Pros:

very effective product. the only that's ever consistently worked for me. after using retin-a, benzoil/eurythromycin seperately but together and anti-biotics too. i noticed that it not only gets rid of the cysts but helps to keep them from returning

Cons:

bleaches out fabrics

i restate this product was much more effective than using benzoil and eurythromycin simultaneously but in conjunction. in other words benzamycin consists of more than just those two products together. but dermatologists will perscribe them one in the same. at least they have to me. for someone whose suffered from cystic acne from 16 to 36 this is the best treatment i've received. i recomend

Brilliant stuff - works really well, I am having problems getting hold of it too - the Chemist told me that it will be back in production in 2007 - no ideas which month though - any one heard any different?

It seems to be working pretty well. At first, you cannot use it too often because it will dry out your skin. Ive been using it now for two weeks and my red spots defintely look smaller and less red. I have a few new pimples but overall i think it is really helping my skin- much better than if i was using each product seperatly. I was using erythromycn gel for a month or so and it didnt really do anything. This combo seems to be working well. I also like the white residue it leaves... it covers my pimples so it makes me think they arent there!!

Pros:

I noticed fewer breakouts within 2-3 of starting Benzamycin. Within a month, it completely got rid of my awful, painful cystic acne. It's safe to use while TTC or pregnant.

Cons:

It will leave a white film on your face if you use too much.

I still get a few pimples here and there, but this has cleared my face up significantly and completely gotten rid of my cystic acne. I have been on every product out there, and this one worked better than all of them.

Pros:

Cleared my acne noticeably within a week and even works on my back and neck/chest area

Cons:

leaves white on face after it dries

I highly recommend it because it's fast and works so much better than anything else I've ever used before!

Pros:

A great way of clearing up acne without having to take oral medication (which i have done in the past, but has either never worked or had unpleasent side effects)! Easy to use and smells kinda good as well (in a medical kind of way!)

Cons:

I am currently having major problems in buying it at the moment! My pharamacist says they dont make it anymore and im rly upset about it as it is the only thing that works for me (if anyone has an information about whats happening please post asap!)

A great cream, just watch your clothes and pillow cases etc cuz it doesn tend to bleach things! please please please bring benzamycin back on the market!!

Pros:

I've been using Benzamycin for years! My brothers used it too, but they don't any longer, and their faces are still perfectly clear. Clears quickly and effectively

Cons:

Since April 2006, found it is not having any effect on me anymore. They say you don't become immune to BP, but I seem to have? Have not changed any other aspect of my skin routine, but am going to stop using a few things to see how it goes.

I had a great experience with it for several years (at least 5 years!), so I do say use it! Don't know what's going on now, but my face is the same now when I do or do not use it, it makes no difference anymore.

Pros:

quite affordable, and clears acne

Cons:

really dries out your face

i tried this with mixing it with vinegar and put it on my face as a mask for 2 dies, reapplying as needed and then went off for one week, then i did it again over and over. One night i woke up and all my nasties were gone!!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
