Pros:

This is the only acne treatment product I've ever found that actually works but doesn't make my skin get red and flaky. I use it every night with the rest of the regimen and I have consistently clear. It has helped with blackheads as well as acne.

Cons:

At first there can be some slight irritation, but if you keep using it every day it will go away in about a week. Much less irritation than most other effective products.

I highly recommend this. It is not too weak and not too strong, so you can use it consistently. My friends keep saying how great my skin looks now. Get it and use it everyday.

Pros:

-Cleared up my skin fast.
-Doesn't leave any residue.
-Easy to use pump.

Cons:

-Dried out skin a lot when I first started using it.
-The smell isn't nice.
-Kind of embarrassed it says "Acne.org" on the bottle.

This product started working to clear up my skin immediately when I started using it. I saw results in days. The only downside was that my skin got very dry as I moved up to the two full pumps twice a day that the regimen suggests. I started using the AHA+ from this site nightly and I reduced the amount of this product to one pump twice a day, and it got rid of the dryness. This product and the AHA+ pretty much saved my face. Thank you Dan!

Pros:

Works for some people

Cons:

It didn't work for me

I just thing proactive works for some and not others. My sister used it with great success so I thought I would try it. I used it for about 1 month, I had a nasty break out so I decided to try it and the breakout cleared while using it, but to best honest I don't think it was the proactive, I think it just healed natrually as breakouts do. I continuted to use it, and I kept on getting new pimples. I am talking large blind pimples and white heads which I normally do get! but I thought proctive was supposed to prevent this!! I decided to stop using it, and my skin is getting better. I have stopped using it for almost a week now, and there is most deffinately an improvement!!! I am now trying Apple cider vinegar topically daily and baking soda to exfoliate once a week. So far so good!

Cons:

it didn't help, i broke out more. no good results.

i don't recommend proactiv solution to anyone. i read some reviews on the net and alot of them said that it doesn't work. i don't know why i didn't trust them. Then, for some reason i just bought proactiv. i used it for a month and it did not work. after four weeks using proactiv, i looked at my face more clearly in the mirror. i got so angry and i chucked the closest thing i can find at the mirror, then it smashed. now, i don't even have the confidence to walk out of my house. so much for "Proactiv is designed to help treat existing acne and prevent future breakouts"....so trust me, i'll tell anyone who would listen : DON'T USE PROACTIV.

Pros:

BEST BP I've ever used, hands down

Cons:

well, I gave the packaging a 4/5, because of the whole ACNE.ORG thing, it just bugs me, I think it would be much nicer if it said D.K.R or DKR or something like that.

This is the best BP I've used. It does make me red like any other BP, but I used the acne.org moisturizer to take care of that (it much have a nice calming agent in it to take redness out even when my face isn't dry or irritable to begin with). I really think the fact that this is pharmeceutical grade and finely milled makes all the difference, it gets deeper down into the pores. Since starting this product, I have not had one breakout, and it's already been about 5 days. Yes, I'm expecting one eventually, it's normal since I'm just starting the regimen, but just surprised I haven't had one already, this stuff is really working!

Pros:

It works without nearly as much irritation as other products.

Cons:

Time consuming, bleaches stuff.

I've been off and on Proactiv for 8 yrs. This last time I went off because I got sick of the regimen (as it is time consuming) and tried to go all-natural. BIG MISTAKE! I''ve never looked that bad in my life. So I started Dan's regimen and did that for 6 weeks but my sensitive skin couldn't handle the dryness & flaking (this was even more time consuming BTW). Then I tried the Differin gel 1% for four weeks and it made my skin itch like crazy! I didn't know what was worse; the acne or the dry, dead skin. So finally I decided to go back to what has always worked for me. And although my skin may never be perfect, Proactiv has kept my acne under control without over-drying and itching. My skin is smooth once again and hydrated. I'm glad I took the time to see what else is out there because now I know that the grass ain't greener on the other side and I have found the best stuff to treat my acne.

Pros:

Better than clean and clear and clearasil and other brands! Gets Rid Of Spots Extremely Fast! Best Product on the market! Good price!

Cons:

Leaves you with very very dry flakey skin, you need to use moisturiser (nivea) to get your skin back to normal.

Quality!!!! Sacrifice spots for dry skin any day! well worth the price! get it bought! you wont be disappointed with its performance!!

Pros:

- works quickly
- get extra products when you order off television
- mask works great!

Cons:

- when discontinuing product you break out
- $$ and hard to find in stores.. i buy off tv
- dries out your skin the first week or so of usage

I noticed a difference very quickly, It got rid of my acne completely. Now even though I did not have horrible acne i still felt self conscious without makeup, after using proactive I didn't have that problem. Although when I stopped using it or skipped using it on the weekend or something I would break out..... Its like crack for your face.... but in my opinion it is worth it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
