Pros:

Got rid of most of my pimples within a week, kept my face consistently clear.

Cons:

Around my period I broke out with a few large, red pimples that took over a week to reduce in size.

I had minor acne when I started this product about 2 1/2 years ago. Within a week, my face began to clear up and I definitely noticed an improvement. However, I would normally get one or two large, annoying red pimples around my period that would take a long time to clear. After about a year, my face began to dry out, and began to flake, but I continued using it, scared to get off because of what I heard about stopping. At the beginning of the year (a few monthes ago), I stopped using this and began using Biore. However, I have broken out worse than I ever have and could have imagined after stopping. I have acne on my forehead, cheeks, chin and jawline - worse than before I even began using it. I'm afraid to start using proactiv again, but it may be my only way to clear up my acne.

Pros:

Aboslutely nothing

Cons:

Makes my skin burn and turn bright red, makes skin dry and flaky, pimples are worse now than they were prior to using the system.

I would normally only have a few pimples on my chin, but they were the bright red, deep under the skin, painful to the touch kind of pimple. The Proactive system makes my face turn red and it feels like it's on fire. My skin is so dry and itchy - no amount of moisturizer calms it. I also have more pimples now than I did when I started using the system. Total waste of time and money - try the L'Oreal 3 step system (available at Target and most drug stores). It smells good, and doesn't dry your skin out nearly as bad as Proactive.

Pros:

The moisturizer seemed to work well.

Cons:

I am a 21 year old female with lots of acne problems. I have sensitive skin and have to be carefull of the products I use. I used Proactive for 8 weeks and it didn't help clear up my acne at all. It actually ended up damaging my skin more.

Don't waste your time. Everybody I know who has used it generally has good results at first, then get a lot worse.

Pros:

I love how clear and smooth this BP gel goes on. It's just as effective as 10% BP without the intense stinging. It doesn't leave residue and WON'T clump up when applying to the skin.

Cons:

I don't have anything negative to say about Dan's BP.

IT WORKS!!! I have used everything from Proactive, Klear Action, Acne Free, Clearasil Ultra, Clean and Clear...EVERYTHING...and I have never used a better BP than Dan's. Try it. It goes on clear, won't clump up, is fragrance free, as is sold in huge amounts+++!!! I'm purchasing another 16oz this weekend. I'm in love with this product. I am a customer for life.

Pros:

Refining mask

Cons:

So many

It made my skin red and irritated and didn't help at all. iF ANYTHING IT MADE IT WORSE. The Refining Mask was ok, but i can only use it 1-2 times a week because it really dries my skin up. I was very disapointed.

Pros:

works quickly, affordable, non irritating, aloe in the bp cream, easy... and it WORKS!

Cons:

... the pills aren't the tastiest things on earth, a bit difficult to find

i was so skeptical about this product, but i decided to purchase it based on the concept. i suffer from hormonal acne - a week before my period my nice, clear skin goes haywire and breaks out. there isn't anything that will clear it up until my hormones chill out after my period starts. the problem with this is that i spend the next week or two battle red marks and trying to make my skin settle down. then, by the time it does it starts breaking out again- vicious cycle, i tell you. i was considering birth control but wanted to try this product first. i needed to control my hormones in order to get my skin clear. sadly, the pill is both costly and risky, especially since i don't need it. i was loath to risk serious consequences, so i picked this up as a last hope. i'm running out of space, so let me just tell you that this stuff has worked wonders so far - my skin is lovely and i'm pmsing (i took an aleve to relieve the inflamed acne that was there from before i started)!

Pros:

Makes my skin feel smooth

Cons:

Takes a little time

Has worked best on my oily skin than anything else over the last 25 years. Must use consistently. I've managed to scale it back from the 3 steps to 2 steps in the morning and 2 in the evening and works just as good. Won't use anything else and have just started my teenager on it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
