Pros:

Seems to have done it's job well. Acne on back gone very quickly and face improved drastically after only a month. Red marks don't seem to linger anymore but this may not be the drug...

Cons:

Has to be taken with food and can not lie down for half hour after taking it or you will get sick. Got really badly sunburnt (use extra caution outdoors). It's not a long term solution (based on past anti-biotic experiences)

I was prescribed this to take as Malaria prevention for an overseas trip. Before the trip I had been prescribed Roaccutane for my acne. It was orginally bummed because I had to wait a month or so before being able to start Roaccutane as you can get very sick if you take Doxy and Roaccutane at the same time. With two weeks left of Doxycycline I have been very impressed at what it has done for my acne. Things look fantastic. A very nice suprise as I was originally angry about having to wait for Roaccutane so I could take this and prevent Malaria. I have been on antibiotics before though and know that they aren't a long term solution. That is why I am still going to do my four month course of Roaccutane after the doxy finishes. Hopefully though being this clear before starting that will help the process and finally get rid of acne for good!

Pros:

Doryx worked well with a combo of Cleocin- t and Retin-a.

Cons:

Doxycycline Generic did NOT work as well as name brand doryx.

Worked very well for my horrible hormonal chin/lower face area acne. But I do use it with Cleocin-T and Retin-a and do not use generics. Dried the skin out very much but got used to it. Got naus if I didn't take with food. There is a STRONG difference (I found) in the generic version and brand name drug.

Pros:

Clears up skin within a month or two

Cons:

Your body will become immune to the antibiotic which would make it not as effective, and liver problems can arise from staying on this medicine.

This really helped with my acne breakouts. I barely had one pimple while on this medicine. Make sure to take it with a lot of water and at least 2-3 hours before/after you have calcium supplement. Enjoy it while it lasts, because your body will end up becoming immune to the antibiotic and it will no longer work.

Pros:

This completely cleared my skin. I used it with a tretinoid cream which made my face peel really bad but it turned out to be a good exfoliator and now my skin is smoother and less scared. I haven't had a zit on my face in a month. It's amazing.

Cons:

Really dried out my skin in the first month.

Totally worth it. A lot of people complain about side effects but I barely had any. I think the majority of people who take the antibiotic would agree with me. I'm so glad I did this.

Pros:

It started to clear up my skin within 72 hours of starting it, I take 100mg two times a day.

Cons:

I haven't found any yet, I've not had the upset stomach, but then I am eating probiotic yogurt two times a day, which has helped me in the past when on antibiotics.

I had cystic acne, this is the first thing that has worked in a long long time. I fully recommend it. I am just hoping I can stay on it for a while, I am seeing a dermatologist in a few weeks time, these were prescribed by my family doctor, I'll see what she has to say about being on doxycycline then.

Pros:

Wow my face is literally almost gone from acne except for a few tiny pimples here and there. I just have some red dots from previous acnes but those will subside over time.

Cons:

takes patience, many of us who suffer from acne want a quick fix but this isnt one of them. youll see result within a week or more. it took me about a week and a half to see results.

it's great! takes a little time but it's all worth it when you have a pizza face haha

Pros:

This product really works! I've been using it for exactly two months now. I had an extreme case of severe acne with cysts and inflammation, it was absolutely horrible. I started noticing visible results within a week. My face is very clear now.

Cons:

Don't lie down for at least 30 mins after taking it because it might give you throat ulcers. Might cause upset stomach. If you forget to take it for just one day, breakouts start again.

Doxycycline 50mg is GREAT. I had severe acne and this product saved my skin from disaster. It's wonderful with minimal side effects. It has worked wonders for me.

Pros:

Worked within the first 2 weeks I started taking it.

Cons:

Gives upset stomach if not taken with food or enough food. Also doesn't work when taken with milk.

Cheap, easy, effective but stomach ache can be pretty obnoxious. almost all my acne is gone and only one breakout since starting.

diareah
Not all that bad. I take them 2X a day without food. Doesn't bother me all that much

Pros:

Works fast (for me)
Cheap
No side effects

Cons:

none so far!

I've had mild acne for about 4 years now. This past year it has become worse. I've been breaking out in combination acne (nodules included). I went to my dermatologist and he prescribed me Retin-A micro with docycycline. I was in the middle of a pretty bad break out at the time and it cleared up within 2 days! I highly recommend the use of the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator 2 times a week with treatment - it does a great job of sloughing off dead skin. IMPORTANT: I've read some posts here about people who are using Retin-A with Benzoyl Peroxide and not seeing results. DO NOT use the two together! BP neutralizes the effects of Retin-A rendering it useless. The Retin-A web site states this!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
