.

Cons:

Allergic reactions...read up on them be aware that the allergic reactions do not happen immeadiatley upon taking. My symptoms came on after two weeks of using. I've never had an allergic reaction to anything until now. I took Tetracycline years ago without a problem. Doc said our bodies change and obviously, mine did.

I think it's a very effective pill, perhaps for short term use and it is not a pill for everyone.

Pros:

Clears Acne and any other bacteria in your body

Cons:

It takes a while for you to see results, and you have to plan your meals around it

You have to take a lot of vitamins while on this pill, and you won't get any side effects.

Pros:

-Cleared all acne
-Inexpensive
-Easy to take
-No side effects

Cons:

-Doesn't help hyper-pigmentation
-Took 3 months to start working

So I almost never bother to review products, but I felt that the reviews on this site for Minocycline are a tad misleading, so I wanted to add my experience. There seems to be a lot of reviews involving side effects for this drug, and I hope that doesn't deter someone from trying it. The amount of people who experience side effects from a drug are a small minority, and those who have a positive reaction usually don't take the time to review products on acne websites any longer, so it's likely that the reviews are negatively skewed. And personally, this medication worked wonders for my moderate/severe acne. After trying tons of over-the-counter acne systems and products, Minocycline was the only thing to keep my skin consistently clear, so I believe it's certainly worth trying if you're dealing with persistent skin problems. That being said, every person reacts to drugs differently, so if you choose to try Minocycline, you should follow the directions of your doctor and carefully monitor your health for any adverse effects.

Pros:

Works!
No side effects so far...

Cons:

Nothing (except for bad taste)

I have been using this for a couple of months now, and it has helped my acne TONS! I have it on my face and back, and a little on my chest. I take one pill in the morning with a glass of water. I use it along with some other prescription things, and it's been a big help. The only thing bad is the taste but that's just me :p

Pros:

- only antibiotic that cleared my acne to some extent
- Very effective
- Did not relapse after stopping use.

Cons:

- Stomach Aches
- Slightly heavy breathing

I would recommend this to anyone provided you have no serious side effects from taking them as it is very effective. It was the only antibiotic which cleared my acne and I only took it for ten days as I started to develop heavy breathing because of it. But for that side effect I would have completed the course.

Pros:

I have been taking mino for a month now and I can defiantly tell there is a major improvement in my skin. I 19 years and had clear skin until about 9 months ago when i began to suffer from moderate to severe acne with 4-5 cystic acne formed every month or so. I have tried multiple products through out my struggle and this seems to be helping me the best!

Cons:

Expensive
Makes stomach more sensitive
Hassle having to take two pills a day

I have seen drastic results in the past month, with two more prescriptions left i hope it only improves more. I would recomend this product to those who are willing to take an antibiotic to treat their acne.Good luck to those suffering with acne!

Pros:

Worked great for about 8 months.
Most effective thing I have used so far.

Cons:

Stopped Working.

This product does work. It gave me a nice confidence boost. I remember waking up and not even feeling like I had to look in the mirror to see what was on my face. It didn't 100% clear me up, but it was certainly very close to it. I started college this year and it was great meeting people for the first time and not having to worry about my skin. Sadly though, I started getting acne while still on it after using it for about 8 months. I have been off it it for a month now; my skin pretty much went right back to where it was before taking it. I experienced no side affects and did not find it to impact my daily life in a negative way whatsoever. I was able to do everything like I had before the pill. I'm not really sure what I should do next. I don't really want to do accutane since I have avoided it this long. (I'm 18) However, it was so nice having great skin, I really want it back. For now, just back to dealing with waking up with new pimples every day. /:

Pros:

Cleared moderate to severe acne.

Cons:

When stop taking, acne comes back worse.
Bad reaction to sun (sun spots on face)
Easily bruised and bruises do not go away.

I loved this product because it worked!! I took this medicine for 4 years. I had NO pimples, it was awesome!! However, I play soccer and would get bruises which would not go away due to the medication. Also, I would get sun spot on my face which do not go away. I had to get some $500 Obagi system to remove sun spots. I became concerned about taking the medicine for 4 years so I stopped and my acne came back worse than I remember.

Pros:

It really does help with fight acne or cystic acne like mine.

Cons:

none really. I became nauseas randomly 15weeks into taking the medicine so i stopped taking it for a few days and changed my diet (added more protein) and started up again and was fine and haven't experienced that again.

In my opinion it does work it just takes what seems like FOREVER to see results. I started to see some change by the 7th week. It still was rough but a lot better then when i started that is for sure! Another thing is it will get worse before it get's better. Im still currently on mino and it's been ?25weeks and luckily i'm not immune yet and i'm actually seeing the best skin i've had since i got this random cystic acne last year. I would suggest asking you doctor for clindamycin phosphate topical solution to add to your treatment. Since i've been using that duo and eating lots of veggies everynight along with taking fish oil, a multivitamin, and biotin. I've seen such a major difference and effectiveness in my face. I wish i would have done it sooner. Hopefully you don't have to be on mino for as long as i have though. I finally found a doctor who will prescribe me isotretinoin (aka accutane) because i do not want to have to depend on taking mino forever just to keep my skin kinda ok and then go through hell again with my face if i were to become immune to the antibiotic. I don't recommend isotretinoin i think you should try everything before going to this extreme but i've exhausted all options and treatments and ready to try this last one. Goodluck to all fighting this hard fight!!!

Pros:

reduces acne until it is completely gone!
It works!

Cons:

None!

I am 17 and up until now I never really had a lot of acne... Then my senior year came and maybe it was cause of the stress but my acne got worst.. I tried everything! Creams, Clinique, tea tree oil, natural stuff nothing worked! Then I went to see my doctor and he prescribed me Minocycline! It works! It took about two weeks for me to see the effects but now I hardly have any pimples! And if I do they are very small and last a day or two! If you have acne that won't go away this is for you! It helped boost back my confidence! I take 50mg once a day! I won't stay on this pill for a long time probably 3 to 5 months! Hopefully my acne will be gone for good by then! :) This stuff works!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
