Pros:

Has cleared up my acne completely!

Cons:

Bleaches clothes/pillow cases
Takes a while to follow the regimen from start to finish having to wait 5 - 15 mins in-between each step
Flaking of skin early in the treatment

I am 27 year old female and have suffered from acne since the age of... 15? Was started on antibiotics which worked up until the age of 21 ish? Struggled with many different contraceptive pills as all aggravated my acne so am still not taking any birth control now at the age of 27 due to the havoc it wreaks with my skin... I have tried EVERYTHING! I've tried not doing anything (the natural way) - doesn't work, I've tried every pill and cream on the market - really really expensive ones - really really cheap ones.... Recently I tried a course of Jan Marini face peels which worked for a while but then my face soon broke out and its quite harsh stuff and seriously expensive... Then tried to go back to soothing products like Dermalogica and that definitely didn't work! I thought I would give the regimen a go and here I am writing to you with clear skin! I still have scars and I have the odd little spot around my period but nothing like I used to have. And my skin isn't painful any more either! - I'm sure lots of you know what I mean - not only is acne unattractive but it hurts! I have only been using the regimen for about 8-10 weeks but I am very happy. It is tough to start with, lots of flaking of the skin and people look at you a little strangely - but stick with it - its worth it in the end! It took about a month for it to settle down... I really hope it works for anyone reading this review as I know the desperate state we are all in to find something that works.

Pros:

Reduces redness and size of pimple, prevents new pimples, doesn't irritate skin that much, good size package

Cons:

None really.

I use it once a day at night. Put on an even layer that soaks into my skin, fairly fast. Then I put on my spot treatment, and in the morning most of the pimples are gone, and no new ones. I used to have bad acne, but it's getting a lot better.

Pros:

Works great! My skin is smoother and more even, pores are less visible, all in all this works really well for more severe acne.

Cons:

Dries out skin - especially on my neck. I would not recommend putting this where you DON'T have acne. I had one bad breakout after using the regimen for about two weeks, but my skin has been clear ever since!

I have tried A LOT of other products and nothing has come close to this one. I have very sensitive skin and every little spot shows up. The majority of my acne is around my neck and mouth. It is definitely hormonal and did not appear this severe until I turned 19. I would only recommend this system if you have more severe acne as I believe this would dry out anyone with moderate or mild. This is not for the occasional pimple! I use all three products in the morning and evening and no part of my face is dry (although it was dry the first few days) - just my neck is a little dry. I also like that it doesn't make my skin more sensitive (i.e. more prone to sunburn) as I am often in direct sunlight.

Pros:

A 3 in 1 acne kit that combines effective acne remedies like benozyl peroxide and salisyc acid along with a moisturizer. Best of all this kit comes under $25.

Cons:

Can dry your skin out. It can leave your face looking flaky and somewhat ashy.
Minor burn in the skin when sweating due to benozyl peroxide
Can cause itchiness
It worked for me for 2 weeks or so but after that my face started having breakouts again.

I've used this product for a month now and I am experiencing mixed results. After a week into using this product, all of my cyst (large pimple with pus) have dried out and so as the tiny pimples all over my face. The following week, most of these bumps in my face have been almost reduced completely and my face had not seen any new pimples since then. Now the third week is when everything went haywire. My face started to get oily and new pimples are starting to appear. At first i thought this was normal as my dermatologist told me before that its natural to have more breakouts when using a product before you start seeing definitive results. But after a week of patiently waiting my face hasnt gotten any better. And I'm now experiencing itchiness which can be really annoying especially when i try and go to sleep; it bothers throughout the entire day. I don't know if its the lotion that's causing this as I haven't any problems before with benozyl and salysic. Even though i'm only a month into the product, I dont think I will get the same results like i did during the first two weeks of use. The only reason i am recommending this product despite of not working on me is because my sister is enjoying quite a success with this product. Her acne severity is light and after a month of use all of her pimples are gone. I think this product is mainly for light to moderate acnes. This system is good for those with light acnes but I suggest for those people with severe acnes to look for an alternative product.

