Pros:

Cleaned skin up for a few weeks.

Cons:

My body must be too used to it after a year and a half for it to work anymore. Every time I reduce my dosage I get a breakout worse than any I've experienced before. I finally decided that today I am going to stop taking it and try 'the regimen'.

Works for a while, but when it stops working it only creates problems when you try to get off it. Though I have been battling with a little bit of depression, I cannot say that it is or is not due to this medication. The effects of Minocycline may vary for each user, but it did not work very well for me. I am now forced with taking accutane before I go to college or suffering my acne as it is.

Pros:

Worked quickly and cleared up problem area on chin. Noticed little/no side effects once used to it.

Cons:

After one year I began to get constant whiteheads, blackheads and red spots on ONLY my nose. This is an area where I never had a problem before. But if I go off minocycline I break out in other areas.

Now I have to try other meds to clear up nose. I'm 30 and I am tired of this!!!

Pros:

it is a pill it doesnt take long to consume while using a topical medication (lotion or cream) takes longer

Cons:

i havnt seen any changes on my face back or chest

ive been using minocyclin 100 mg once a day for a week now and i see no change wat so ever, it actually looks a little worse. Also my pimples leave marks on my skin like ther brown and red (discoloration) and how do i get rid of it i hate it.

Pros:

1. Acne has minimized and I never wake up with a sudden break out (as with other medications) 2. Face is never too dry, only when I use other ace medications with this one
3. Never makes me feel sick

Cons:

1. Price
2. I still have acne after 3 months

So far it helps more than it hurts, but I want to continue to use it and see what happens.

Pros:

it really works at first, cheap, easy to get and to use, not a pain in but like accutane.

Cons:

time passes your acne comes back wrose then ever, you will want more but your docter will get you off it if you been on it too long then thats where the real troubles in acne begins right after!

its really good at first but as time passes like it did for me it will just be a waste of money!

Pros:

Did totally clear up my face, back and chest within about a month.

Cons:

Side Effects. Horrendous dizziness and nausea after taking it, then difficulty sleeping, blurred vision and constantly upset stomach developed after 3 months amongst muscle pains, mood swings and change in behaviour.

I went to the doctors today and have had to come off this because it is totally causing havoc in my body. I am really pleased with the results but I simply cannot cope with the side effects any longer. I know some people stay on this for years with no problems - everyone is different. I wasn't really haooy going on antibiotics in the first place. I am gutted to have to come off something that works but it really wasn't worth all the other problems it caused me! I'm now trying Duac to help keep my skin in the condition the Minocycline has helped it into. This was the first thing to clear up my acne after 8 years of trying!
March 2, 2008

Pros:

For the first couple of weeks my skin felt clearer and I had fewer outbreaks

Cons:

I was okay for a couple of weeks. After that I developed hives, with joint pain, and swollen lips.

The pain associated with the allergies is not worth the clearer skin

Pros:

I took it for 2 years. Got rid off my acne. Cleared my face. Worked great!

Cons:

One day I started feeling really bad, nausea, sever headache, dizziness, etc. I had to stop taking it.

It's worth to try it until the side effects get to you :) Not good to take antibiotics for a long period of time.
February 26, 2008

Pros:

Noticed some difference - not significant as of yet. This is my 4th week.

Cons:

Serious side effects - extreme nausea, dizzy, my world is spinning, lifeless, exhausted and tingly.

Cons = NOT WORTH IT! After starting this only four weeks ago, my own hell started two weeks ago and has affected my ability to function on a daily basis (e.g. sleeping all weekend, taking sick days off work, too tired to see friends, etc). Since dealing with acne since I was 12 years old and trying many different meds, these side effects are definitely not worth it!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
