A more dangerous way of using benzoyl peroxide that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. However, when used properly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin without the addition of antibiotics.

Pros:

Dries skin, my skin is naturally oily so now its pretty much normal.Significant difference in the amount of acne on my face.I suffer from moderate acne nothing severe and I've been using this medication for 4 months now. My skin is beautiful.

Cons:

Certain areas have become a little too dry and I hate the white stuff that appears when it dries. But all in all I find it to be effective

I think it works well for me, but that may be because I have moderate acne. I controls my oil production and I my skin is really smooth, an besides a couple black heads my skin is flawless. I'll give it 2 more months.

Pros:

It made my acne just a little bit better than my previous medication...

Cons:

- Dries skin - Leaves white traces on the face after it dries - Must be refrigirated - Bleaches pillow cases/t-shirts

My dermatologist prescripted me this after my Differin/Clyndoxyl combo stopped working and I started breaking out bad again. After 4 months, I still have big breakouts on my cheeks, I still have red marks, I still have blackheads. My skin is just slightly better than it was before starting the treament.

Pros:

I am 21 now, i used it when i was about 14 and it cleared my face within a week. I tried everything before this.

Cons:

It made my face itch real bad and i was red. but everyone thought that i had a nice red glow lol. im so stupid because i forgot all about this product when i stopped using it my acne came back and i've been searching for a cure since then.

it worked fast for me in the past and i'm calling a dermatologist right away to have flawless skin!

Pros:

Can clear up smaller lesions. Works very well for some people.

Cons:

Redness, irritation, stinging, burning, bleaches fabrics, has to be refrigerated, thick, goopy texture. Seems to be less effective over time.

Product caused major facial irritation without reducing acne significantly. Ruins linens and clothes worse than actual bleach.

Pros:

Very good at drying up pimples that are already present. Feels cool to the touch when applied. No need to worry about contamination because they come in packets. & easy to travel with. (Can take on the plane!!)

Cons:

Very drying when first used. Can leave a white -looking film on your face(use a moisturizer if necessary). May not be enough product in the packets.

The first night I used this product, I saw how drying it was. So I ONLY use it at night. Never in the morning. Always wash your face with a gentle cleanser (e.g. Cetaphil, Dove, Basis) & nothing with harsh chemicals. It works because its a combo of two different gels 5% Benzoyl Peroxide & 3% Benzamycin. So best of both worlds! My face started to quickly clear up pimples that were already on my face, but since it was drying, i only used a gentle SPF moisturizer in the morning.

Cons:

Needs to be stored in the fridge
Runs out quickly

Great, totally recommended Works extremely well on all types of acne

Pros:

Very powerful BP product since it also contains an antibiotic. The combination of both BP and an antibiotic seem to be quite effective. Clears up acne fast only if you apply it in the entire effected area as preventive measure.

Cons:

Once it's dried your face will feel very stiff. Fairly expensive even with insurance copay. Have to store in cool area (stay away from the kitchen cabinets or bathroom since it will get steamed). Have to moisturize heavily.

This product works well. You just have to learn how to use just the right amount and be very regimented about it since you will have to apply a very good moisturizer on to combat the dryness. I don't know if the antibiotics actually does anything or if this is more effective than the 2.5% BP, but this will make your face very dry and stiff for sure.

Pros:

Helps clear skin

Cons:

I use the gel and it has to be refrigerated so not good when traveling or in my dorm (fridge is too cold).

I'd like to find something like this that doesn't have to be kept cold.

Pros:

It definitely helps clear up acne, being most effective with white and blackheads. Cystic acne and pustules just take time, although this product helps eliminate spreading.

Cons:

This severely dries out my skin if I use too much. Little is definitely more with this! I see more results using about a half a pea-sized worth for my entire face. Otherwise my face gets too dry and aggrivates my acne.

This definitely works for all types of acne. Be careful how much you use because it will severely dry your skin. Use a good moisturizer and you should be able to avoid dry, flakey and red skin. Little is more... don't use more than a pea-sized amount at a time.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
