Pros:

It did alright cut my acne in half.

Cons:

It never fully got ride of my acne. I was one of the very rare cases that developed lupus from this drug. Very horrible experience that I never want to go through again. If you use this I suggest not to use it any longer than 6 months.

The longer you are on this drug the higher risk you are in to getting some weird side effects

Pros:

It helped my acne

Cons:

I had the worst side affect from it. I got psuedo-tumor cerebri (which is basically a brain tumor!) I had double vision and a blind spot because of it. I had to get spinal taps to help relieve the problem. I was very, very sick from it!

You can use it, but stay out of the sun (because I didn't) and if the doctor increases your dosage, be very careful!!

Pros:

easy to swallow,cheap with insurance

Cons:

Constantly vomitting and dizzy. Cleared up the face within a week but constantly feeling tired and light headed.

Would not reccomend it! There has to be another and safer alternative to this stuff.

Pros:

Cons:

It took about 3 and a half weeks to start working on my face . Also used Retin-A Cream thast gets prescribed with Minocycline on my back and chest this caused a rash, so have stoped using the cream and stuck to just tablets

So far im happy with it, my face is much better then it used to be! Not sure about chest and back yet will keep you posted. = ]

Pros:

Clears up facial and body acne. Took about 2 or 3 months to see improvement. Covered by insurance.

Cons:

GAVE ME MELASMA!!! Post inflammation pigmentation on my forehead and melasma on my upperlip and top of forehead.

Will never take antibiotic long term again. Melasma is very hard to treat and once you get it - you wish you were dealing with the acne again. Please be careful with long term antibiotics - they can cause long term issues and many doctors just write out RX's without informing us of side effects.

Pros:

Works very well.

Cons:

At around week 12 it started to make my stomach make weird growling noises. I have yet to find a solution to this so if anyone knows what it might be/what might help it please post...Also you MUST take this for 12 weeks. It did not help till week 12.

You must, and I mean must, take this within 2-3 hours of eating. A schedule I used was 8:15 AM take one 8 0z glass of water, swallow a 100mg minocycline pill, drink another 8 oz of water. At 11:45 am-12:15 pm I at a massive lunch such as vegetables, 2 pieces of chicken, rice, cookies and an 8 oz glass of water. At 8:15 pm I drank one 8 oz glass of water, swallowed a 100 mg minocycline pill and finished off with another 8 oz glass of water. At around 9:30 pm, I would wash my face with a soap, dry my face off, put hot water on a rag and dab it on my face, dry it off (remember to pat your face when drying it). I then put some Gel (the doctor gave me this as well) on the affected areas (be sure to percisely place this it may cause dry skin) and since it doesn't dry all that well, I had a little portable fan on Power 2 and just left it infront of my face/neck for about 5 minutes. Then I went to sleep. (change pillow cases every 3 nights/wash them). Follow this and you will be acne free.

Cons:

Pros:

Clears you up, pretty fast. It really works well

Cons:

Well, I broke out in HIVES and was bedridden for weeks. It was the worst two weeks of my life and I had to get hospitalized and my throat closed up and everything. Not fun. But it got rid of my acne fast. Your chocie

Take a small dose and wait 2 weeks. If you dont get an allergic reaction, drug yourself up because it makes acne disapeer

Pros:

I used this for about 2 months and saw significant drops in outbreaks. I used in combination with benzyl Peroxide 8% washing face in morning and night and also using differen at night.

Cons:

Face was and is still red and dryed out. Once I stopped taking this pill 4 days ago now I have breakouts all over my face :( Was hoping I could just stop and maintain the results but apparently not. Also It did make me feel like crap most the time./

Worth a try but with all the noted side effects it comes down to personal opinion and how your body responds

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
