Gave me the worst breakouts of my life
I have struggled with acne for five plus years and I wanted to try this regimen before I decided to go on accutane. I have tried a million and one prescriptions and other over the counter products (seriously not an overstatement) and I thought this might just work but sadly it didn't. I was on it for 2 months and had to stop because I had developed cysts around my chin that I had never had before. These breakouts were very painful, deep, and have left a ton of hyperpigmentation and some scars. My skin was horribly dry despite putting on 3+ pumps of moisturizer and 6 drops of jojoba oil. I wanted this to work so badly but my skin just did not react well to it. I have very oily, but easily reactive, sensitive skin for reference.

Best spot treatment I've used
I have lived this product for over a decade and won't use anything else to clear a pimple quickly. It's refreshing to be able to trust a product , as I feel it's rare to find something as good as advertised. I recently used an Acnefree brand spot treatment, because I ran out of the proactive and was desperate. Well, That was an awful experience and now I'm dry, discolored and numb. TRY or STICK with this spot treatment. It's really good!!

This is an AWFUL product
I am extremely upset with this product. I used it for 3 nights on my chin and t zone as well as beside my nose. Washed my face this morning. Moisturized and put on my makeup as usual....I should have known better than to use a cheap drugstore brand , but was out of proactive spot treatment and it was late Long story short, midday my chin goes numb. We're talking it's so so numb it feels odd. I even panicked momentarily that my lip injections had slipped down my face. Lol. Well now I'm twice as numb a couple hours later and my entire chin is a bizarre red /pink /orange color. The surface of my skin where applied looks as if they were painted in a layer of clear paint and I am also starting to get tiny bumps on my chin. Not sure if I'm about To peel , breakout or if they're hives ! Needless to say I'm super frustrated. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Use a different spot treatment.

Not great for sensitive skin
Found this rather harsh for my skin. Lots of redness and flaking!

Beauty Hurts Apparently
It does work very well. You can visibly see the difference within a day. But boy does it burn. My whole face was red, warm, and burned to the touch. Good for oily skin. Don't recommend using it every day. Other than that this works!

Worst product I've ever used on my skin(Effaclar duo plus)
I absolutely hate this product. It was recommended to me by my dermatologist and my skin went from having one or two cysts to cyst-pustule hell in just a couple of days. My cheeks (where I usually breakout) are completely covered with acne (30+ pimples, I'm not even kidding) and the scarring, oh God, the scarring is horrible. I've never had such a horrible reaction to a product like this. I went to look over the ingredients of this thing on cosdna and I found out that it has a bunch of comedogenic ingredients. My skin has never looked this bad before. I'm so depressed.

Good for mild cases
Helps but doesn't cure. Also when you come off it expect a rebound

5 star for sure
I had really bad acne, and really, really bad scarring. I was scepticle to get this at first, just because nothing else was working, but I'm so glad that I did end up getting it! I'm going on month 5 of using this and my skin has never looked better. Almost all of my scarring is gone, and I RARLEY have any breakouts! If you decide to get this (which I hope you do) know that it takes time. I didn't start noticing results till after about a month or two. You just have to be very patient, and you NEED to be consistent! Try to not skip a day at all! Anyway, once you do start noticing results, it just goes up from there and it gets better and better. They say not to wear makeup with it, but I've been wearing makeup and it has still worked just fine. It's seriously the best product ever! I highly recommend it.

Benzac works alright
Hi all, I'm 26 now and suffered from severe acne when I was 25. I purchased the 3 pack benzac cream (facewash, lotion and cream 2.5%) and it worked great from me. Use the facewash 2 times a day (morning and night) and apply a layer of the benzac lotion at night time only. Use the cream (2.5%) lightly at night. Continue for about 6-12 months. The 3 pack should last you that long. The only drawback is scarring which is caused by the cream (2.5) but if used in moderation, it shouldn't be too bad. I've stopped for a couple of months now and my acne has returned a bit on my cheeks only. My advise is continue using benzac as I will now and remember to use the cream in moderation as they are pretty strong on your skin and will cause scarring that can last a long time =)

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