Pros:

Easy system
Worked very well at first
Moisturizer heals very well
Relatively inexpensive

Cons:

Does not necessarily kept skin completely free of acne over time
Dryness may occur
Moisturizer made skin oily (for me at least)

I have been using this product for the past maybe 2 years to fight my never ending acne battle. I was actually a very faithful customer simply because it was cheap, it worked very well at first and it kept my acne from flaring up. The toner was nice and although the moisturizer made my already oily skin even oilier, it cleared blemishes and scars very well. However, like with all acne products, it has its own negatives. Over the months, it feels as though my skin became so dependent on it that even a missed day would result in massive volcano eruptions on my face. Okay, maybe that last sentence was a bit melodramatic but bottom line, It was like a drug for my skin. I recently stopped using it because I was tired of feeling as though my skin will never be completely free and because of the constant shine and oil on my skin. Okay, enough of my ramblings. The true bottom line is, if you're looking for a quick fix, get this. It works very well at first and it heals past scars! However, if you're looking for something long term, avoid simply because it will lose its effectiveness over time. Thus, I just recently switched to Dan's regimen. Hopefully, the regimen will be like my secret weapon in this never-ending battle.... Like a holy sword of light or something.... Sorry... That last line was kinda random... - Sana

Pros:

Inexpensive
Fast, Free Shipping
Easy to cancel
Easy to use

Cons:

Dried Skin Out
Made Acne Worse
Product does not last entire month

I ordered this product with high hopes. I had previously tried Proactiv and it didn't really do much for me. It didn't make my acne better or worse, so I cancelled. I decided to try MaxClarity. It shipped very fast with standard shipping. Unfortunately it make my face break out badly. It also left extremely dry spots on my face. That was the worst of all. I used it for about 15 days before the foam wash ran out. It was supposed to last me 30 days. canceling was very easy and did not have to send items back. The customer care rep just credited $10 to my account so I wouldn't have to pay shipping fee to send items back to get my refund.

Pros:

It works!
Great value!
Money back guarantee!

Cons:

Absolutely none!

I'm 48 and my face has been breaking out since I was a teenager. I remember crying to my mom in my 20's about the condition of my skin and she told me "well, look at all the crap you put on it!" Did I listen to her? No, but she was right - now I know I was poisoning my skin. I remember slapping that gooey cover-up and powder on breakouts trying to hide them and all that accomplished was clogging my pores and making the situation worse. I remember slathering on Clearasil every night just to wake up to red, peeling and painful skin. Over the years I've tried so many things that only worked for about a week. Last year I tried Murad and that actually made my face breakout worse. It dried out my skin so much that it actually hurt to touch it. It looked so awful there were days that I wouldn't leave the house because of embarrassment. Then I found Carley's Clear & Smooth by accident while surfing eBay and read everything on their website - I was impressed. I figured I may as well try it - it just might work and if it doesn't they offer a money back guarantee - I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I've been using Carley's Clear & Smooth Acne Treatment along with their Natural Soap for almost 3 months now and boy have I gained - I feel like I hit the jackpot! My skin feels and looks absolutely awesome now, it's finally balanced and healthy! I've thrown away all my old makeup and only use mineral makeup now - no chemicals are going on my skin ever again. I rarely see a pimple anymore and if I do it's very small and my skin isn't dry or oily anymore and I can touch it without any pain - it's soft! Give this stuff a try and make sure to follow the directions. Use the treatment in the shower and be sure to lather up your washcloth and wash and rinse the treated areas well. I have dark green towels and have never had a problem with them getting stained. Now skedaddle on over to [link removed] - you might just hit the jackpot like I did ;-)

Pros:

Easily accessible (carried at a variety of locations)

Cons:

Overly irritating, left me with extremely dry skin and inflamed acne.

I've been trying to transition off ProActive for a few months now (though that system has actually worked very well for me). I thought I'd give this stuff a try considering all the rave reviews it seemed to be getting here and knowing that Clinique has a good reputation, but this line was just way too harsh. It definitely did not agree with my skin (sensitive, oily). While on this product my skin completely dried up and NOT in a good way. It left my face feeling tight, irritated, dry, inflamed and uncomfortable. I stuck with it thinking things may get better, but decided to cease use after my generally mild acne became increasingly worse (bordering on moderate). It also left patches of my skin darker than usual, which worried me. I only used these products for about 3 weeks. I probably should have stuck with them longer, but I could tell that they were not doing my skin any good. I'm someone who is all up for trying new things, but I sincerely wish I had not tried this line.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
