Pros:

None

Cons:

#1. Made my fair skin extremely sensitive to sun, heat, excessive emotion.
#2. Although the redness eventually went away, after coming off mino, my acne returned worse than before in places in which I was previously clear.

Wish I had never gone on it.

Pros:

NONE

Cons:

RASH, HIVES, WORSE ACNE

My son is 14 & was put on Miocycline for body acne. After the first week he was complaining that the acne was getting worse & I told him to just wait it out & that sometimes it will get worse before it gets better. Boy was I wrong! He has now been on this for 3 weeks & I got a call today from the school nurse to come pick him up because he has a terrible rash all over him. I couldn't believe what I saw. He has welts all over his back & arms. It itches him too, & these things have formed over top of everywhere he had a pimple. If he even touches his skin one will form. They are white raised welts with a red rash around them. When I spoke to the doctors office they said it sounds like an allergic reaction to the medicine. So 3 weeks on this stuff & this is the result. I feel terrible for him because something that was suppose to help his acne actually made it 10 times worse! Do some research before getting on this medication.

Pros:

NONE

Cons:

It made my skin much worse.

I had such high hopes for this medication as it was the first time I had gone to the dermatologist and been prescribed something. Before this I had always tried over the counter stuff. I was taking 100 mg dosage and it made my skin horrible. I went from having bad skin to the worst skin I have ever had. The pimples that formed were HUGE and I still have scars. I was on it for two months, hoping it would get better, but it only got worse, until finally I stopped the medication.

Cons:

THROAT HURT!

my throat hurt ssooo much when I was on this. I accidentally forgot them one time when I ended up sleeping over at a friends house so I missed my regular dosage...long story short, by mid-afternoon the next day my throat didn't hurt.

Pros:

None.

Cons:

Not a good product if you are wanting to clear up your acne in a short period of time. Many side effects without hardly any good results.

I have taken this medication for about a week and a half along with Differin gel and I have not noticed any improvement whatsoever with my acne. If this product works, it surely must take a long time! Considering that I have only small whiteheads. The side effects are annoying. Since taking the product, I feel very warm regarding that no one else around does. My head feels like its on fire and I have been getting headaches daily. I have been having bloating, stomach cramps, and diarhea on a regular basis since taking it. Also I feel sluggish and woozy. Not to mention lightheaded and my allergies has acted up. Overall, I feel awful. It would be worth feeling the side effects if it actually was effective on my acne. I highly do not recommend the use of this product. Its results are not worth the side effects.

Pros:

it will kill acne causing bacteria

Cons:

causes ulcers, liver damage, lupus, etc, etc, etc. anyone who takes this poison is an absolute idiot, i'm sorry and i pray for your longterm health. you might as well be on crystal meth, but as long as your face is clear i spose it's ok right?

i tried one 100mg pill 5 minutes before looking at these reviews. seeing all the terrible side effects and long term damage this drug causes i immediately regreted putting into my body. i was dizzy and had blurred vision within a half hour and at about the 7th hour i had joint pain, a head-ache, swollen lips and eyelids, and my lips were beginning to chap. i will never ever try this again nor will i recomend it to anyone, ever!

EXCERCISE,DRINK LOTS OF WATER--NO DRUG CAN PERMENANTLY ELIMINATE ACNE (EXCEPT ACUTAINE BUT THAT HAS TOO MANY SIDE EFFECTS).DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
July 19, 2007

Pros:

I took this for 3 months and after a month nearly all of my spots were gone.

Cons:

After three months i started to get severe joint pain (cant hardly walk), tierdness, lack of appetite and liver malfunction. I have now been diagnosed with the auto immune disease Lupus. Caused by taking Minocycline.

DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG! I would not recommend this medication to anyone. The side affects are too risky and my docter did not tell me anything about the side affects when she prescribed it to me. Lupus is a serious disease and I would much prefer to have acne. The Lupus symptoms can take up to a year to go after stopping taking the Minocycline. SO BEWARE its not worth it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
