Pros:

It has worked really well for me i have been on it for 3 weeks and i have noticed a vast difference. I has on Doxy for the longest time and it just stopped working so i then i went to minocycline.

Cons:

I would say the dry lips, but i am also in iraq so that could be another reason. If you drink lots of water like you should be with any antibiotic you will be fine.

I am a in the army and overseas so my acne had gotten worst then ever the bottom line is this worked better then doxy and me being a medic i prescribed it to me and it was free.

Pros:

stopped my cycle of breakouts, clearer skin

Cons:

lightheaded, nausea, having to plan it around my meals(& vice versa), muscle pains

started it a couple weeks ago, and have noticed much improvement in my skin. i haven't had any breakouts since, only a couple pimples at a time but my complexion is still horrible. the side effects are horrible but not so bad since i decreased my intake to half a week ago.

Pros:

Noticed some difference - not significant as of yet. This is my 4th week.

Cons:

Serious side effects - extreme nausea, dizzy, my world is spinning, lifeless, exhausted and tingly.

Cons = NOT WORTH IT! After starting this only four weeks ago, my own hell started two weeks ago and has affected my ability to function on a daily basis (e.g. sleeping all weekend, taking sick days off work, too tired to see friends, etc). Since dealing with acne since I was 12 years old and trying many different meds, these side effects are definitely not worth it!

Pros:

Taking pills is easier than putting on a cream

Cons:

Didn't see any acne improvement, made me incredibly dizzy and light headed, also made my neck muscles spasm randomly. Symptoms stopped a day or two after I stopped taking it.

I didn't see any difference in my acne while on this medicine, so I can't give it a good review. It made me super dizzy such that driving and working was disorienting.

Pros:

This stuff works really well i get breakouts mainly on my shoulders, back and face.I took this for about 4 months I could take my shirt off with out being embarressed.I would truly take this for the rest of my life if i could.:)

Cons:

It came back and now its rare that i take my shirt off sometimes.I wish i could take something that will permanently get rid of this damn acne.:(

"minocycline" it really works while i was taking it but now its been about 4months since i last took my pill, and its back again I honestly i dont know what else 2 do.maybe i can try a stronger dosage next time but i tried everything in the book and nothing worked like "minocycline".I would definitely recommend this pill 4 any 1 whith acne no matter how mild or severe...oh yeah one more thing every one is different so the sideaffects can differ from 1 person to the next. But 2 be very honest i had no sideaffects.well 2 all the people out their struggling with mild or severe acne good luck and dont give up.:)

Pros:

Definitely cleared up my cystic acne.

Cons:

Although I have taken this some years ago, this time was very different. Within a couple of days I began to experience a very achy upper back and then arms, lower back, and legs. I didn't make the link to the Minocen b/c this didn't happen in past.

This time, though, the dermatologist had me on two pills a day - 100 mg each. In the past I was on one pill a day, though was told to take two right away and then one a day. So perhaps it was just too much. When I began to get really concerned with how I was feeling, and found online that this side-effect was not uncommon, I immediately stopped taking them. That was two days ago. I'm still a bit achy but not like I was. Now I'm afraid to go back on the drug, even one a day. I was only on it for a few weeks and the acne has cleared. So I'm thinking if it doesn't come back I'll just leave it for now. If it does, I'll revisit the derm (when I can get in!) and see what he says.

Pros:

Minocycline completely cleared my skin!!

Cons:

none. I have no side-effects at all

I am 17 and have tried every product out there besides Accutane. Minocycline cured my acne. It began working after the first week, and by the end of the first month, my skin was clearer than it has ever been since i was 12. Taking it is easy, you only take one pill a day, you can take it with food or without, day or night, and it doesnt make you feel nauseous. I have been using it for 4 months, and it has not stopped working, as most prescriptions have for me.

Pros:

Cleared a little of my acne I THINK.

Cons:

Can't eat before or after medicine...

I think it helped; however, my regime contains both retin-A and Cleocin-T gel. The first week after using it, my skin got worse! it was HORRIBLE!!!! I skipped school for a week, before my skin actually got better. I looked like a burn victim for at least a week... Hopefully this will help clear my acne. I see SOME improvements though.

Pros:

it cleared my skin up completely when the correct dosage was prescribed.

Cons:

having to take it twice a day for a couple of months, although it is such a small inconvenience, it's barely worth mentioning.

I was first prescribed only 100mg a day, and I used it for 6 weeks...but my skin only got worse. My doctor concluded that I was not responsive so she took me off of it...a couple months later I saw a derm, who told me what of course I had known before, that it takes more than 6 weeks to see improvement. So, she put me back on, but at 200mg per day. My skin cleared up within weeks! Please, if you have tried this at 100mg and it hasnt worked, try 200mg. Minocycline is the first thing that has cleared my skin...ever

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
